As stated a while back I only really wanted the GTR2002 mod simply for the reason the M3 mod requires it before installation.
Not only was this evident in the readme file but the install program asks for the "GTR2002config" file.

I ran the setup but it seem to have disappeared. I can't find any BMW M3s in either F1 2002 or GTR2002 season/vehicles folders.

The BMs don't show in either game/mod car menu either.
I'm sorry to have to ask, but does anyone know where I could download the M3 mod from.
It is supposed to be on the front page of RaceSimCentral but I have scanned that page from top to bottom and back again twice over.

Late edit:
Stop looking, I found another link. M3 Challenge (http://download.tdconline.dk/pub/boomtown/racesimcentral/M3_Challenge.exe)

I never noticed the need to have the GTR 2002 mod installed before installing the M3 mod. Mine installed no problems and didn't seem to do anything out of the ordinary

Not saying that it won't install without GTR2002 (I didn't try that), I'm just following the written instructions.

Dave : So when you run the set up and it asked for the "GTR2002config" did you just point it to the F1 2002 config? Interesting. Maybe that's the secret of getting the bloody thing working. I'll take another look for it. Maybe it's in Windows\Temp

Okay yet another go at installing the M3 mod and finally I now have it.... but of course there's a hitch.

At five or six locations there is a track section standing vertical. An actual piece of the tarmac is upright at a 90 degree angle.
Attached is a screenshot of the first one (in pit lane) others are scattered around the circuit.

Notice the half car too. Like the camera is not high enough or low enough. This is default for the M3 Challenge Mod, I haven't altered anything.
Also that radiator size thing doesn't work in M3 although it didn't overheat during that single lap I just completed so I hope it's not required later.

LOL Rob, I have had a similar problem on occasion - mainly at Albert Park :(

I thought it just a graphics glitch I had

I think that graphical glitch is apparent, on lower detail settings.

The M3's don't seem to overheat, however. And, yeah, that view problem is one of those annoying things.

I just drive on the in-car camera view, instead.

Thanks guys. -^-^

I'll fiddle with the video settlings and change camera view in M3.

Um... anything else I should find problems with? Mods? Tracks? Cars? heh

Well, I guess, it's not worth grizzling too much about the problems, since, they are developed for free.. :)

Most of the little troubles like the camera view glitches can be fixed, I think. I could have swore that their was a fix available for that.. I might go searching for it. I haven't actually downloaded it, but, I'm sure I saw it. :?

Now, something else you might notice is that the AI M3 drivers are prone to being a little bit silly.. So, sometimes, the field ends up in a big accident, because one of them tries an overly optimistic overtaking move, or spins out..

You'll like the starts in the M3. Nice and fun, rev it up, and let it rip.

What I've done is added some of the M3's into the GTR2002 mod. That makes things quite interesting, in the races. Especially on the longer races. (Since I usually do full length races).

The full length races are a lot more interesting, and the usual leading Listers of Jamie Campbell Walter and "Needellz" (aka Tiff Needell, of the famous Top Gear show) don't always end up finishing at the front.

I'm not "grizzling" and I do understand from the editor's view of doing it all for little gratitude. I wouldn't dream of going mad at them like the way I was attacked @ nfscheats when Nite & I released Bathurst for HS. You'd swear we had killed their children or something. Ungreatefull sods!!
As much of a poor quality editor that I am, I am still (in my heart) an editor. You defending the editors was noble, but you needn't remind me.

However you must admit it was a long drawn-out haul to finally get the M3 Challenge installed (following their instructions) which is all I wanted I from the start .... not GTR2002 although it's a big step up from the standard F1 2002.... just something to resemble V8 Supercars. The body shape of the M3's offered the closest alternative.

The last line of my previous post was not in haste. It was a touch of humor crossed with an earnest request to possibly avoid future problems. Basically asking if there are other mod installments any of you have had problems with that I should avoid. Like the first Phillip Island track that both Dave and I originally got. Hopefully we have steered others away from it (and all it's problems) and have pointed them to the "Phillip Island 1" download instead.

I ask because "as is" I don't care enough for the game (F1 2002) to waste to much time trying to figure it out for myself. I'd imagine you'd be the same with an Aussie V8 Supercar game ragardless of it's physics, etc. It's just not your cup of tea.

It is human nature that we only devote our full hearted efforts on thins we are interested in.

Oh, I'm not criticising at all. :) I do occasionally offer constructive criticism on things, but, I tend to limit what I say, or try to say it in the most neutral sort of way. I guess that's due to some people being unpredictable.. :(

I hope that I can teach you some of the tricks of editing, when I can. I might not have so much time, but, when I find useful tutorials, I send them. :)

I must admit, I probably got lucky with the M3 mod, I guess. I just installed the M3 mod, and it worked. But, I'll see if I can find the different camera files, for you..

It might be possible just to use the ones from GTR, perhaps.. (Unless all the cars use specific ones, but just hope that's not the case).

I remember the idiots from NFSc, that howled about that Bathurst track.. And they've hardly improved.. I used to chastise them for picking on the user Diablo_SV all the time.. But, eventually, I just got the sh!ts with them, and thought, bugger it, they can take there board and shove it up their you know what.. ;) I still check in on the GT-mod stuff, of course, but that's it.

I will also admit, that, although I like GTR2002, it's not my favourite though.. The modern FIA GT cars are a bit too heavy, and not quite quick enough for me.

That place is held by the old Group C missiles, that raised hell around the race tracks in the 1980s and the early 1990s. These were the ultimate sportscars to take to the race-track. No limitations (that I can think of), just, whatever you could do, to make it quick, was okay.

Also liked Le Mans from 1994 through to 1999, as well. When the Mclaren F1 GTR's, Porsche 911 GT1's, and the TWR-Joest Porsche prototypes were battling it out.. The Joests and the 911 GT1 looked radically different, the Joest being open topped, for starters, but, were powered by exactly identical engines, and, had identical performance. The Toyota GT-One's were amazing, too. (Very audacious and outrageous cars).

Probably, when the WSC mod for F12002 comes out, I'll download that, I guess, along with the VirtuaLM one.

Also loved the old cars from the 70's the raced at Le Mans. The sound of a Porsche 917's flat-12 on song makes me go weak at the knees. Very much the automotive equivalent of Andrea Bocelli, for sure. :)

I agree with you Chris. Those Group C cars are very cool !
In general, prototypes are my favorites. I have a pile of them that I have converted into F1 2002 and they are great fun. Virtually all of them are from mods that are in development but I just couldn't wait. In fact, my continuous talk of prototypes is one of the main reasons JeffH got inspired to start on the WSC mod. We are currently invisioning it as more of a historical prototypes set, much like how Group C races are run today. I think we will even have a few 917s in it. ;)
