Holden's new heart beats
The first in a family of V6 engines which will spawn Holden's replacement for Commodore V6 went into production last week. GM's St. Catherines, Ontario plant in Canada produced out its first High Feature V6 (HFV6) engine, a 3.6-litre V6 producing 190kW of power and 343Nm of torque. The engine, which has a number of high-tech features, including variable vale timing on both the inlet and exhaust valves, is said to have better fuel economy and lower exhaust emissions than the engine it replaces.

This 3.6-litre version is headed for the 2004 Cadillac CTS large sedan while Australia's Commodore is expected to get a bigger capacity 3.8-litre version, to be built at Holden's $500million Fishermen's Bend engine plant. Engine performance looks promising for Holden, its current Buick 3.8-litre V6 produces 152kW / 302Nm, trailing Ford's BA six cylinder with 182kW / 380Nm. Production on Commodore HFV6 engines is scheduled to begin in October this year, the first batch headed for export markets. Commodore will get the new HFV6 with the VZ facelift in early 2004.

Bentley announces GT pricing
Been counting your dollars in anticipation of the arrival of Bentley's Continental GT? We can now reveal the official price, and it looks like you'll need a Mack truck to carry the 379,995 gold $1.00 coins needed to buy your spot in the queue. The all-wheel drive Continental GT is scheduled to start arriving Down Under in the fourth-quarter of 2003, powered by a 6.0-litre turbocharged W12 engine producing 411kW of power. Already, 100 Australians have financially indicated their desire for a Bentley GT coupe, which is equipped with formula one-style paddle-shift, six-speed gearbox and can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.8sec.

ANd good news:
Holden shows USA the way
Holden has been given the lead to develop a family of rear-drive cars for the USA based on its all-new VE Commodore platform due in 2006. A report in the April issue of Wheels magazine says that Pontiac and Chevrolet will be the primary GM beneficiaries of Holden's expertise, using the platform to produce large rear drive sedans like the Pontiac G6 (pictured) shown at this year's Detroit Motor Show. The plan calls for Holden to develop the basic dimensional package and major systems that will be common to all versions, including the Australian Commodore. For more on Holden's new global platform, pick up the April issue of Wheels at your newsagent.

The Bentley is a good deal, at the price, considering it's a Bentley (they were usually much more expensive), but, a Benz CL65 is still more powerful, and faster, heh.. ;)

YEah but the Bently is a W12 engine not a V12 and is far smaller then that engine. Ne way would the V10 Diesel have more torque then most cars doesn't it? It shopuld be a good engine and in the right car it will be.

The new engine should at least be more than the old Bentley Arnage..

The old Arnage was very bad for the environment, with bad emissions performance, and, massive fuel consumption.

Not only that, the Arnage, for such a big car, had no room in it. Apparently, the style the exterior first, then, realise, they didn't have enough room for the interior.. So, to make acceptable head room, they stuck the rear seats lower, making them less comfortable, and, promoting a "knees up" seating position. The wood and leather are all very well, but, it's not enough to disguise the fact that they got the basics wrong.

Same with the Seraph, as well.

The new Bentley does look good, I admit.

The one problem with W12 engines (and to an extent, other W engines) is you can't make them rev very high, since, some of the connecting rods are very long. So, when you look at the Quad-turbo W16 in the Bugatti Veyron, it revs to just 6000rpm. But, it makes up for that, with 1250Nm, and 1001hp, plus a 7 speed gearbox, with 4wd, so, as you'd expect, it has crushing acceleration.
