Well guys I sat down today to run some laps and decided to at least post up enough times at Find The Limit to get a real GT ranking. Okay, so I suck but I'm in there under Myshkin. I'll try for an nGT ranking next... I'm only running a few laps at each track, still trying to learn the ones I don't know at all, so don't be surprised when you see how bad some of my times are.
Anyway, for those of you that are submitting your lap times, what are your names so that I might add you to my buddy list? I have Agent already, but that's all I could find so far.
My self-esteem couldn't withstand the crushing effect of knowing how bad I suck at GTR 2002 so I am not submitting any times
I only drive a few track anyway - Albert Park, Monza, A1 Ring, Silverstone and Indy. I don't like most of the tracks and couldn't be bothered learning them.
I am spending more time on GPL these days and playing Neverwinter Nights again, so I don't get much time for GTR 2002 at present.

Hehehe Dave, I know you are better than me, after all I could not even beat 2:05 at Albert Park with a nGT car... and luckily I have no self-esteem to shatter ^_^ I found myself not really pushing it though because I had no reference point, and I haven't had a good experience yet online. So as far as hotlapping goes, I need to know just how badly I'm doing. Being an average of 7 seconds off the benchmark time at each track is... not very good :) but at least now I know where I stand.

It's a relief to see that I am not the only who struggle, always 5 sec behind the AI's when I do a new track :o with N-GT or GT, in the Alfa it's a bit easier for me, the 147 feels almost like my real car in handling ;) , so I'm only 2-3 sec behind the AI's with 147.
I drive without auto-seq clutch and none other helpers off course, bettter to learn this the hard way from the beginning, I wish I had a 3-set pedals tho, the clutchbutton don't excist in my "automatic" drive-reactions library, LOL, causing some grand blunders pretty often
Regarding times, a real-life 147 pro said that only the very best racers are doing sub 1.58 at Zandword, he said the track is veryvery good, but some more work needs to be done with the car,in real life i.e it's much more nervous when hard braking, tail is more agressive (the tail at the excisting feels like my Bravo, very easy controllable compared to 147 when it slides, 147 needs a more active skilled driver). And the real 147 is more understeered (I hope they fix that veery soon) hehehehehe, muaaahhaaaahahahahahaha
I love the hard new tracks, so challenging to learn their personalities, the only dull track I've tested so far is Surfers Paradise, and I must admit that the ovals make no sense to me, I'm no racetrack-horse 8)~

Practicing Monza in 147 Alfa, a long way to go, doing steady 2.10.xx, and when looking in telemetry I'm lightyears from finding the line.
I guess it's so poor that I don't even will try to stat it (I looked after the stats for 147 mod, but couldn't find them at the moment, beside I have myself to battle with, hehe)
Good news for me is that I begin to learn how the setup works (I may wrong, hehe)
So if any of you guys are playing 147-mod and have done Monza, what times are you doing?
AND, check if the lap is validated by the Telemetry-check plz ;)
The last turn is tricky for me, no matter what I try I can't manage to go faster than 199-201 over the line, but so far I try to figure out other curves in Telemetry, eating the cake last :D (gives me a self-conf-kick the day I make it)
I feel this track to be a good practice for me, it has 4 straights with high-speed (practicing braking) also it has alot of midspeed curves wich I feel is good for learning to go smooth with the Alfa, and of course, it has the painful S in the 1st curve for lowspeed practice
Please gimme respons and tell me you go faster than me, I need a kick behind :)

Mads, I'll take the Alfa out to Monza for a spin and let you know how it goes - probably very badly

Mads, I just did about 5 laps at Monza using the default setup and managed a best lap of 2:10.354. I would say that you could deduct 5 or 6 seconds from that to get a sense of what a fairly fast time might be.
I think I need to track down some setups for the Alfas

Great Dave,
we are pretty close then, earlier today I did 5 laps and managed to cut off 1 more second, but only for one of the laps. I did a 2.09.3x when testing a new setup, with less wings and camber than before.
And my rideheight is default, I loose a second when I set to 10-12cm (F/R).
After eased up on the wings and camber, I managed to get better topspeeds, 203 over the line and still the Parabolica can be done much faster exit.
I found that it may helps to adjust the Digital rate, deadzone and sensitivity to make the brakepedal work smoother, the funny thing is that I'm doing my braking better with the GT3 and Modena 360 than I manage in the Alfa &(
Must work on that tonite :)
5-6 seconds to cut seems reasonable, I'll come back later and report tonites (eventually) achievements
:p
Take care,
Mads

