I was really anticipating this game, drooling over the screenies and previews. But I got the demo, and was utterly disgusted. Graphics look odd and cartoony, physics are wierd (too much friggen body roll and suvs handling better than an slk are just two complaints) The ability to hydroplane across huge bodies of water, fly through 2d pixelated trees, and take a 110 mph hit to the wall with barely a dent on the front bumper were the high points, and that's not saying much. The controls were twitchy and delayed on my steering wheel, and the cars felt really dull and boring in corners. The music is painful to listen to and the sounds of the engine are as generic as an '89 Honda Accord in white is. I'm really disappointed.

Dear Kitteh

Pls apologize if the game does not fulfill your requirements.

You still have a chance bringing it back from where you have it and get your money back or maybe one of the forum maybe wants it...

Hi Kitteh. Well U can't plz all the ppl all the time, but let's take your complaints one at a time:
Graphics: U need a fairly fast PC to get all the eye candy. What kind of rig R U playing the demo on?
Physics: Where do U have the slider for car handling set at?Try more arcade than sim. Also,if U R used to racing F1 or NSF exotics, remember that the cars in the WR demo are NOT racing cars.So they will not handle like racing cars.
For me the water and trees are part of the scenery;part of the eye candy. If U really are concerned about realism OFF road, then this is the wrong game for U.
Damage: As Tom said MB did not want their cars to be used as battering rams in demo derbys,so Synetic's hands were tied when it came to a lot of visible damage.
If your wheel's inputs are slow, try playing with the settings.0 deadzone is perfect on my MS SW wheel.
Don't like the music? Turn it off! I don't listen to music during racing, but I understand u can play UR own music,if I'm not mistaken.
Engine sounds: A matter of taste to be sure, but, after finding out how to increase the volume of my car's engine,I'm really enjoying the sounds, myself.

Hi Kitteh,

seems that you're the only one in this forum who really dislikes this game so much :D

The forum is actually not managed by any game producer, but from the enthusiast players...this says enough, I believe ;)
Graphics look odd and cartoony
I don't agree, please tell me wich other game is looking so much better than this one.
physics are wierd (too much friggen body roll and suvs handling better than an slk are just two complaints)
These are Mercedes, they must roll to seem real :) And the models in the demo aren't a good sample of the whole set, the best ones are in the game.
The ability to hydroplane across huge bodies of water, fly through 2d pixelated trees, and take a 110 mph hit to the wall with barely a dent on the front bumper were the high points, and that's not saying much.
These are points that are negatively mentioned also in other places of the forums, but I don't feel they're the most important things of a game! Are you out to race or to smash your car against objects?
The controls were twitchy and delayed on my steering wheel, and the cars felt really dull and boring in corners.
IMHO, the CARS are slow in corners, but they let you drift in a fantastic way, once you learn to avoid spinning. Try removing steer/brake aids and remove ASR and ABS, it will be a nice surprise ;) And try to drive respecting brake distances, cornering limits of huge limousines and such things....once again this is not like driving GT cars.
The music is painful to listen to and the sounds of the engine are as generic as an '89 Honda Accord in white is
I agree on some engine sounds, but I don't know about music, it's always off when I play ;)

about the trees...may be U* forgott how big and detailed the maps are...if U* would replace the 2D trees for 3D trees you would let your g-card burning out of your pc system...current hardware on free market isn't stiLL strong enough for sooo many 3D trees on such a huge map mon ;) (neVer just say it's cRap....U* have to find why it's cRap and tell solutions!!)

I have a Geforce 3 ti 500, AMD Athlon 2100+, 512 mgb of ram, all details turned up, full sim physics, no driving aids at all. The problem is that it's just not fun to drive the cars. There's something about them, none are as fun as driving the same damn car in Racer. Sorry if im the only one hating this game.

The graphics are great. In full sim mode, the physics are fine with me. Comparing the physics to GPL (Grand Prix Legends), I find 2 main differences:

1. In MBWR, brakes can be applied hard in mid-corner without the car plowing (understeer) off track. Maybe ABS on is helping here.

