So, I wonder, who here out of the F12002 GTR2002 mod racers is quickest around Sepang?

Just one restriction, leave the fuel load at 65 litres (the default, I think it is). Use the Ferrari 360GT, or Porsche GT3 RS.

I did a race at Sepang (F1 support Championship, race 2), and managed a tidy 2m:14.400, around the flowing Sepang circuit. Quite a nice track, that one, some nice turns.

Here are a couple of screenshots:

You can probably notice my driving style, from the pics.. The front wheels are always almost straight, and, the car is always with neutral attitude, in the corner.

Quote: "The car must go forward, not sideways"

Walter Rohrl, the former world rally champion would always advise this. His advice is good, too. He always looked much slower in the rallies that the always too far sideways Scandinavians, but, he was nearly always faster.

For the turn 1 and turn 2, the trick is to turn into the turn 1 late, to get a wider entry into the turn 2, directly after. You want to turn into turn 2 slower, and, try to get an earlier, straighter exit coming out of turn 2, so you can make good speed on the fairly fast straight section, before the sharp, uphill turn 3. On that straight, you should be seeing, around 225-230km/hr before braking, in the Ferrari 360 GT. The braking point is that little white line that goes across the track, before the sharp turn 3.

Also, on some of the steeper up-hill sections of the track, coming out of slower corners, if you feel that the car might be ready to break traction, then, upshift to the next gear, earlier. That will reduce power, somewhat. And the 360 GT has a fairly flat torque curve, so you can get away with this, easily, since it'll pull the next gear with not much trouble.

What I did do, is stiffen the anti-roll bars, however, in the car setup, and drop the ride height to 6.0cm front and rear. I didn't change anything else.

I can't post a replay of the 2m.14s.400 lap, however, since it was in the race, and I've got some other cars in the NGT class (BMW M3's, from the M3 Challenge mod). If I do post the replay, it might crash the game, when you try to load it.. If you want to install all the same M3's, though, it might work..

Did some laps with 65L gas and a setup I made 1 week ago, best of 10 laps today was 2.14.380
When looking at the lap in telemetry compared to the other laps, it's inconsistent, but all my laps are that way, at all tracks, hehe.

I race all the tracks one by one, doing 20-40 laps at each, just to get known with the courses, and the car, driving only the 360 Modena. Within some weeks more practicing I may feel steady enough to do some stat.

Regarding BMW M3 in GTR2002; is it cars from M3 mod that participate in your GTR-race? I have M3 mod, but don't hazzel to upload the replay for me, my pb is 2.12.200, no drifts :)

You have to edit the *.veh files, I think it is, the ones that define the car class.

I just grabbed a few M3's from the M3 Challenge mod, and, adjusted car classes, and, set the proper links to sound files, and any other stuff they require, and, they worked.

Ahh, OK, I may give it a try, thx for tip! -^

Just a warning, though, don't try to add too many M3 teams, or, you might end up with unpredictable results.. I'd advise, maybe 3 at most.

I might try some more laps of Sepang.

I'm driving that circuit now.. never done it before...

On my first lap, jut did a 2:19.xx

But, am I supposed to have the driving aids on or off?

I've only driven a bit of Monza, and Australain circuit.. maybe 5 laps...

in total, perhaps 15 laps on F1/GTR2002... so I really suck..
lol

I think perhaps you guys ARE running WITHOUT driving aids, coz I just did a 2:14.0 on a 2nd run, 3rd lap.. only had 5 or 6 laps now... still learning the track!

I'm not using any aids, I use clutch too.
Hehe, I tested the F1 Ferrari at SPA after you mentioned the time you did, what a blast! I was braking 2 seconds early all the time, so I gave up after 12 laps, could barely break 1.59 :o , no aids

I have been tempted to use some brake assistance, but choosed to do it the hard way, it feels so dang real  and it's a good way to get known with the balance of the car, hehe

Remember to set TyreWear and EngineFailure to NORMAL too, so you can post them into stats ;)

I assume I'm racing the correct car?!

