well if EA keep delaying V8challenge, l cant help wonder if Codemasters will steal the show with there game TOCA RACE DRIVER (or V8supercar drive, name for the aussie version).
codemasters say this game will be released in 2002
l've posted the track list ages ago, but they have 38tracks...which include adelaide, bathurst, sandown, Phillip island and some more aussie tracks, and alot of international tracks.
they have alot of V8supercar teams,
from the pics l've seen they include Bigkev racing, Kmart racing, Pirtek racing, Tickfordracin, garryrogers racing and a stock SS holden and Ford XR8.
some pics.

the rest of the pics are very big, check out this site for more.

The HRT wont be on that game cause they signed up with EA for V8 Challenge (surprise surprise - there on the box)
And according to them the date will be 21-6-2002. Dont forget though for the guys like me who dont have a PS2 better have a damn good comp cause what were the specs again we were discussing on MSN??
Somethin like a 700 MHz only just managed to run it (but in more technical terms) or something like that.
Anyhow yes your right .. lets see.

yeh but remember V8challenge will need something around 800MHZ to run the game.......
l might have to adventuly buy a new PC to even play V8challenge, u cant exactly upgrade a Hewlett Packard computer.
(they even weld parts together to stop them from being changed)

l am watching the Adeliade Clipsal 500 at the moment.......
and they was showing a 3dveiw of a car going around the track.
the video used was from the TOCA game, did any1 see it?
the presenter said the game will be released in june.

Yep I saw it. But I think that the scenery might have been missign some parts (then again maybe not)
Just didnt look right thats all, still quite good.
And yes they did say June.

Ea Sports need to get their act together and get V8Challenge onto the shelves sooner as Codemasters have more to offer. Originally posted by Y2kGoofball

When they buy the rights to reproduce vehicles in their games that wouldn't mean exclusive rights I shouldn't think. Just enough to cover their arse from lawsuits.
I can't say for sure but that's the way I would interpret it.

good points rob and Matt( y2k).
while at the Codemasters forum, l read that V8challenge are having legal problems with AVESCO(dont ask me who they are).
l never got to read much, asl kept getting timed out <DOH>

Matthew : AVESCO are like the body corperate of the Shell V8 Supercars series.
I also read about that a few days ago at Gear Head forums (I think it was, or maybe CodeMasters) but I think it's just speculations.
Anybody and almost everybody are just starting rumours.
MattB
03-16-2002, 01:12 AM
thanks for clearing that up acca ;)
yes, there are a crapload of speculations going around at the moment about both games, which both seem to have alot going for them.
but if u compare them both, l think TOCA has the upperhand, they have 5different Touring car championships, crap load of cars and tracks and Codemasters have got some of the best racing physics.
But then again, if V8challenge can get released soon, it would have a Big advanatage over TOCA.

Exactly right Matthew. EA Sports need to pull the lead out or CodeMasters will be scoring the icing of the cake.... and not leaving much in crumbs for EA.
From what I've seen V8Challenge has the better textures. You can't top those track renditions -^ , but Codemasters are no strangers to creating very good looking games either.
Let's see, $70 for 8 excellent tracks or around $100 for a shitlaod of tracks ... including Phillip Island? Decisions decisions, decisions.
MattB
03-16-2002, 01:41 AM
Phillip island sounds pretty nice 2 me:D
V8challenge does look to have better textures, but the damage model for Codemasters looks very nice;)
either way acca, u got ur 1GHZ beast there, it dont matter what u purchase now:)

Finances play a big part in it for me, Matt. I will buy V8Chall but may have to wait a while (after Bathurst) for any other game(s).
Man, I need to save for the big 4 day Bathurst weekend. I haven't even started yet. :help:

finances play a part for me2......
but now if l buy stuff for my PC, its normally from the bargin bin, caus emy PC cant handle much more.
so its either a PS2 game, or barging bin;)

don't diss the bargain bin, theres heaps good stuff in there.
myer are doing really good deals for older games:
ea classics: $25
Driver: $20
links series (separate): $25
and plenty of others

just looking at some screenies from the link that matt gave and i saw this one
http://members.chello.nl/~m.drop/racedriver/screens/gscreen15.jpg
the apartments in the background are a block away from my school, but anyway, the fords looks taller, fatter and more unrealistic than the big kev commodore. and also while ive been browsing through the screenshots all ive seen are VT commos, they must have been working on this for a very long time or they are just lazy.
wheels look more realistic than v8 challenge but fords don't, also they dont have the utes

