I'm a newbie to the online racing scene. I've got no problem beating the computer in races but online...I'll be brunt...I suck.

I realized quickly that I relied to heavily on the modified cars and can barely keep a stock car on the road...

I've been using an older Gravis Xterminator game pad to play. It has an analog thumb stick which is good for steering, but I am left with buttons to do the acceleration and braking...

I noticed that alot of other racers don't need to hit the brakes through turns (I get plenty of time to look at brake lights cause I'm never in the lead). When I let off the gas instead of braking, I loose control of the car and go straight for the outer wall.

Is this because I only have a button (on/off) to control the gas and I can't just ease of the throttle like I would in a real car?

I really don't want to buy a steering wheel and pedals so is there another way to get this kind of control and be competitive? I've tried tapping the button but that doesn't really do the trick.

Thanks,
~ Chris

A wheel with pedals will do the job, the reason why you dont see any brakelight is because they let of gas, then they floor it after enter the turn, that way they get grip and avoid understeer during the curve.
ON OFF controls cant be drives like that.
imagine real cars, no matter whnat kind; how will it be to control a engine with only off and on inputs?...
NFSPU is only a semi-sim racing game, but even here the cars are so powerful that you will gain if you can control the inputs

Use the real life rule; slowing into a curve will make you able to go faster exit that curve , in most cases...

Thanks...finally, I thought this forum was dead for a while.

I usually let off the gas just before the turn, but the car reacts like its on ice w/o just a little throttle...guess I'll just go buy a wheel & pedals.
