View Full Version : V8Challenge site for Racerplanet

Originally started by my good friend and co-track designer Nite, "V8 SHAKES" will soon be gracing the Racerplanet network. Nite is currently tied down with his employment so I, in the past three days, have been working long hours on the site from where he left off.
It found a new home here on the TotalNFS/Racerplanet network and I started uploading yesterday until I ran into some minor probs which have been worked out now.
"V8 SHAKES" is the location our mobile phones said while we were in the infeild "paddock" of the Bathurst circuit last October. Outside of the gates it read "Bathurst" again. A nice touch, thanks Telstra, Optus, whoever. -^
The site will include more than just the V8Challenge game related stuff such as other (V8) Holden & Ford screen savers, wallpapers, etc. I might even make some desktop themes.
Unlike E.A.Sports, I can confidently say it will be available to the public within a few days. Then this V8Challenge forum will have a site it can call "home".
Hope you guys make use of it, in time we will house edited cars, tracks, editing tools, etc.

I dont think there are any v8c websites around.
But I have post-poned crappy DJV8 skins for the moment so when they bring it out hopefully I can still get the programmer friend of mine to make a prog so we can edit the skins of the out-dated textures!!

Great stuff Acca.
This news item at High Gear:
http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~hg/forums/showthread.php?threadid=37603
And also here, down at the bottom, a decent hands-on review by a sim racer and moderator at High Gear who got the code - this is page 5 of a thread, check page 6 too:

Good on ya Dylan. -^
Pay special attention to the game physics in your observations. It may not be as obvious if you are only a spectator but if you do get to play it (try to hide your excitement by strapping it to your leg :D and ) see if the car fishtales and handbrakes etc, as would a real car. I hated the short HS handbrakes.
Also take note of the AI cars. Lain said they crash uncontrollable into the driver's car when going up mountain straight. Some competition from AI's is great but not if they are hap-hazzard.
Oh, and enjoy the nats too. :D Dust off the kodak and bring us home some snaps..... even try for a few screenshot of V8Chall. heh I'll post 'em (with credit to you) on the "V8SHAKES" site.
Thanks Dylan, :HB:

Matthew & Goofball : You're kidding? They have it listed on RacerPlanet already? Hmm.
Thanks for the kudos guys but I was waiting on feedback from Nite and the staff before releasing the URL. Maybe I never stressed that enough in the staff board.
Nite did reply and although he said from the start that he hadn't the time it was his design to start with. Well the index page was all he had then I made a new title image (& added the shakes on mouse-over script) and made the menus and other pages etc.
Well sadly, Nite does not want his name on it as he feels he will not be able to do anything more due to work commitments. :(
A few hours after uploading the lot (and before Nite replied) I had a vision of another design and I virtually haven't stopped.
Hopefully it should be all done today.
I need to know if most folks are using 800x600, 1024x768 or 1600x1200 screen resolutions as this new design depends heavily on that info.
Hopefully I'll be safe to just make 800x600 and 1024x768 versions with a resolution dectection script to redirect visitors.
Dang I'm a glutten for punishment.
wareznimph : Hmmm, I have ready that post before under another name. Even wrote the author an email. If you and he are one and the same, where's my bloody reply?? heh
I would be very interested in a vid of the game and some of those screenshots you speak of.... if not all of 'em. :D

Here it is (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~hg/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22267&perpage=25&pagenumber=5) posted under the name of "lain". Scroll to the second last post of that page.
BTW, the post under your name of "wareznimph" was made the day before the other post by "lain" going by the forum dates and time.
If he is not you, it might be good to know someone is copying your review word for word just to big note to others and he should be exposed for the fraud that he is.
If it is you in both accounts, I do appologise for mentioning it. I just found it odd to be copied word for word under two names.. :Peace:

that is my post
this guy is ripping my info
and one of the last posts he made was commenting on the phisics which has been changed
report this dickhead
AccadaccA
03-11-2002, 08:55 PM
Report him to who? He is a moderator there.
The best anyone (including yourself) can do is expose him by posting about it in that thread of his at High Gear with a link to your post at Codemasters.
Point out the dates of both posts then the people will see for themselves that lain is a liar.
You could even post there under another name and speak as though you are a third party to it. (i.e "lain ripped-off wareznimph's review" and not ""lain ripped-off my review")
Mind you it will most likely be deleted before too long but at least some folks there will know the truth.
If he is quick to delete your post the next thing to do is re-register under another name and PM or email other folks in that thread with the evidence.
Either way, he can't stop you from exposing him, just keep it on a mature level. No flaming or swearing.
I'll be keeping an eye on it and when I see you post there I will back you up.
Good luck.

Well I've just finished and uploaded the 1152x864 version of V8SHAKES.
For those who use screen resolutions of 1024x768 or 1152x864 should see the same thing with all of the frames aligned.
The initial index.html to the site is a resolutions redirect page which will automatically decide which version of the site you should be viewing. It is faster than shit out of a shovel so it won't damper load speeds.
I modified a script today to make a cool little car race game. I'll upload it possibly tomorrow. I also made 4 jigsaw puzzles from Holden & Ford desktop images.... more to come in a day or so. Plus I've have heaps of other games, Supercar Trivia Quiz's, etc. playable at the site.
BTW, I have more screenshots :D and even more coming very soon. Man this is gonna snowball into something bigger than I had planned.

Nah I have been doing everything evenly. Even made the jigsaw puzzles in turn: Holden, Ford, Holden, Ford.... all with the correct amount of pieces :D heh
The script I tweaked now has two of each (Holden & Ford) however it was originally a crab race game. So the same image is used for all four cars (but it's looking down on them so it doesn't really matter), the script paints them 4 different colours.

