I've seen the RX-8, already. I like it. Mazda has a real winner on their hands, here. All the 4 seats seem usable, as well. The front ones seem spacious, and the rear ones seem spacious too.

And the Renesis engine is a ripper.

It looks a bit like a Chevy (cant remember which one though, give me time and it will come to me)

Bite your tongue boy, this car is far better than anything GM can come up with.

blackice111288: It's still called 13B, but, it's not the same as the old one. It's a totally different engine.

This one has 185kW from 1.3 litres and is normally aspirated. The old one, had 176kW, but, was sequential turbocharged. The new engine is much better.

I hear, that no more will turbocharging be used, but, rather, Mazda will increase the capacity of the engine, when more capacity is needed.. I've heard that a 25B might be on the horizon

Vette Boss: The RX-8 is not actually that fast, you know. I can name plenty of GM products will humble it, for cornering, and straighline performance. Unfortunately for GM North America, they are all built in Australia.

Another worry for Mazda is the new Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) Falcon GT. The top of the range one is just AUD$8000 more, and, brings a lot more car. For RX-8 money, Ford gives you something like an M5. The GT is especially refined, too.

That's not to say that the RX-8 is bad, but, the new Falcon GT is just brilliantly done.

I can think of several GM products not built in Australia that would more than humble a RX8. The Corvette will anytime, anywhere, on any track. A Camaro SS or Trans Am would anywhere but a tight or bumpy road course. A Cadillac CTS wouldn't be too far behind the RX8, and when the LS1 powered CTS comes out in a year or so, that'll be another GM product faster than the RX8. On the other side of the pond there's the old Opel Lotus Omega, definetly faster than a RX8, and the Speedster would also be faster on a tight enough course. (lack of power being the only thing keeping it from a victory elsewhere)

BTW, Vette Boss and Mickals were referring to styling, not performance. As for the Chevy that looks like the RX8, this years SS concept is probably what Mickals was talking about.

I'm thinking of stuff in the price range of the RX-8, though.. A Corvette, here, at least, works out to be $115,000, at least. And that's just a normal one. A more powerful version, (Z06?) seems to be even more expensive. Based on its pricing, here, where it goes for just on AUD$59,000, the RX-8 should be a real bargain in the US.

Holden Special Vehicles were investigating selling the Corvette here. Apparently they were going to do their own version of it, with their own suspension calibration, their own brakes, and a number of other changes.

A few of them were finished, but, it didn't seem to appear on the market. The Opel Speedster was another of those, that were to get HSV badges, but, it sadly never happened. The Speedster was a brilliant little thing.

One thing the RX-8 does have going for it is that unique rotary character, and the uniqueness, of knowing that you are driving a car powered by an engine configuration now only found in Mazda cars.

Benz experimented with it, in the 4x600cc C111 supercar; a sleek, 300km/hr, 400hp missile. But, the C111 remained as a concept, only. It was a damn good concept.

Just checked the price of the RX-8, in North America.. USD$25,700! Damn that's a sharp price, for such a car.

I imagine that would even undercut the similarly sharply priced Nissan 350Z.

For the price of the cheapest new Corvette, that I looked at, you could have 1 RX-8, and, another fairly decent car, too. Or two RX-8's for the price of one of the more expensive Corvette models.

I had a look at Viper prices, too.. And just about choked on what I was eating.. Very expensive, that Viper. At least the new one seems more refined, and worthy of the price.

Chris ur wrong wat about the CV8 Monaro? about the same privce but the Monaro is much better in all respects (size, driver feedback, exaust note, power, luxury). The Monaro is much more faster tho.

I do like the way it looks, but, you get to know a bit more about them, after having one for a while. They are okay, but, the look and interior is definately better than the drive.

It's got a bit of a rough edge to it. Maybe a new suspension, and better transmissions, and I think you'd probably transform the Monaro.

Michelin tyres seem to be pretty good on the Monaro CV8, better than the original Bridgestones. Quieter, but, with just as much grip.

I've seen like 3 of them this year. Nice car, I wouldn't like to have it, but don't mind it never the less.

the only thing i dont like about this car is that there is no turbos and the styling could have been way better. they shouldve let me design the exterior.:D

If they let you design it, wouldn't that make it uglier. :D ;) In my opinion, the RX-8 is a perfect successor to the RX-7, it shows off everything Mazda knows about new engine technology and chassis design, the whole bit. If I were asked to change something about the RX-8, I probably could not.
