This is the big project..

It's some 29km long, in total length, and what you see here is a tiny portion of the circuit... It's indeed an autobahn.. I'm cursing the fact that I decided to make it so long.. Populating it with scenery is a major task.
So far, I've not even started on doing the stuff on the outside of the track, and tunnels/bridges and so on.
I'm adding a variety of different trees to the centre section of the track.. And, because of the size, I must divide the track into smaller sections, so I can more easily and quickly edit it.
In total, already, there are 15,500 odd polygons.
But, I want the experience of driving on this, to be quite enjoyable, and nice to look at, too. The autobahn isn't totally straight, their are high speed sweeping corners in it as well.

Heh I just logged on, replied to your PM and came here. Wish I had copied what I said in that PM.
Looks great Chris -^
Just wondering are the trees and guard rails solid or can you drive thru them? I know you are using 3DSMax but I don't know that program very well and I'm wondering if it has poly flags like T3ED offered for NFS.
Keep us informed.

looks like a great start, cant wait to drive this high speed track ;) Imagine the speeds you could get :D
29km! thats gonna be one longish burst, reaching top speeds and maintaining them for a while

The length, is for Sauber C9's, I guess, so you can blast along at 395km/hr. :)
It will also make fuel strategies interesting too.. ;)

Ouch, shite yeah, I never thought about fuel strategies. It's a long walk back pushing the friggin' car if you run out mid way around.
I just hope it runs decent frame rates on my system (1Ghz, 384Mb SDRAM, Geforce 2 MX400) with a full grid.
Gawd Dang you've got a long stretch ahead of you, Chris.
The best of luck with it mate.

I think I may well have to get F1 2002, that is looking really good :) Keep up the good work :)

Yeah you should get into this game. Editing is far more rewarding with such a realistic physics engine. Everything is editable so no matter what you make you are sure to have it perform pretty damn close to the real thing.
Hope to see you in this scene soon.

I'll bet that is the reason nfs series dropped the point-to-point tracks of the first game, programmer's are such lazy people. Me included, i found i was scratching my head trying to 'fill' the track with detail (ones that break up the monotony of the track).

True.
But, their are ways it can be done, effectively.. Just look in NFS:PU, at tracks such as Normandie, for instance. Very good example.
And the tracks don't really have to be jammed full of detail, at every inch, but, just have decent used of textures..
Some rolling hills, with a decent sort of horizon texture, could be enough, as long as it is done okay, as well as the occasional bridge, and or tunnels, for that matter.
I've actually added all the trees to the centre part of the track, now, in the places where I wanted them to be.

ok.....im a bit confused here &(
is this going to be a 29km point to point track, or circuit?

You'll see me in the scene onceI can get hold of a copy of the game, can't afford to buy one at the moment, lost my job, got a realcar to keep running, so will need to sell some of my other games.
Still am really interested in getting invlovled in F1 2002 :)

Well I'm having problems with this track.
It's too hard to edit and add things to it. I'll have to try and make it shorter, or, abandon it.

Chris - I can tell you that there is hope. We have the Nordschliefe running in a pre-alpha form right now and it is a long ass track. One lap takes more than seven minutes and closer to eight. ;)
I wish I could be more helpful. But really, long circuits can be done - I am just not certain abut the magnitude that you are talking about. We have 15MB in MAS files right now and it will be getting bigger as we acquire more information. :)

It's just too hard to add things to it, like bridges, tunnels, and the like, because of the size of it.
But, just remember, I'm no Ian Bell, or Tantra... I wish I did have their talent, but, frankly, I don't.

To first Post: looks heaps good cant wait to see it when its finished
YEah it looks good and hope u can relese it even if it doesn't have much scenery cos I don't really care for it cos my comp is:
1.3 AMD Duron w/ GF2 MX400 like acca but I have 128 mb RAM which makes stuff worse. Still hope u finish it and I can download it!!
