Ok, running under WinXP with the wr_demo_fix222.

My controller is a split-axis modified T2, set up with a custom controller under WinXP game controller menu. WinXP sees the wheel as the Xaxis, with the Accelerator using the Yaxis, and the Brake recognized as the Throttle, and is fully calibrated. This works beautifully with GPL, and with NFS5.

WorldRacing sees the wheel fine, as well as the Accelerator. However the Brake, while listed correctly as Throttle, appears to be reversed, i.e., I have to hold down the brake when driving to allow the car to move. Quite annoying. I tried holding down the brake before hitting the controller configure key, but no joy.

This is pretty clearly a bug as far as I can see. The game really needs a screen showing the axis movement for each control axis.

Does anyone have a quick fix? I see a ctrlmappings.ini file, which entry belongs to the Brake? thx much !!

Have you tried to recalibrate the settings in the game ?

If I remember right I had a similar problem on first start that the brake was set to the wrong axis by default.

You can also try DXTweak from http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htm
to test and change the settings of your controller.
I used this fantastic utility to get my MS Sidewinder to be able to use split axis in PU some time ago.

yeah they didn't do a good job with the controller setup portion of the game. I have 2 contollers essentially, and I can't use more then one of them in game. Act Labs wheel and performance pedals. So much for me playing the demo! And I dunno if I'm gona bother with the game either if this isn't fixed. Wouldn't be a point to buy a game I can't enjoy correctly!

Hey rms,and Josh,Y not try PMing Tom From TDK? He's been very helpful with problems,so far.-^

I did, he said he was forwarding it to syntek.

Ok, on my controller issue. WinXP shows the Throttle (which is my brake pedal) to be fully 'on' when I'm not touching it, and it gets smaller as it is depressed. Is it possible somehow to reverse this behaviour in the WinXP controller setup area before the game sees it?

I'm thinking that GPL, for instance, senses the *direction* of controller value change the first time you select which control to use for e.g. Throttle, and thus can tell when you are pushing on the throttle vs letting it up.

I'm also thinking that WR, while also sensing value change in control selection, is simply making an assumption that decreasing Throttle controller values from DirectX implies actually decreasing Throttle. Simpler, for a simpler game, but also simple to fix if we complain.

Andreas@synetic.de says :

Can you please try combinded pedals? Normally there should be no problem with split axis if it works fine under game controller settings, but there might be the same problem as with the Sidewinder wheel. XP declares it as 3 axis Wheel under system settings, but only 2 axis can be used ...

Kind regards

You can perfectly fine use the MS Sidewinder wheel with split axis for the pedals, you just need to know how to set it up. And I mean it is not just done with putting the tick in the Sidewinder Controller Software.

If anybody is interested how to use split axis with the MS Wheel in XP for World Racing and NFS PU (and sure with others games as well) let me know.

I'd like to know as well, since split axis with my Logitech wheel is refusing to work.

If the fix is similar, please let me know.

<edit: problem fixed, reinstalled the Logitech software, and everything is fine now>

Sure chris,

I will make a short document later on with screenshots, that may be easier to understand than me writing it down from memory :)

EDIT: Your problem is fixed, even better :)

My wheel is hardware modified to split-axis, so combined axes are not an option.

I've tried tricking the XP controller calibrate routine by holding down the pedal before starting the calibration procedure, but it seemed to make no difference. I think the game needs to add a little code to its detection routine.

That and to be able to use multiple controllers.. that's my current hangup right now. ;)

BTW, the game runs perfectly at 1024x768, looks and sounds great. But game devs have a tendency to focus on the 1 or 2 console controllers and neglect the vast array of available PC control options.

Ya, Fez please post the guide, it may give me a clue on a fix for mine.

Sorry. I eat my words.

To get split axis working for WR with the MS Sidewinder is as easy as installing the Sidewinder Software (even if it warns you that it is only designed for Win9x) and selecting Seperate Axis.
It does not require any changes to the driver with DXTweak2.

Only in NFS PU it did not work with the default settings of the driver and you needed to make changes with DXTweak2.

As chris mentioned above, installing the device driver and not using the driver that comes with XP will usually give you split axis.

If you have a custom controller or 2 separate ones I have no idea how to get it to work for you. But you may want to try DXTweak2 from the above mentioned website to see if your controller setings look anything different from mine ? The numbers will be different but the overall setup should look the same especially the Min-Ctr-Max values.

I have no idea, maybe with 2 seperate controllers you are able to combine them or something ?

Here is the setup for WR which is also the default one.

And this is how I had to setup mine to work for PU.

Maybe that helps,
