Have you patched the game to version 3.5?

I'm assuming you are referring to Internet games on the EA servers rather than an IP race via the internet?

I will also assume you have already set-up an EA racing account and selected PU as one of the games you wish to play?

I will also assume you have a legal copy of PU and are not running something such as the no-cd hack?

The current version is 3.5. You can look at a file called "version.txt" in your PU game folder. It should say simply "3.5". Normally when you select the internet option on the multiplayer screen it will check for updates, and verify you have the latest version. If not, it will let you update (if the update server is up and working). When it does that, it will dump you back to desktop. Just wait. Mine took about 10 minutes to download the file (~1.6 meg) and update things. If you interupt this process, I'm not sure what happens. You may wish to use the search option on this forum and look for "3.5 update" because there have been many messages on problems with the update server.

If you have already done the above and been updated to 3.5, and are able to log onto the EA server server selection screen, and then select a server, but you get this message when trying to join a pit, take a look at the version listed next to the pit name. It is unfortunate, but some people enter the servers and then hack the game to show a different version to keep others from joining their pits...

Good luck. If the above does not cover things, post a more detailed version of the exact steps you have taken that resulted in that message.