V8 SHAKES has just undergone a major update. Heaps more screenshots (24 of them are exclusive to V8 SHAKES) and everything fully compatible with either 1024x768 or 1152x864 resolutions.
DON'T FORGET TO REFRESH PAGES you have visited before as they will probably still be in your cache.
Oh, and the game is uploaded too :D Try it out. BTW, there is no favourtism, it's results are completely random.
Enjoy

l have to open another explorer and enter the site again.

Really? Dang!!
Hmmm, this is not good.
MattB
03-20-2002, 10:37 PM
the problem seems to be that the menu's have to load again on each page, and that takes alot of bandwidth.;)
AccadaccA
03-21-2002, 12:22 AM
No, being in frames the menu and title frames stay there and the main (contents) frame changes. I did it this way to cut down on loading times from one page to another.
I know it is good in IE and Opera (in Win 98 & XP), maybe Y2k isn't using IE (possibly Netscape) and has his screen resolutions set to something else.
The ad banner makes the errors but I have a cure for that which I tried on some pages and I will soon fix all the pages.
Y2k : what are your browser details?
If you are unsure check-out this page I put together http://v8shakes.racerplanet.com//test.html
It will help you right the wrongs.
Sorry for the inconvienience, hope to have you viewing it very soon.

03-21-2002, 12:27 AM
i have excactly the same problem as matt (y2k), it says:
width: 800
height: 600
colorDepth: 16
pixelDepth: undefined
AccadaccA
03-21-2002, 03:41 AM
Found the problem, my mistake sorry.
The page was saved as "800.HTML" in caps instead of "800.html"
But that won't help you guys with 800x600 resolutions as I haven't make that version yet.
By the time that happens you are better off changing resolutions.
Here's how (http://v8shakes.racerplanet.com//800/index.html)
AccadaccA
03-21-2002, 11:53 AM
I've done most of the 800x600 version (& uploaded it) but pages such as wallpapers, screensavers, and the ingame images are still to be done.
Working on it.
Please note the time of this post, yeah 5:50a.m.

^_^ lol ^_^
Surprised you haven't heard of him, he makes the checkered flags. heh j/k
That's what I get for working long hours. And because it is random it is hard to proof-read.
Thanks for pointing that out. -^
All fixed now.

hmmm, not sure if the site has this already.
but a ''release date'' section would be a real winner with the fans;)
u could always make some1 happpy, because there are so many release dates, u just put em all up
ie: 20march, 10april.......2059^_^ jk;)
those games are suprisinly fun when u got nothin else to do:)

Great to see you worked it out Acca.
Cause I'm using IE 6 and all the same info that Monaro gave, and I thought it was strange that ages ago when me and Matt B found the link on totalnfs or wherever, that the page loaded then all of a sudden you did work on it and i couldnt get into it.
And I've had dumb problems like that with my website (which dont visit cause i havent updated it for ages)

Matthew : I have several release dates in the Reviews default page. Been in there since day dot. Sorry, I guess I need to update that section with the widely known date of "2059 sometime". :D Just a rumor Matt, but it may be in the "summer" of 2059 sometime. Help spread the word ^_^
Y2k : Thanks for the compliment.
Yeah sorry I must have had caps lock on when I saved the 800x600 page and never realized.
Whenever there is a long time for a page to load at SHAKES it is most likely because it can't find the page. Reasons include having the page saved as "htm" instead of "html" or case sensitivity.
I use Dreamweaver 4 and PSP 4 for the whole site. In Dreamweaver if you do not specify "html" when saving the pages will be saved as "htm".

l'll realli appreciate it acca if u could add 2059 as a release date on ur page^_^
maybe the release date of a REAL LIFE holden and the game got confused for 2059.......
cause normally a new Holden in NZ is 57yrs later than in OZ^_^

cause normally a new Holden in NZ is 57yrs later than in OZ^_^ That's understandable as the road from NZ to Oz is one way and with all that traffic coming over it's hard to go against the flow. :D
Doh, we just lost our Kiwi stats on the SHAKES site. :( Sorry guy please come back. We're only joking 'round..... honest. 0=)
Actually something I never thought of, I hope Team Kiwi is in the game. I saw that car on the back of the tilt truck (after it's crash at Bathurst last year) man, what a mess. From the diff back was just completely flat People were joking about it looking like an Astra (no boot).
I went to the TAFE garage later that evening to see how they were going on it and to my surprise they were tapping it out mil by mil instead of cut 'n shut. By daylight it was like brand new again. Incredible panel beating by unpaid students. -^ -^ -^

l was gonna say that same thing, skaife hasn't won for me either, not very realistic considerin the Pace HRT have over the rest:D

Skaife wins more often than the others for me.
heh, so you like the comment for getting them all right.
Bigger screen resolutions have a bigger quiz (9 questions) where as 800x600 can only fit 5 answers in the results "alert" thingy.
I'm trying to get some race footage to work online so hopefully V8 SHAKES will soon have video clips too. I have highlights of many Bathurst races and individual supercars on different tracks plus the making of the Thunderstruck add with the gold ute.
I also have many other games I will add soon.

how do you get video onto your computer. do you just use a TV tuner card and plub it into a VCR?
AccadaccA
03-24-2002, 05:36 PM
No, unfortunately. We all said that we will buy the video of the hoons on the hill but then forgot to get it. :(
At the time we (Nite, jono & I) were at the video stand, it was under attack so we moved on, doing our lap around the track.
Definately this year!!!
Heh, I can still remember the look of terror in my brother's boss' eyes. Kieth is a crazy hoon himself but he was out of his league on the mountain. Poor bugger was camped the closest to the donut/demolition ring.

Although what I am trying to do is put some video clips in from the CD I bought at Bathurst.
