So, if you haven't seen it already, the SBDT development team have readied another car, the Rothmans Porsche 956C, like the ones driven by Derek Bell and Jack Ickx, in 1982.

These cars were clocked at over 246mph on the Mulsanne straight at Le Mans in 1982, quite incredible.

In 1982, the car finished in these places:
1. Rothmans Porsche 956C - Jack Ickx (USA)/Derek Bell (GB)
2. Rothmans Porsche 956C - Jochen Mass(DEU)/Vern Schuppan (AUS)
3. Rothmans Porsche 956C - Al Holbert/Hurley Haywood

The car has these technical specifications:

Engine: Flat-6, DOHC, 24 valve (air-cooled cylinders, water cooled heads)
Capacity: 2,650cm³
Power: 620hp@8200rpm
Weight: 820kg
Top Speed: in excess of 246mph.

Here is the original technical data, from Porsche:

Engine: Six-cylinder four-valve turbo engine (Boxer), air-cooled cylinder, water-cooled cylinder heads, four overhead camshafts with timing gear

Output: 620 HP at 8200 RPM

Displacement: 2649 cc

Fuel system: Fully electronic optimum performance Bosch fuel injection system, 99 litre safety fuel tank

Driveline: Five-speed gearbox, single-plate dry clutch

Chassis: Aluminium monocoque with plastic body, independent wheel suspension, coil springs with two brake callipers per wheel, internally ventilated dual-circuit disc brakes

Dimensions
and weight: Wheel base 2650 mm, length 4800 mm, width 2000 mm, weight 820 kg

Performance: Top speed in excess of 350 km/h

Chassis No. of
the museum car: 956 002

And here is the real one: (large image)

Compare them, and, note how flawlessly they compare!

Also, once again, we should note that this appears to be the NURBS model, not the end product polygon model (note how you can not see any sharp edges).

And, I think they should have left the word RACING on the car, instead of Rothmans, and, they should have blanked out the Rothmans logos.

It's politically incorrect (and just plain wrong) these days to be promoting tobacco companies.
