Great to hear Hank :)
I'm just chipping away at my poor old MoG Rank :( I managed to knock 22 seconds of my Rouen times in 2 days ;)
Dave
Great going, Dave :))
I'm trying to reduce all tracks and cars evenly... I think in the long run that that will make me an overall better driver..... I reckon I could go neg right now at Monza or Glen (in the Brabham, Eagle or Lotus), but I wanna go neg at Ring first :)))))))))))))
Masochist, or what ? lol
I'm overall below 107%, but still need some work on a few cars and tracks.... Spookily I'm struggling with Zandvoort which is my fav.... thanx to that Vid of J Stewart cooly whipping around the course that someone kindly posted here a few months back.
It's off to the Ring for me right now :)))))))))))))))))))
Keep up the good work :)))))))))))))
wish me luck ;)

Nice going Hank -^
Zandvoort is a strange track. I found it very difficult to go negative there, However, I now have the Eagle, Lotus and Ferrari negative and I'm close with the Brabham. Something just seems to click and it happens. The secret there is to be smooth and carry as much speed through the corners as you can. This often results in interesting excursions up the banking though :(
BTW, I have chipped another big chunk off my MoG Rank at Monaco. My plan is to have the Eagle, Lotus and Ferrari negative at all tracks except the Ring. Now I only have Spa to go :D but it won't be easy for me getting the Lotus and Ferrari negative there.

Hey, Hank!
Since you created a profile in the GPL rank, I added You to my buddy list :)
I'm interested in your progress, you're just at the point I were a few months ago, and your good excalation is an incentive to myself, to progress further on -^

You all are progessing nicely and will soon learn the ways of the dark side as D_Man already has. )=) well done...
Hank, I put you on my buddy list as well. I really enjoy following the up and comers' progress like Tox a few others that Ive met in VROC, so I "will be watching your career with great interest young Skywalker" At least I think I have you on my buddy list. I did a search for "hank" and Hank Evans turned up with a few others...this is you right? If you want to add me to your list, do a search for "John Dantzler" and I should come up. :) good luck you guys.
Also, I noticed that you were using your right foot to brake in gpl...at least thats what it said in your profile. It might be a good idea to go ahead and try switching to left foot braking. It is sooo much easier and is almost imperative to achieve good car control. However, that doesnt mean you wont get fast driving with right foot braking. I know I guy in Atlanta who right-foot brakes and uses 'braking help' and he has a -30 GPLRank, so its definitely not impossible. If you decide to keep using right foot braking, you might wanna add him to your buddy list... Jimmy Yarbrough is his name. I think it could be helpful to compare your times with his further down the road.
As far as the mechanics of left foot braking being able to give you better car control, it all comes into play when you can brake and keep a little throttle on at the same time. This greatly increases the stability of the car, and you eventually will be able to trailbrake into the corners. And because the car is more stable, you will also be able to brake later than you would with right foot braking...even though you are still applying a little throttle. There is a video floating around of a guy driving a lap at Rouen in the ferrari. You can see his monitor, wheel, shifter and entire body as he is driving. The interesting thing about this is that he is driving using a clutch and an Act-Labs shifter. He is forced to right foot brake, but he still uses a method close to heel-toe where he uses the left side of his right foot to brake and then rotates the right side of that foot into the gas as he changes down through the gears and for some trailbraking. Its kinda confusing to explain, so it is best if you see the video. I will see if I can dig it up on my hdd, but if I cant hten I try and find it on the web.

I think I saw something similar from Andreas Wilke, but I'm not sure it's the same video you're talking about.

I got the Lotus negative (just) at Spa and now I only have the Ferrari to do and I'm there - all three cars negative on the 10 tracks. The Ferrari is proving a real challenge though

here is a link to that video I was talking about. I found it on an old hdd and uploaded to the dixierunners site. Its definitely a fun watch. Also, its about 22 megs so dialup folks might wanna think twice.

Many thanx, all... and Happy New Year!!!!
After many hours of trying to steer around all tracks I got down to within a few nanosecs of 1 minute behind the benchmark for Monster Rank :)))))))))))))))))
As for trying to use leftfoot braking: I think my biggest problem is steering... if I could get round once without leaving track I might consider a new pechnique :)))))))))))
The vid was inspiring... but I didn't shave much off my Rouen time... braking seems to be my problem there.
But there was a vid of Jackie Stewart going round Zandvoort... I'll do a search and see if I can get it.
good luck all for this year :)))))))))))))))))))