Firstly ... AVESCO = Australian Vee Eight Supercar Company (I think in short Australian V Eight Supercar Co
With the boxes Acca - I realise they had the Ozemail Falcon of Jones on a second box. I cant remember where I read about the licensing thing but I remember it said that HRT wont be featuring in the Codemasters game because EA had some sort of rights or something.
If I find it again i'll post it cause it was good reading.
Then again I dunno how they work it ...
Y2k
Ps - Has anyone seen pics of HRT on Codemasters version?? Cause I wanna see what it looks like if they have it.

03-16-2002, 02:56 AM
Dang, if they exclude the winning team. Just like Dick Johnson's game.
I forget where now, but I have seen the HRT Commodore of the Codemasters game. It was (at the time) the only picture of the game.

Here's what I found out while searching the official AVESCO V8 supercar website (www.v8supecar.com.au)
According to them these are the drivers featured in the game. I noticed Brad Jones is there but no HRT's of Skaife and Bright.
If you want to go to the webpage and double check it's at http://www.v8supercar.com.au/v8game/default.htm
Or go to www.v8supercar.com.au and click on "V8 Supercar Game" button on the left

I was searching for that site I mentioned which featured the HRT. Nite actually put me onto it. But that was when we first heard of the game so I dare say things have changed since then.
Notice there are 11 Fords and only 9 Holdens listed. You think an even ten of each would have been fairer.

note also that its based in the 2001 season: john bowe is no longer with cat racing, he is with ozemail

True, but we can fix that :D ...and the missing HRT cars. Providing it is for the PC and it is open source coding (editable) and not one big file like PU and some other games.
MattB
03-16-2002, 01:45 PM
11fords VS 9holdens........l'm guessing thats because they even it up,^_^
acca, the game is for PC, PS2 and XBOX.
how many Teams do V8challenge have?
Codemasters have quite alot, considering they also have different car-teams and tracks from all over the world.
(though it does seem they realli like AUS cars+tracks, there is so many:D )
BTW, has anyone played TOCA2? because in that game Paul radisich always seems to come near last:D

Acca - Yeah I believe there would be sites out there with HRT on it for the game, and yeah things probably did happen. Look at V8 Chall - what it's stpped now why? Oh thats right - problems with Avesco.
Matt - Toca 2??? Please explain?? Does it have V8 Supercars on it??? (notice the number of ???!!!)
And yes - if it is editable we can change textures easy!! Look at DJV8 - it's the game based on DJR but we managed the HRT on that!!
As for the cars ... well who knows! Yes an even 10 would have been better but we don't know how they go with licensing etc. They might have had troubles with teams individually or something.
Anyways I liked the clip they used for Clipsal 500 thingy. I have heard (In what? less then 24 hours) people talking about it saying that it's from PS2 etc etc. Don't take people long to make up stuff huh! Ten never said whether it was from PS2 or PC.

Hey all ...
just some more web surfin and I found this.
According to the Games Warehouse Aus V8 Chall only has 3 teams you can choose.
Cut and copy ...
THE TOP TEAMS
Race as, or against the Holden Racing Team, Castrol Perkins Racing, and Ozemail Racing.
the info I found is at http://www.gameswarehouse.com.au/longpage.asp?gameid=5496
Interesting huh ... 3 teams?

y2k, TOCA2 is getting old now, but Paul radisich is in the game because he used to drive in the english touring car championship(the game is on the english championship).
l just couldn't understand why he aways comes last in the game, he accutally did quite well over there.
l'm sure l've seen more than 3teams in the screenshots, but if its only 3 teams, that is just sad.

