Recently changed to Win 2000. Getting error message "this program only works on Win 95/98" when installing. I have Porche unleashed and was able to get this game to work by renaming a single file. Is there a similar method that could help me install this game onto Win2000.
Comp settings: Win 2000, Geforce 2 64 MB, AMD Athlon 1.2Ghz, 524ram.
ANY HELP IS GOOD! Cheers:beer:
Getting NFS4 to work in Windows 2000 is somewhat of a long and not very easy process. ChrisX of NFS2000.de put up an english version of his famous tutorial. Click here (http://nfs2000.de/nfs4spt_art.php?cat=spt&art=win2keng)

Ohh... good luck with trying to install HS on Win 2K...
:)
I always heard there was a problem with 2K and PU, but I never had a problem, when I went from Win M.E to 2K... 8)~

:nono: Lot of shit to change in order to make this game work under win2000. The game is not that important to me to risk screwin up my comp. I was hoping there was a file that would do all this for me but apparently not. Thanx for the help anyways.

I was able to successfully get HS to work in Windows 2000.
and for those that think it'll screw your comp up to get HS to work, there's nothing to worry about.
in fact, I've had better luck getting HS to work in Win2k than I have PU .. and I think PU is featured in an MS Compatibility Update too.
but whatever
if you're in dire need of assistance with getting it to work, just drop me an e-mail and put in the subject "NFS4 in Win2k help" or else I'll regard it as junk mail.
PU is much easier to get to work in Windows 2000 than HS. The only problem PU has in Windows 2000 is with machines that have 256 MB of RAM or more.
Here's the fix:
Windows 2000 and XP both have problems with machines that have 256 MB of system RAM or more. When starting up the game, a memory leak develops and it starts filling your harddrive with useless info until there's no room left and you get a virtual memory error.
You can cure this by either turning down the pagefile/virtual memory or completely turning it off (with 256 MB of RAM and more, you probably could do without virtual memory anyway...)
To get to the pagefile settings, go to your control panel, then double click on the System icon. Now that you're in the System properties, click on the "Advanced" tab. You'll see three sections there labeled: "Performance," "User Profiles" and "Startup and Recovery." Each one has a "Settings" button. Click the "Settings" button for the "Performance" section (For Windows 2000, it's a button named "Performance Options" instead of "Settings")
Another window will pop up. It will have two Tabs: "Visual Effects" and "Advanced" (Windows 2000 doesn't have two tabs. It's only one window)
Click on the "Advanced" tab. (Windows 2000 users, ignore this)
Down at the bottom, there will be a section named "Virtual Memory." Click on the "Change" button. You can select "Custom size" and type in 128 MB minimum and 256 maximum (works for my machine) or you can just simply turn off the pagefile completely (which is how I have mine set right now.) It'll be a safer bet to click on "No Paging File" probably.
Note for Windows 2000 users: You cannot completely disable the page file using this method. You can still turn down the settings to 128 minimum and 256 maximum (or whatever you like... just don't put it higher than the default because that's when the memory leak starts.)
Click "OK" and "OK" and you'll be asked to restart. Do so, and once rebooted back into Windows, try the game again. It should work :)
