Just got the march issue of Street Machine and theres a reveiw for V8 Challenge
AT LAST! In V8 Challenge, our beloved V8 supercars get a chance to strut there stuff! Better yet, they're doing it on familiar territory, even with big daddy Mount Panorama joining the Sandown, Queensland Raceway, Perth International, Melbourne Park and Kiwi Park as part of the star local lineup. EA have thrown in a V8 Ute racing mode so Holden SSs can take on XR8s 'round each track.
So how does it play? In a word: phenomenal. You'll need a decent games PC to get the most out of it but the tracks look smashing, the driver AI is spot on (scaring Skaifie into locking up sideways to avoid you is always cool) and it just feels right, conveying the speed and tension of the real thing.
Two slight problems arise, though. First, theres no replay option, which means not being able to relive that time you demolished all the field at the first corner. The secondis that your car takes a LOT of damage before being out of commission. If you drive properly, its no big drama.
These problems pale in comparison to how good V8 Challenge is. Finally Aussie racing fans have a game that we can all go nuts for. If your PC has enough grunt set aside some of your Bathurst budget and grab a copy
