Okay I know that my Hard Drive is a mess and space is limited. I tried to clean up as much as possible without losing anything of value but it wasn't enough, apparently.
Because of a history of anything that can possibly go wrong will, I made another installation of F1 2002 on my "D" partition and cleaned up (deleted) some screenshots and other files/programs I haven't used for months. I also cleared my Windows/Temp folder (on "C" drive).
The problem with the GTR2002 being an exe (Application) is that it goes to C:\Windows\Temp and I just haven't got the space for it that on drive. Oh and it runs invisibly in the background so you could be excused for clicking it several times thinking it's not working.
I now have 0.98Gb on my D partition after manually running WinRar to control where the Mod would be unpacked.
I start the setup proceedure and locate the "F1_2002.exe" and the "Config.ini" when instructed then click the "install" button.
I have tried it three times but it keeps saying that I am out of disk space...... even with 0.98GB
How much space does this Mod need? Christ, it's more demanding than the game itself.

I'm not sure what to suggest Rob. I have mine installed on my H drive which is 40GB so space has never been an issue for me.
Have you tried defragging? Maybe that was help make the space required available.

I'll give that a go thanks Dave. Even though defragging hasn't been my favourite past-time since hard drives exceeded 10GB.
:z
And to think, I used to nag at people for not defragging enough when I would go to their houses to help them with their PC probs.
Heaven help them if it was ever more than 9% fragmented.
I dread to think how bad mine currently is. Probably 99%.

Rob, a friend of mine had this issue. The problem is that GTR extracts itself to a temp folder on your root drive as well as to the location you specify, so you'll need a lot of free space on both partitions.
I just looked at the size of my temp folder (I had to reinstall GTR recently), and with the patch & some official add-on cars it's over 1GB
I have read on the SimBin forums where some folks' F12002 directory is in in excess of 6 or 7 GB with all the add-ons & mods.
I'd second a defrag as Dave suggested, and a disk cleanup - that's what it's callled in 98 anyway :) .

I have 2 installations of F1 2002 - one on my E drive (1.52 GB) and one on my H drive (2.44 GB) totally about 4 GB
That sure is a lot of disk real estate &(

At 10:00a.m defrag was at 82% so I pulled the plug on that idea. Just looking back at my last post I see it was around 4:00p.m when I started to defrag this partition.
Call me Mr Impateint, but I doubt if it would have been finished after 24 hours. It did resolve a problem though as I had errors which misread my HDD freespace and ScanDisk has now fixed.
So the problem lies with disc space and (hopefully) nothing more. Thanks everyone for your feedback, much appreciated. I think it's best that I just try putting the mod on my original install of the game on C drive and use my second install location (D drive) as a clean backup of the game in case anything goes wrong.
I also ran ScanDisk on C drive yesterday (prior to defragging D) and it has 969MB free. I can recover 3.49GB just by dumping my KaZaA shared folder on to CDs..... I might do that first :D
Probably another 20 hours delay (burning) well maybe not quite that much. I only have 4x write which runs at 2X using Easy CD.

Nothing will go wrong with the install, just so long as your original install is not modified. It should work quite fine, without any problems.

Hey Rob, I sure am glad that you didn't ring every time another 1% clicked over hehe ^_^
Get a decent defragger and you will find that defragging isn't such a chore after all ;)
I hope you enjoy the damn mod after all the hassles.

heh, I threatened to ring Dave every time the defrag increased by one percent. As soon as we hung-up it went from 71% defragged to 72%. So naturally I just had to phone Dave again to tell him the exciting news. :hat:
That's what friends are for, isn't it?
12 hours later and it only increased to 82% defragged. =[ That would have only been another 10 phone calls throughout the night or until Dave disconnected his phone.

Oh, that Windows defragmenting utility is slow.. But, in XP, it seems to have gained some speed, or maybe that is the fast HDD I have..
But it's still torturously slow.

Hey hey hey
I have the GTRacing 2002 mod running and it is absolutely professional from start to finish. My hat is off to the SBDT (SimBin Developement Team) crew. The cars, the menus, everything looks and feels much better than the original game.
Thanks yet again Dave for passing it on to me, it was worth all of the hassles and frustration. :hat:-^-^-^
For anyone else who may get it in the future just keep in mind that it doesn't automatically assume your F1_2002 game & controls setup. I had to make an embarrassing call to Dave over a minor issue that I simply overlooked in the control options. Dang rev limiter! It wouldn't allow me to open out the Viper simply because when I tried the original game it was already set to "Beginner" where the rev limiter is activated/deactivated automatically. The mod is not set for "Beginner" (but rather "Custom") therefore I could only travell at 87mph (I think) in any chosen gear.
All in all it is a great mod. Too bad we won't be hosting the download here as it is currently near impossible to get.
Thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated. -^-^
P.S. is it possible to change camera view? I can't see it in the control settings for keyboard. I am stuck in the cockpit. The clutch doesn't seem to do anything either. What am I doing wrong?

Rob, you can select the camera view in one of the Options screens. I use a special modded nose-cam view for GTR 2002 although I use cockpit view for the other mods :)
If you have any problems just give me a call :D
