Here's the pics, the top one is in ZModeler, the bottom three are in game pics from the Racer car selection screen.
The car is being developed with 512x512 textures, which caused a problem in NFSHS. NFSHS automatically resizes 512x512 textures down to 256x256, which caused problems with the Datsun text on the side. So I decided to develop the car fully for Racer, then resize the textures to 256x256 and clean them up, and convert the car to NFSHS. This is probably what I will do from now on, Racer is just a much better platform than HS.
Because it is being developed for Racer, which shows much more detail than NFSHS, and handles higher poly cars better, it has a higher poly count than I would normally use. The wheels are about 500 polys each, and i'm going to make 3d brake discs. The body is still heavily based on my NFSHS 240Z, but i'm going to redo a few things like the front bumper with more polys.
I'm also using a seperate, 256x256 texture for the wheels. That will have to be changed for NFSHS obviously....
The textures are fairly close to finished, the normals need to be redone, and the wheels need some cleaning up. But it's getting closer to being finished.

Looks like you just took the picture in ur driveway or somthin, That was supposed to mean it looks perfect. Only thing i suggest is what you already said you were going to do, but you need to flip the poly's around the tires.. Sssss Wwwww Eeeee Eeeee Ttttt. show more of those mesh pics. they're cool. Good job, ur almost there.

Thanks guys! :D Actually, the wheel polys don't need flipping, it's a transparancy problem in Racer. But the same ugly effect either way. It's easy to fix though....

Nice, nice wheels: Racer certainly does them more justice than NFS probably would. -^

alright, i know stecki has an unbelievable celica for racer, and all these detailed cars for racer are bein done.. where exactly do you get it? is it like nfs, or like created by someone else for private use.
Do you have to buy it or somthin?
looks sweet.

Racer is a free game being developed by a Dutch programmer. The download size is only about 5mb, and includes a couple of cars and one track.
Right now, the cars and physics are the main attraction. There are no computer opponents, though multiplayer is supposedly supported, i've never tried it. The big news is that the latest version has replays, so that tells you about how many gee-wiz features it has, not many.
But, the physics are great, (GPL quality) the graphics are great, there is a Linux version, you can import tracks from SCGT and several other games, and the experiance and talent of the car building community is awesome, (not to say that the NFS community isn't) and best of all, it is free. The overall feeling of Racer is of a very well developed game, better than alot of commerically developed games, even if it is a bit lacking in gee-wiz features right now.
It is also about 90% customiseable, most everything is controlled by .ini files. For example, I was having problems with my MS FF joystick being way too sensitive, so I made a custom .ini file for my stick. You can even change how strong gravity is! It is really an editors dream.
Anyway, you can download Racer here: http://www.marketgraph.nl/gallery/racer/
Steki's webpage is here, his Mini and Celica are absolute must haves: http://www.stecki.racesim.net/

thanx Justin,
That's what racing games need is real as possible simulation driving. like i'm amazed at some of the new ps2/xbox games that are out, (e.g) Project Gotham Racing.. the preview on t.v. was showing a vette doing a donut with out a handbrake or anything.. looks like the physics are great.. But I'll always be a pc guy, i don't bother with ps2 or anything.
Thankx for the links.
Good luck in finishing ur datsun
are you using zmodeler?
What file format are you using, if i made a .fce file could i convert it to racer?
Thankyou again

Yes, i'm making the Datsun in ZModeler. Racer has it's own format, the .dof format, which ZModeler will export to. So converting a NFS car to Racer is just like converting a NFS car to MM2, 4x4Evo or any other game supported by ZM. You will have to have the latest version of ZM though, only the last couple of versions support Racer.
Racer supports several texture formats, I am using .tga, some people have used .bmp. It also supports multiple textures and textures larger than 256x256. Steki used a 1024 texture for the main body of the Celica, a 512 texture for the details, (headlights, taillights, etc) a 256 texture for the wheels, plus a couple of 128 textures for a couple of other parts. On the BRE, i'm using a 512 for the body and a 256 for the wheels.
There is also a seperate compressed and encripted car format that should prevent car thefts, for the obvious reason, Rudd isn't giving out the file specs, and Oleg isn't going to make an ZM import filter for it. This was just added to the latest version of Racer, it became obvious that the car thieves had discovered Racer cars when uncredited conversions of Steki's cars started showing up.

It was only a matter of time before something like that happened... Anyway, I haven't tried Racer out yet, but I will as soon as I have the space for it on my PC.
