Straight after work, I decided to take a drive to Piha, West Auckland. Lots of cool wet windy roads, great fun..

Anyway, last few weeks, and in particular, the past 4 days, has been awful weather, hail storms, winds of 115km/h in Auckland, and some small flooding in areas. So I thought I would be stupid and go along to one of the most rugged places, front on to the rough weather. It's been a bit patchy today. A couple of thunderstorms lasted 2 min, and it also hailed twice for a short period as well, also there was sun in between. Ah I hate this weather.

So here are the pics from just now.

This pic quality isnt too great. I was standing like 700metres away, and saw these big waves crashing into the rocks... I took this pic, but the wave crashes went twice this height! That's probably 10 metres high.. The wave swell is 2-3 metres...
Typical waves are around 1.5-2 metres often.. Regarded as THE best surf beach in NZ by many. ;)

PS. I was running down the beach trying to catch the sun and stuff... Totally exhausted myself.. not really that fit :(

Oh, that's it sorry.

If anyone wants any of the pics larger, just give a yell, and I can send through or upload pics at 1280x960 or 1600x1200 or whatever you want :)

Too bad the clouds in the distance came over quick and started raining again.
I was hoping to take some pics of the sky and darkness, and use the tripod for long exposure shots. Maybe another day.

thanks, and too bad you couldnt' feel the strong winds there!

The 2nd pic, is always a nice view from the road near the top of the Waitakere Ranges.. looks really fuzzy, as the wind was whipping in some sea spray and sand.

OK, FINALLY, for the first time in about 5 weeks, Auckland had a fine day! I'm not joking ,but I haven't seen a full day of sun in a longgggg time!

Anyway, Niki suggested we went to Piha, again.....

But, I did indeed get some cool new shots.
Most are the same, so won't include them, but also I've just been trying to do some cool fun things with the camera..

Here's a handful

Using Adobe Gamma corrector stuff, so I'm never sure what the true colour looks like! Through photoshop, the colour was darker ,and richer. But through IE6, it was a bit lighter, and in that previous pic, it's not just a black figure, but can see a bit of detail..

Anyway.

that outline picture is awesome, but even playing just with the contrast and brightness you can geta greatefect like this;

hehe nice work!

All the images, were just resized, and not changed with any colour or brightness, as then anyone else can edit them themselves for their true colours, as everyones monitors and printers do come out a bit different.

The Kodak print of the outline image, did come out quite vibrant, such as your first image. Not quite as great, but still quite amazing. I was afraid in printing, they would brighten up Niki, rather than keeping it a pretty solid black object.

Nice pics. REALLY makes me wish I wasn't landlocked in Utah.
