View Full Version : Too Much Heat? [SK]HOBBY 03-09-2002, 08:55 PM My cpu temp on my new 1800+ xp is running at about 135 what is too hot? My old cpu ran at about 105. although the xp is 3x faster. Im not overclocked and have a large cpu fan and two case fans. ViperInc 03-09-2002, 10:46 PM not the right section for a post but thats way too hot i got a 1700 and its @ about 47oC, which is about 114oF even though mb thermal diodes arnt that reliable, it seems way to much... try gettin a GlobalWin Fan like the WBK38 or any big copper or alimunium fan wihta 7200 rpm fan... also sum good thermal paste would help, nover use the shitty thermal pads (frag tape) that they include... hope this helps.... [SK]HOBBY 03-09-2002, 11:09 PM Thanx man seemed to hot to me too. Wazza 03-10-2002, 02:31 AM yes, around 105 would be good... being a faster chip, 115 should be ok.. but 135 does seem pretty high! 8)~ jtace 03-10-2002, 09:08 AM It's a bit on the warm side for sure. But I don't think it's extremely too hot. My Athon XP at 1.5 GHz runs about 45-50 C or so.. MATT 03-10-2002, 10:16 AM The later Athlons like the XP have a better core and should run a bit cooler than the original Thunderbird (like what mine is). All I can recommend is you replace your heatsink/fan assembly. I had the same problem with my Athlon 750 Thunderbird until I replaced the heatsink/fan assembly with a GlobalWIN CAK38 (pure copper heatsink... BIG too.. heavy. Delta 7000 fan. Fast, noisy and pumps air like freakin mad.) In these winter months, my CPU hasn't gone over 40 degrees Celsius (AMD's recommended limit is 60 degrees, a limit which I exceeded last summer with my original crappy aluminum Coolermaster heatsink and fan). At the moment, my PC has been up for a half hour and the CPU is running at 37 degrees Celsius (98 degrees F). That'll go up once I start playing my games and eat up all the CPU's power, but it won't go up too far.. heheh. My GlobalWIN cost me a good $35 USD. My original coolermaster was about $10. For the performance the GlobalWIN provides, that price isn't much at all compared to some other top performing heatsink/fan assemblies I've seen. It's quite a deal, in fact. It's one of the best performers too... that is if you don't mind the noise ;) People will think you must have one hell of a processor to require a fan that makes this sort of noise.. lol [SK]HOBBY 03-10-2002, 03:47 PM Thanx for all the replies fellas. Im running a 7500 RPM coolmaster that is suposed to be good to 2.2 ghz. The strange thing here is my case temp is around 98 deg. I took off the side panel and the both temps went down by 10. My case fans are slow and dont move much air so im thinking of upgrading them. They are afterall the fans that came with the case 2 years ago hehe. By the time im done this thing will be hovering in the middle of the living room lol.^_^ MATT 03-10-2002, 08:15 PM lol ^_^ |
