Hi, 1st Post
Seems weird that after a hard hit if I pause the game and wait 'til the camera starts circling the car theres very obvious panel damage. If I continue and finish the race, when I watch the replay no damage shows up.
Anyone else notice this?
If I could find an official forum I would post this there.
A patch to enable damage in the replays would be the icing on the cake for a great game.

My I can answer this question :
The the tech records all statistic data of your race in any aspect to make the replay possible.
The damage would increase the demand of memory during the game a lot and we decided to have a fluent game instead recording the damage. As all cars are having damage the demand of memory is too high for the effect of seeing the damage during the replay compared with the fluid gameplay and very short loading times.
Pls bear in mind MBWR has to put this huge poligon rich landscapes plus all cars each made of minimum 17.000 poligons under control.
A price we had to pay for the landscape engine with 6 KM2 and up to 50 KM of track per landscape compared with a tube engine where you only have a few metres left and right before you touch a wallpaper.
Pls dont be disappointed about this but better the true answer than BS you...

Thanx Tom for your detailed reply. :)
Unfortunately, I still can't help but feel a little disappointed.
I play many racing simulations and have only found the 'complete package' in a couple of titles. These are the titles that I find myself playing and recommending to other people the most.
Visual damage is a very big part of the 'immersion' factor for me and many others. I definately would rather see that than UFO's, helicopters, blimps, parachutists and planes. As I believe that these would use more system resources than a few dents.
This is really my only critique of an otherwise excellent title. -^
Thanx again for your prompt and honest reply.

Most of us have issues with all the flying objects in the game. I don't know why they bothered putting so many in there,as those polygons could have been put to better use, like in TRAFFIC!! Every time I run a race in the CITY Scenario,I wonder just how much more immersive and fun It would be with a few cars, buses, etc trundling up and down those empty streets.=[

Hi DC_Geezr
The flying objects are not more than a few = 12 poligons...if. This does not take performance.
We are working on Traffic for WRII... We have a new way of modelling that allows a car with 12.000 poligons to look like 22.000 poligons.
This plus designing the landscapes smarter frees up capacity to do more out of less. This is already in process of development.
I promise we will not use so many flying objects again. :Peace:

Thx Tom,for the reply! I'm thrilled to hear that U guys are already hard @ work on WR11,and traffic will be a part of that! I'm glad to hear that the flying objects don't use much system resources, but sometimes they are a distraction, when in the middle of a race,U get buzzed by a UFO! ^_^
I've been having a ball in the missions and today,I had my first race in rain.I noticed that there are no rain drops hitting the windshield. Can this be added via a patch,or considered for WR11? Also,in rain,or fog,how come there are no working headlights? I always use them in bad weather in real life, and even when watching a replay,it would be easier to see your car among the others,if U could turn on the lights. And no I'm not always in the front! ^_^ Tom,if U are looking for any more suggestions,(horn!) just ask! Beep! Beep!

Hi DC_Geezr
Dirt and rain on the windshield need a second layer withz exactly the number of poligons than the original car with lets say 22.000 poligons. The GFX cards are not able to mangage this.
Thats why we invented the new modelling technology.
So, WRII will make the cars dirty.
About damage : Mercedes-Benz was very much hesitating to allow us damaging at all. We convinced them to allow this under limitations.

Ok that sounds more like it ;)
It's a shame really, as this one thing alone will severely reduce the amount of people who will buy WRII.
When will?
1. Vehicle manufacturers realise that it (visual damage)is not about just insanely smashing up their cars, but more a feeling of realism and immersion for the end user.
2. Game developers realise that this is the one of the major things that must be included/pushed for in the games they create and release for sale.
Thanx again for the info Tom -^
and good luck with your next release :)

I 'm not sure i understand why U think a lack of damage would turn away so many sales. For me,realism begins with the way the cars look, sound, and handle, and in WR this is done extremely well,imo.-^ The open road courses are very immersive and entertaining, and apart from the silly UFO's flying around, the entire game is a good simulation of real world driving,IMO,although the rain effects, and driving on dirt roads needs work.

Yeah but what is it that happens when you make a mistake, and roll off the side of these open road courses? Or, when an AI car slams into the side of your car....... Keep driving? Win the race?
That's not realistic. Imho ;)
I really think this is a great game. Dont get me wrong. They (the developers) have done much more than most have.
But, for the very little polishing that is needed, this could have been one of the best titles ever.
