NFS3 doesn't officially support the Banshee video cards, so you will have to open Notepad, then click on 'File' then 'Open' next, change the 'Files of type' to 'All files' and browse to your 'c:\electronic arts\nfs3\3dsetup' folder and open the '3ddata.dat' file.
Here you will need to place '//' in front of the 'CARD_3Dfx Banshee' line. Save and exit.
Finally, you will have to run the game from an edited shortcut. To do this you need to make sure you have a shortcut to NFS3 on your desktop (if not you need to make one by right clicking on the Start menu then open the Programs folder then the Electronic Arts folder and find the NFS3 shorcut there and drag it out on to the desktop) and then right click on it and go to the 'shortcut' tab and at the end of the 'target' line type:
<space>-d3d0 (that's a zero not an 'o')
Example: "C:\electronic arts\nfs3\nfs3.exe" -d3d0
The final step is to click on the Start menu, then programs, then Electronic Arts, then Need for Speed III, then on 3D Device Setup and make sure that you have selected 'Direct3D Device 1' from 3D Graphics Renderer box. (It may give you a warning that you have selected a card not supported by the game, but just ignore this) Once this has been done, run the game from the edited shortcut.
