So what's the deal with that ?

Is it actually neccesary to use the clutch while shifting, meaning....does the engine get wrecked (faster :D ) if one doesn't  Find this all somewhat confusing since all the wheel controllers i've seen so far only come with two pedals

I'm not blowing up much engine's b.t.w., nevertheless i'm very curious about it.

Anyone willing to share information on the subject ?

AFAIK, by lifting off the gas just before changing gear you won't blow yer engine..... if you get it wrong tho (the timing).... KaaaBOOM!!!!!

Only need clutch for start, and I'm still workin' hard to get a handle on that one :)))))))))))))

Hank has got it correct. I only use the clutch for starts and if I'm not in a Pro race, for spinning the tires to turn 180 degrees quickly. If you are in Int damage mode, and never lift while shifting, then you are sure to blow your engine. You also need to lift whenever you get airborne. If you are in Pro mode, you have to do it even better... in the league I am in, I was blowing engines often, until I just decided to go more conservative (probably too much so) because it's better to finish in 7th than to blow your engine while you're in 1st. Remember you have to be careful upshifting AND downshifting, as either will do damage.

Some people do drive with a clutch though. They have a 3 pedal setup like a real car would be and they use the clutch like you normally would in a real car. I posted a link to a video up here a while back of a guy driving with a clutch...here it is again:

You can also use the button clutch for starting off and popping it in gear to spin around like mike said, but thats the only thing you should use a button clutch for.

Suspected it to be like that as i blew up less engines while shifting 'of the throttle' allready, found that especially the Lotus needed that approach. Also tried the speedshifting as i'd seen on some of WC_outlaw's (ferrari) replays but it seems that that technique needs endless practice to it, i just gave that up for the time being as blowing up multiple engines (per lap) drove me nuts &(

Awesome video b.t.w., knew some were fanatic but seeing this guy shift while using the clutch is just priceless, amazing setup :)

Thanks for sharing guys -^

Best of regards :Peace:

he's an ex Formula-something driver, so he knows what he's doing.

I use it for braking if that counts. I don't use it during acceleration because of the precious loss of speed. At the start I just nail the gas, hope that I am going straight after 40-50 mph, let up on the gas real fast, then floor it and shift at around 70 mph. So far all my starts have been good except for one, but that wasn't too bad because I missed a 6 car wreck because I spun out.