I could have saved you the surfin' had you checked the first page of V8SHAKES a week ago. :)
Checkout the first "Reviews" page of V8 SHAKES (http://v8shakes.racerplanet.com/)
It's only because Games Warehouse only knew of three teams or could only be bothered mentioning three, doesn't mean that there aren't any more. Weeks ago EA showed us no less than 8 teams.
HRT
CAT
OZEMAIL
BIG KEV
CASTROL
FORD RACING
K-MART
EA SPORTS

Out of following the Australia touring cars scene for a solid twenty years or more of my life I naturally have my heroes and the hate list. I disliked Allan Moffat, his yanky better than thou attitude use to shit us all . Dickhead Jonson was never a threat, John Bowe never came off as the cleanest driver on the circuit but I guess it's like Bowe by name Bowel by nature.
No guesses which make of car I follow :D But when it came to motorsports it was always never more than a "Boo" here and a "Hiss" there, in the traditional rivalry of the two big guns of the Australia's car industry.
However, Paul Radisich is my all time touring car enemy. I cannot stand the maggot, he spins cars out in almost every race and what makes it worse is that he always gets away with it.
Out of the whole season of the previous two years there was probably three races total that he never spun out another car.
Trust me, I have been watching him closely for a long time..... though my rifle scope.
That's not sportsmanship, he's only talent is how to cheat. Gawd dang, it's like using a hacked car in PU and getting WRs online.
The low life, scum-bucket, dog is lower than a maggot! I would pay to have a few minutes in the boxing ring with him..... kick boxing that is. No other diver has ever made me feel such hate.
Despite what folks might think of me and my out-spoken opinions on Aussie motorsports, I am not totally one eyed. Although I have always been a die-hard Holden fan, I have always wished Glen Seaton well. Sure he drives for Ford, but he is a sportsman, a true sportsman! There are times when he is too much of a gentleman to be a racecar driver and others take full advantage of him.
Anytime Holdens look like not winning I wish the victory to Glen Seaton. -^

l never realli thought of paul like that before, u got me thinking of a Adelaide 500 race a few yrs ago(maybe last yr? ) when Paul totally ****ed up his car drving look a hoon in a datsun;)
l just tried TOCA2 again, and around 60-70% of the time Paul Spins out in the first 2laps^_^
u say Glen seaton is a gentlemen, l also think Mark SKaife has a soft side when he races aswell;)

Yeah Matt, "the Rat" (heh Paul the Rat not you Matt) could be considered as reckless, but he knows exactly what his doing and has perfected it so well he makes it look like an accident.
If anyone has races video taped watch them and keep an eye on "the Rat". Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

u said

BIG KEV
CASTROL
FORD RACING

l still dont understand the licensing with games. Big Kev and K-mart racing are both in the TOCA game, but HRT will have nothing to do with any other game unless its made by EA.

Funny you should mention the Rat at Bathurst.
The morning of the race it was freezing with a wind that went straight through you. Back in the campsite I never noticed it because the vehicles etc, shelted us so I never took a jacket when I went to take some photos of the pre-race parade.
I stood next to three big guys who were all rugged up and even had plastic tarps wrapped around them like blankets. I was booing and hissing the Ford drivers as they passed by on the back of Mustangs, the 3 guys beside me were doing the same to the Holden drivers.
Then "the Rat" passed and I let loose with a million choice words.
It wasn't until later that the wind had died down and the 3 guys dropped their tarps to brave the cold.
I could have fallen over backwards to discover that they all wore "Paul Radish-itch" clothes, caps, t-shirts, jumpers, scarfs, everything!!
They were his biggest fans right there next to his biggest enemy, me. :help:
Yeah, the whole license issue is beyond me. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a case of Ford saying we won't be in it if the HRTs are. Just like how Ford were going to boycott Bathurst last year and just like Dickhead Johnson's crap game.
They have to be the most childish company Gawd ever shoveled shit into.

there probally just the crazy people up on the hill, the ones doing burnouts ;)

If you ever see the crazy folk up on the hill at night, you know they don't follow the race at all, just having a family re-union (day leave from the asylums). heh They are beyond crazy!! You've gotta see it for yourself to believe even half of it.
