NFS4 works perfectly fine under XP. You shouldn't need to do anything special unless you use a Voodoo card. If you have a Voodoo card, you should run the game in direct3d mode rather than Glide as Microsoft ripped support for Glide from XP. There ARE 3rd party drivers that re-enable Glide, but so far I havn't been able to get any of them to work properly with HS (but NFS2SE works great in Glide mode now, as does PU).

You may also try clicking on "Windows Update" and downloading some compatability patches, also try the usual driver updates for your video card and sound card.. and so on and so forth...

I might be able to help you better if you'd describe the problems you're experiencing in attempting to get HS to work. What happens? Error messages? What video card do you have? and so on...

I have an NVidia Riva TNT2 and I'm getting "invalid Win32 application" when I double click the NFS exe, no matter what compatibility mode (Win95/98/NT/2000) I choose to run NFSHS.

I have the latest drivers for both my sound card and video card and I have chosen Direct3D on the Direct3D Setup Dialog.

Apart from that, when I put the CD and the auto-run window pops up, if I choose play nothing happens!! Not even a message error.

Thanks in advance,

Regards

I've heard of this problem before and I have experienced before myself, but I don't have it now.... *shrug* Try going to the Windows update site and downloading the security and compatability updates they've got for XP. You may also want to try searching for the Microsoft Compatability Toolkit for XP. I don't need to use it, but it's possible it automatically applies a couple fixes when the game is started up (it has something called the Compat Admin, which lists a TON of games and also shows you what fixes should make it work. It's possible it recognizes the game and applies some of these fixes automatically. Although that would likely require playing around with the options of the program first....)

Anyway, that's all I can suggest. All I know is that I really didn't have to do anything special to get it to work *shrug*

Tried the MS Compatibility TK for XP and still can't make it run. Anyone has more ideas??

Thanks!

I recently reloaded NFS4 (last two weeks) on a different system/
Current system is :- AMD 2800+
512 MB RAM
NVIDIA FX5900 128Mb
XP PRO
The game loaded and ran but with slightly quirky graphics, but there is a fix called '3dsetupNFS4' which fixes the graphics. It now runs perfectly.
It is also a fix for WIN 2000. If you can't fid it send E.mail address and I will send it.

http://rp-design.totalnfs.net/ ---> select NFS4 and WinXP from side menu.

if you have earlier version than 4.5 of NFSHS, you might encounter "not a valid win32 application" -error. This happens 99% sure if you have no-cd crack for original game (without any patches that is.)

So, if you don't have original NFSHS disk, then my advices won't work. otherwise, it has worked everytime.

Next thing you might come across is "Less than 1 MB space" -error message, though you do have lot's of space available. Somewhere there is so called mercury patch for windows that adds needed compability information to windows compability list and that way fixes the error. Another way to fix the problem is, just by full filling the drive with some junk so that there's less than 2GB free space available.

EDIT: OOOPS! this is 3 years old thread! :D
