Hello, I picked up PU a few days ago and have been racing mainly IP games, but it seems like there is no catchup option in the menu. So when someone has a bad wreck they are pretty much out of the race. I looked through some of the files and found a couple of text files called fe.txt or something like that and another with a similar name. I saw what looked like a option to enable catchup called catchup logic and it was set to 0 so I set it to 1. I was wondering if this would work in multi or is it for singleplayer only or will it work at all. No one was around to test it with me when I found it and I am at work now, so I was just wondering if anyone here had any info on it.
catchup logic is probably something for the AI.
As for catchup in general: why? In real life, there is no such thing as catch up. You crash, you pay for it! It teaches you not to crash. It's what makes you a better driver. Catch-up is unfair, IMO. But you must also keep in mind that you won't necessarily be doomed to lose because of crashing either. This is racing, it's the most unpredictable sport out there. Chances are some others will crash as well, even a small possibility that EVERYONE will crash. This is also an unprofessional level of competition usually. The probability of mistakes are much higher than in the professional world. And also higher because it's a game, people will take risks they normally wouldn't in real life. So there's a better chance that others may crash as well. And if you're a good enough driver, maybe you can catch up on your own merit without the aid of the computer. :)
Just something to chew on, I suppose.

I want catchup mainly because this is a game, not real life. I host the game and have 3 or 4 friends connect to it, there are 1 or 2 that crash and spin out quite a bit more then the rest. Especially since we have to use the positional mode for some of the dial-up guys. I do not care if I break lap records or beat everyone by a quater of the track. I just want some fender rubbing competitive racing. Also, those that finish last all the time, end up not playing for long.