2. Trying to force understeer by pegging the wheel inwards doesn't work with MBWR, but does work with GPL (maybe too much), and in other sims (although not as controllable as it is in GPL). In MBWR, it's best to always counter-steer. In GPL, even after counter-steering has failed to recover from a spin, you can peg the wheel into the turn (away from the skid) and usually recover.

Power on drifting is a lot of fun in MBWR (and easier than in GPL).

No need to be sorry for that, if you don't like it just don't buy it, that's what the demo are made for ;)

I can understand that you may like other kinds of racing games, what I really don't understand is that you prefer Racer to MBWR... I uninstalled Racer after 2 hours of painful attempts to understand its physics. &(

Maybe just a matter of taste :)

Hey it's ok Kitteh.:Peace: U can't please everyone all the time. The game should run smooth as silk on your system. I'm not familiar with Racer. What kinds of cars are in that game? As I mentioned elsewhere, the cars in WR,and especially in the demo, are not race cars;not even close! ^_^ There are several really fast race cars, both older and newer in the full game, but it takes a while to get to race them.

Hi Kitteh,

Sorry to hear that you dont like it. Some of the points you mentioned bug me as well, but for me the positive parts of the game still win over the negative ones.

WoW JeffR the setupmaster of NFS Porsche also joined the WR club -^

Jeff, try disabling both ASR and ABS, you'll find a more "natural" behaviour. Brake distance will at the end become shorter, I believe that as a GPLer you should be able to control wheel lock better than any ABS. And ASR is IMHO reducing your exit speed, your acceleration and your drifting capability.

I'm having good results driving smoothly, approaching turns at a slower speed and using the gas throughout all the turn and its exit to balance the car, maybe with a good drift and a generous counter-steer. Sometimes you have to use the steering wheel a lot, but it seems pretty fast in reacting and correcting.

It seems that you can't approach at full speed and then "tailbrake" because of the differential settings of the car: it would simply snap and spin if you try to do what you do in GPL with a 45/60 diff setup, ideal for tailbraking at high speed.

I LOVE it  :HB:  -^

This game combines all my wishes about how a car-game must be

Graphics are stunning, wonderful lights, I haven't seen one single lag so far

Tracks are sooooo nice, ooooooo so nice they are :") :D
not mile-wide like in PU, just normal width, and very well buildt! Awesome!

Regarding bodyroll;
ROFL! Hey, these are Mercedes Benz ^_^
I must say I love it, it's so great feeling, the diesels are blasting :")

Take a G-wagen out on one of the offroad tracks then you feel it's not so fluffy after all, it beats ColinMcRae 2&3 a long way ;)

And, try the DTM cars a couple laps, or some of the AMG's, who said fluffy soft feeling? ;)

I just finished the mission where you have to race in a "coffin" 10 laps on the oval test track, I had over 400 kmh average, best lap was 30.48, total 5.24.53

Back on the fluffy topic; :D
When learning to drive these cars, it's just like being back in the 70's, it's just like driving on "snow with high friction"

I am not a Merce fan in real, it's not my kind of car, but I love to drive new cars.
This game has a enormous range of cars, it has small frontwheeldrives, slow and "soft" or fast and firm, try the slowest A-series at some of the tightest city-tracks, that's funfun.

Thank you TDK for making this top of the line racegame

Hmm, don't quite love it, but don't hate it either. Of course, i've only got the demo so....take my opinion with a grain of salt. If I could get it in a store in Mississauga I would (Before I get NFSU). So far the only probs I have are:
1: have to reset controller each time I start the game.
2: How the heck do you beat mission 4????
3: no online yet, I know, its coming.
4: not available in stores.

