HP2 Patch Coming

Alright gang... there is a patch coming for HP2. It addresses some things but not others.

First off, encryption is being added to the multiplayer code that will add much needed security to machines hosting games. All of you who offer this from a machine will like/want this.

Second, the patch will enable force feedback on the controller interface for those of you (like me) who use FF wheels/controllers.

That's about it for now. I wish there was more I could add... As soon as it passes QA, I will try to come back with details on how to get it. Likely, it will be available at:
Need for Speed

Nice to see you again Caddy,.

sadly, I won't be getting NFS6 anytime in the near future.. perhaps in 12-18 months, when it's in the bargain bin, and I have a faster pC! I only just manage NFS5

Nice to see you again, Caddy.

Depending on what this patch does (ie, enabling things like more replay views/cameras which the user can switch between, and so on), I might purchase NFS:HP2..

I've been holding back on purchasing it, for a while..

But, I will admit to being surprised by the way the cars in the demo versions (International demo, and Australian demo) looked. A very dramatic improvement, from earlier NFS games. The track looked pretty neat too.

Cadillac: nice to see you here.
I hope you have your own patch factory... there's so much bleeds that the whole game is on blood. (yeah, that was a joke... a bad one though, but anyways...)

but nice to see that you are doing something...
Can I ask, if you are working at the Vancouver? I am VERY faithful fan of EA Canada Vancouver (or as it was known: Distinctive Software Inc.) and I have been playing those games since the Test Drive 1 was released. It would be nice to hear if there is any of those legends still working at EA Canada...

(I heard that Kris Hatlelid left after TNFS project and I never did found more than dead web pages of his company...) He is the one of those Legends who I am talking about.)

eyebrows

What'd be nice is adding cops and traffic to multiplayer games(even if only on lan games) Hint! Hint!

But getting force feedback to work would be kewl(not that my pedal prob is solved)

Sounds great Caddy, when you release it I will test the game. I bought it today and was surprised when my wheel had a FF without center-spring and more, it's impossible for me to play with a non-working wheel.

About wheel: I also got the Trustmaster F1 FF wheel today, it has super FF when playing NFSPU, too much infact, but I will finetune the settings during the evening

Hi Caddy,

I do hope that the patch will also address the issue of saving the controller settings for unrecognized controllers. I recall an e-mail message from you indicationg that it did the game didn't even recognize your Logitech Wheel. Can't they just incorporate the controller configuration code from PU including the deadband setting technique?

BTW, there are a lot of people on the EA HP2 forum that don't realize you are an EA employee. However, a certain Celtwolf set them straight.

Regards,

Dennis

I had the same problem with my Logitech wheel. It was easy to figure out what the problem was, though. HP2's controller configuration files (.ini format) have the wheel listed under its proper name of Logitech MOMO Force USB, but the drivers that came with the wheel installed it as Logitech MOMO Racing USB. So some simple editing of HP2's INI files fixed that problem. Just had to make sure it had the same name Windows recognized the wheel as...

Some other configurations I did as well so I could use split axis pedals. Unfortunately, my pedals seem completely digital. A tiny touch of the pedal and the car seemingly acts as if I depressed the pedal all the way. (I set the range to 255,0 as well, since they are separate axis pedals... Maybe I should have done it 0,255? More experimentation to come...)

The gamma correction sucks, quite frankly. But then again I figured out a way around that too. I set my desktop gamma higher in 3dfx tools and start up HP2, change the colors to 32 bit and back again (it basically flashes for a second and restarts the GUI, it seems) and magically I get the brighter gamma I had been using on my desktop.

A lot of bitchwork just for a couple somewhat minor things.

Let's see... bring back car showcases, get a quicker 3d engine (PU's looked just as good and ran a ton faster, IMO) and most of all fix the damn physics and we just might have a game worthy of the Need for Speed title.