I haven't changed settings either.. all setup is stock.

Wazza

ps. my car setup is all stock, didnt' touch anything.. hope im using the right car.. probably could do 2:08 or less, but can't be right against you pros!

argh, sorry, I'm using manual, and braking assist is off..
but I still got spin recovery, abs, some balance thing.. hehe

I'm certain that a faster than 2m:14s lap is possible.

I use for the GTR2002, in the Ferrari 360GT, all the driving aids turned off, except for clutch assistance. For the Ferrari 360 GT, that is realistic.

Chris, didn't Chey say in the other thread that she did a 2.06 after 9 laps

I did 4 laps with one of Doug's setups, but I take a looooooooooong time to learn a track. My best taking it easy and "feeling" my way around was a 2.30 :")

That's the little beauty, yes :)

Setups can be found in the ROOTFOLDER of setups (when you click on setup-button, you see folders named by tracks, and the track you are at is the active folder, but you can scroll up to the top of the list, the is a " . " , click on it, and you will find setups made by Doug Arnao, one of the suspension-guru's in SBDT.

I'm damned if I know how she did such a lap.. &(

chris

I can't understand, how she did such a fast lap..

In the Viper I managed 2:06.5, but, in a 360GT??

FIATLOVE
04-02-2003, 09:41 AM
She wrote it was done with default setup too, that's pretty stiff suspension, espescially in front, and no tweaked gears, let's hope she will let us watch a hotlap :) , that would be a great lesson.

I also think it was terrible fast, first-try in the 360 ever, but I'm not very surprised by that time with 360, they go that fast in the GT3 at stats too, and if looking at some of the records, you can see that the Ferrari has huge potentials at almost all tracks.

I'm still surprised by that time..

With the Viper, I can probably go quicker, if I can just try and make it get the power down a bit better.

Ideally, I'd use shorter gearing at Sepang, but, this makes wheelspin all too easy, especially at turn 2, but, using long gear ratios is not good, either, at least not in 1st or second, because the Viper seems to be dead at low engine speeds, but, then, at a certain engine speed, it wakes up, and promptly starts charging along.

Chris, I am not at all surprised by the time and, in fact, I expected something like that from Chey :) I don't know anyone anywhere with her talent -^ I am still in awe of what Chey in GPL

I love you Chey :D

Ah, she races in GPL? That explains everything.

Chris, what Chey has is natural talent, unlike us schmucks that must do with practice, practice, practice. Last I heard she had only played around with GPL a bit, but in that bit she made some impressive progress. Breaking the benchmark at Watkins Glen on her first day (I think) is unbelievable, and if I didn't know she had so much talent beforehand I would not have believed it until I saw it.

However you are right, I've seen a couple of the real aliens that I know from GPL fit right into GTR. I'm not one of them, I may have picked it up quicker than I would have if I hadn't played GPL, but while I was playing it I didn't even get my nGT rank below 100. I've seen others near my GPL rank at 50 or so in nGT GTR rank, and my GT GTR rank is 60-something I believe.

Haven't had too much time lately, I really wish they'd get some good multiplayer action working right. I tried that F1RST thing and it did not go well... if it weren't for that I would probably spend more time on it.

Well, I just did a 2:12.389 with the 360 GT, so, I did improve the times, a bit. Medium tyres, 65 litres fuel, and pretty much standard settings.

I just did about 4 or 5 more laps and I'm starting to remember the track. I did my usual gearing tweaks and softened the suspension a bit. My best lap was 2:14.005 with a wild 4 wheel drift into the straight behind the main stands. I figure a better entry there would have been worth a few tenths &(

Maybe a 2:12 is within range for me when I get a bit more confident with the track layout.

I'm quick, through the 1st sector, but, I sometimes mess up the 2nd, or, particularly, the 3rd sector.

Those sort of long slow turns, leading onto the straight just take a bit of practice.

I just did some more laps and my best was only 2:13.370, but I think that is as good as I can manage. I don't handle the tight twisty sections very well &(