I made some 2.09.xx, tried alot different setup, the car feels ok now, it's all about my consitency to cut more seconds.
Practiced braking, and wow there is alot to catch up there for me.
Since I found it difficult to improve times by adjusting setup, I tried out my own gear-ratios for the last setups, and that may be a good solution, I raised topspeed at all the straighs and hispeedturns, no problem to reach 200km/h + (I attach a link so you can download my setups, numbered from 001-007, 007 is the latest and "fastest" setups so far)
And the full rpl, I think it's 3x 2.09.xx laps, only 2 of them was aprooved by Telemetry (I use GTR2002 Telemetry)
By comparing the best laps I made tonite against the 2.10.490 reference lap from last nite, I look at the TIMESCALE to find what fails I did at the new PB (picture below) Just a quick look and you see that I missed about 0.4 second when braking into Variante della Roggia, and the last half lap I raced much better at the new PB

Mads, I just "created" my own setup and tried a few laps. I think I made it too stiff but still managed a 2.08.846. However, it was a ragged lap and there is a lot of scope for improvement. My a softer setup and a clean run I figure a mid 7 is possible for me. I expect the WR is probably a 2.03 or 2.04 =[
Dave
Update: I just softened the settings a bit, tweaked the 3rd and 4th gear ratios and changed the steering ratio to 20. I took the little beast out for a few laps and did a low 2.07 on the 3rd lap followed by a 2.06.824. It was a very ragged lap as I was pushing a bit too hard. I think I can match it with a clean lap after a bit more practice.

Wow, really nice Dave, I was drinking abit while testin last nite, so I have to blame alco (jk).
I think I have to try your tips regarding steerlock, and may try out softer settings, but I really think my prob is the braking wich again influence the curves.
It's a good illustration when lokin at the telemetry-pick I attached, after loosing time caused the poor braking I pushed harder into the followin curves, if I had loosen up just a tiny bit when entering those curves, I would manage to go much faster average. Great tool this telemetry :)
I think the second I gained last night was better braking and entryspeeds, from now I have to look at speed and lines in curves.
Do you use hard or soft tyres? (my practices have 20 deg cels), so I use hard..
Mads
Edited; 2.08.90 after 6 laps wit softer setup, to tired to continue now, have raced all nite PU &(
Thx for tips, much smoother now, besides, I did test with soft tyres and default tirepressure

Hehe Mads, it really is hard to get the braking point right :)
I use the soft tyres and default pressure too -^
I have been playing GPL and Neverwinter Nights since I did my last laps so I haven't anything new to report on that score.

Mads I have been tweaking a couple of settings in my setup and doing fairly consistent 2.07s with it.
I have attached it just in case you want to test it out.
Dave
PS: I just finished a 5 lap race against the AI and managed 2 low 2.06 laps. The fastest one was a 2.06.255, but the previous lap of 2.06.265 was cleaner and felt better.

Thank's mucho Dave, very nice of you!!! I'll test it right away, report within 1 hour :D
Mads
EDIT:
Report; did 10 laps, steady low 2.09.xx but your setup gives much more oversteer when entering corners than mine, so I need to convert my style abit, and Dave, the gear-ratios was just wonderful, woohoo :)
I use to adjust the springs either equal or stiffer in front, I may tweak your setup a bit so it may fit me better. But the oversteer effect is maybe very effective if I can get used to it.
When looking at telemetry I see that 1 or 2 of the laps I just did could have been done 2-2.5 sec faster, because of the new handling I did flaws at all the laps :p , still I was able to touch my PB at every lap :) THANK'S Dave!!!
10 or 20 new laps now, practice practice

Mads, from GPL I have developed a preference for slight oversteer as I find it easier to control then understeer.
I hope you have some luck improving your times.

:) IEEEAAAAHAAAAWWWWW! 10 new laps new PB at 10th lap, 2.07.389, and also 6 of the other laps was better than y-days 2.08.9xx , I'm doin steady 2.07's - 2.08's now :)
I reduced rearsprings to 90, and softened the damping 1 click down for all 4 settings, may adjust them up and only leave the springs 90-90.
