Seasons Greetings to all.

I have a purchased copy of PU - not a copy.I have not made any changes to the game files.
I am running it on XP.
I can start the program, do single races ok, but when i try to connect to an online pit or when i make an on line pit i am suddenly sitting on the desktop.
No errors, no nothing. The program just "turns off".
I can log in to the PU servers, enter a pit, but when the race loads, the game crashes.

I have checked everything I can think of. All my drivers are up to date.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks

Well I'd love to help you out, but it seems kinda pointless, because on January 8th EA is taking the servers offline. :( http://ncops.racerplanet.com is gona create an alternative though with an IP system. It's coming along quite well too!

I just thought of something that could be a problem. Ok, when you log online to EA racing, you generally have the auto-updater grab the latest version of the game for you. In your case, VRECrash, it seems as though this feature is not working for you, almost as though it has already been disabled. Now, if I am not mistaken, in order to play an IP game, as will be done with NCOPS, all players must use the same version of the game. If certain people cannot update with the EA servers down, then there will also be a large number of people who cannot race via IP either. Does this seem like a possible issue? =[

As a Matter of fact, the auto-updater HAS been disabled: a few days ago, Strobe reported on NFScheats that the automatic NFS PU updater is no longer in function, see here (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~nfscheats/ubb/non-cgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000326) for the full story. :(

Hey thanks for the replies all but i dont think that is the problem. I reinstalled before the patch server went down.
I logged in it checked for patches, it updated, and my version.txt file shows its 3.5

It is not the same kind of error that i would get if i had the wrong version. We used to change the version text for club races when we used the servers. If you tried to connect to a pit and didnt have the changed version.txt file you would get a message that you were using the wrong version.

I just crash to the desktop.. I havnt tried it in a straight IP race yet but will soon

You have not deleted gimme.dll to get NFS PU running on XP?

If gimme.dll is missing NFS PU will crash right after a multiplayer race is started.

If this is the case you will also need it after Jaunary 8, since the file is also needed for Peer to Peer IP.

It's WORKING.
Finally... After the 4th uninstall and reinstall it works.
This time i installed to C drive. I normally reserve c drive for my os only. Anyway it works fine... go figure.
Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Hey Crash, long time no see. How is everything up north?

I went to a christmas party a few weeks ago, we all brought our computers and set up an network to play NFS (some were playing Quake 3). We were using the IPX protocals.

This one guy had XP on his machine. When he tried to log into the game, it crashed (no pun on your name - heheh) everybodys game. We never got it working on an XP box.

I will relay the info about loading it onto C:\ with no subdirectorys. But if you get anymore info on this please pass it along or post.

Thanks, Racer_X :D

Hey Racer... Things are cool up here... PUN intended. LOL
Unless you live where spdfrk lives then they are downright cold.

I didn't install the game into c without sub directories i just let the game install to its default.

What are you racing these days? We still have a core group from PU that meets on Game Voice or Yahoo chat and we race daily.
