Just off an exhausting (but thoroughly rewarding) run at Ring....

Got a 8:25 in my new GPLEA banana-Lotus :)))))))))

Had a few errrors, but it felt mighty good.... had a run before that which was similar and blew my engine on the jump on the long straight at the end :((( ... so took it a bit easier on the next run...... phew!!!! whata rush!!!!! I feel like I've been dragged through them hedges :))))))))))))))))))

It sure takes a whack off yer GPLRank when you get a good'un at the Ring......

Six more lovely GPLEA cars to go.. reckon I can get'em all below 8:30, and maybe even go Neg at my first track..... THE Ring!!! yay

LOL

This Sim is too fantastic for words :)))))))))))

Happy racing all... just thought I'd share :))

Awesome stuff Hank -^

That must have put a big hole on your Rank. I'll check it out when I get home :)

I really starting to feel some pressure to do the Ring

Nice going Hank! I just realized I didn't have you on my buddy list... you're Hank Evans, right? At +19 or so? If so, just look up "who calls me buddy" there and you'll see me :)

At this rate you are going to overtake us... time to get to work Dave.

:HB:

What's with the "us" business Mysh ;)

I don't think the Hank will be -50 that quickly, but I can see him screaming past me while I am still stuck solid on -1.8

I want to get to -5 and probably won't even manage that :help:

Hehe... I am *really* not that good a driver, but I am determined and stubborn and have put in more time at Ring than all the other tracks (Papy and ChallengeRank) together..... in truth I SHOULD be negative at Ring already :)))))))))

I just finished watching PWintrip's 7:53 in the Cooper.. Awesome!!!

Has inspired me to get in the fat banana and get under 8:30 today :)))))) (once I've done my bit of sculpture grafting to keep the wolves from my door)

I still feel like I've been dragged thru them hedges backwards from that 8:25 run I got yesterday....... or maybe it was that new Irish Whisky I celebrated with last night :))))))))))))

I've been messing with setups(I can't help it) a lot lately ('specially on the ChallengeRank tracks) and have stumbled on some sweet feeling results. Haven't tried them all out at Ring yet, but I reckon they could get my Monster rank down a minute or so :))))))))

As for going negative.... I need MUCH MUCH more practice on all the other tracks ... So I'm not expecting any big leaps in the near future.... but to go Neg at Ring would be a dream come true for me :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Congrats Hank

I haven't been racing GPL or updating my rank since last December :") Time to return into it, I guess...You're leaving me behind -^ -^ -^

Now that I have two close competitors (You and Jeff) I have a good reason to improve ;)

Just started up again recently myself. Like others in this thread, mostly working on the ring and setup for the ring. Since I use joystick, was messing with steering ratio, but went back to 20:1 (linear, no hack), and set front toe out to -.300. Down to 8:27.624 now. Averaging around 8:30 now. The other change was to gear usage, I use first only to moderate speed in slow corners, and shift into 2nd before accelerating out of the corners, setting 1st and 2nd ratios accordingly (got this idea from a Lars Weibusch [another stick player] replay).

My problem track seems to be Rouen... stuck at just under 2:02. The section just after the hairpin seems to be the issue for me. I'm running steering ratio at 12:1 here, which seems to be low enough for the hairpin. Maybe you could send me a replay DC_Tox?

May go for a chassis time with the Lotus. Rouen is my relatively (to reference time) worse track, Monza the best (1:30.522 with just one session). Need to do Monaco, Spa, and Watkins Glen to finish Lotus chassis time.

I don't think damage model set to full realistic is required for GPL Rank.

Both jumps at the ring are done at full throttle, to avoid a nose first landing. I get more air (altitude) at FlugPlatz. I haven't tried timing throttle so it doesn't over-rev engine or nose plant. I don't think GPL models wheel inertia, but motocrossers control a bike's mid-air attitude with throttle and brake (throttle to pitch up, brake to pitch down). Look at a hot lap at FlugPlatz with TV1 or TV2 view, the cars get really good air there. You need to land flat or a bit tail first to keep from losing control.

I usually turn damage off for hot lapping, just to be able to return onto track without resetting and re-warming up tyres in case I crash.
But speed shift is never an option for me...I just don't like it.

It does model wheel inertia, you will notice it if you take off at Flugplatz and leave the gas while in the air. But you can time the throttle as well, 50% of the gas is enough to keep the nose up.

I could, but I'm not faster than you at Rouen, just a few fractions of a second...

I'll send the replay as soon as I'm home from this business trip ;)