Hey Ayce,

1. get the demo patch (link is in the sticky thread above), that fixes the controller problem. Or just press F5 to quick switch controllers without going through the menu.
2. What was that, the SL vs. SLK one ? Usually you beat a mission by just driving faster :D You could also set the opponents strength to a very low fixed value.
3. We are waiting, and we hope its going to be good (where is the praying smilie)
4. Yeah thats a bummer, gogamer.com is the only source for North America. The peeps who ordered it from them said they were trouble free.

Good day Bruce;

From one Canuck to another, you can order the game off gogamer.com from California. They even offer to ship to Canada by mail, which is very rare from American orderhouses, which keeps shipping costs down. Took mine 9 days to arrive, I think Geezr got his in 6. Good luck

Unfortunatly, gogamer requires a credit card. I don't have one so I'm sol there. Had a card once but then ran in to some difficulty paying it off so I said " no more credit cards" Thanks for other info tho. I've done pretty good at missions 1 & 3 and getting close to getting mission 2. I did get the patch for the demo, but, silly me, forgot to install it &( !
Honestly didn't think to lower AI settings. The slk always gets by me in about 1/2 lap.=[ Not a bad price on gogamer though.

Yep, that's what I do too :o :sofa: I refuse to let them pass me :D

And, something very important is to use the right car, sometimes a diesel can be very neat, but I do prefer petrol when the curves are tight and the going gets tuff, the only important thing to remember is to choose a petrol-engine with enough torque, that way it's possible to race in the front without to much stress (I have a handful with this game, the AI can be really hard :") )

The clue is to drive the cars really to the limits, and to do that we have to know the cars and tracks well, the cars in MBWR can be setup BEFORE the curves, and the gaspedal fhas to be worked as a real gaspedal, it has to be worked all the time during curves, and full trottle during curves is NOT the way to go.

This game RULES! :HB: :HB: :HB:

Good evening Bruce;

My credit card charge came through Oct. 10, $38.89 US, $52.83 Can. The exchange rate is better today than it was Oct. 10 so the total Can.$ will be lower. The package came through without Canada customs charging me anything, though they are supposed to charge the Fed. and Prov. sales taxes. They don't always bother, I got lucky. You can figure 5 to 10 days to recieve it by mail, if their in stock. Good luck.

If you consider that stores like Future Shop charge $65 or even up to $80 for new games, the price is reasonable.

I still have to say since the death of NFS PU this is the best new driving game I have played, I love it but as you all know I may be a little more likely to like it due to the fact I am a [SS] Super Stocker and this game was built for the stock guy... well in my opinion anyway I only hope the few good suggestions about on-line race mode are at least tried to be met by TOM and the gang at TDK if this comes through I think we will have a new home with MBWR. as for me in on-line mode all I really miss is the horn and it would be great to have a loby similar to NFS 5 PU it has been the best on-line loby for any game to date in my humble opinion. anyway agian love this game and ty for keeping stock alive:p

Hi all!
Well, actually i`ve just started the game and raced the 3rd race in the career-mode.
I was very surprised about the game (in a positive way).
Good Grafics, cool locations, driving-metrics (is this word for real?), car-demage, the good old replay-function and especially i like the UFO on Nevada-Track which shows "Made in Germany"
:)
Also the variety of car-selection is amazing.
So i clicked the 1st radio-button in the poll.
BTW, maybe you shold rename it, cause i think "I`m disappointed"

Wello mate,

this is not a PC problem, but apparently you simply need to install a newer directX version. You have the required files (I think version 8.1) in your MBWR disc and it's self installing after the game, if you need a newer version. For the Demo, you can download the DirectX 9.0b from Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?productID=&freetext=directx&DisplayLang=en)

It's a pretty large file for the latest version 9.0b (167 Mbytes), but it's downloaded from the fast Microsoft website, and the install/download are managed in a way that the file is recovered if the connection is lost.

PS: until 2 weeks ago my PC was pretty much like yours and MBWR was running smoothly -^

EDIT: I saw now that you have already a 9.0b version of DirectX, you simply seem to miss some files :( run the program DXDIAG.EXE (start=>run=>DXDIAG) to check the problem and try to fix it
