So, as you all like these fast cars.. do you like to show off on the road?

I saw this TV program "The fast and the dead"... it was pretty cool.... Never realised between 200 & 400 boy racers (and girls) drove around near me in the hot cars, and doing illegal drags.. haha.

I know the 'sport' is dangerous, and ILLEGAL but this looked cool.. the other side of the show, apart from police chases and roundups, and car wheelspins was the serious side... DEATH. This was pretty bad.. sad stuff.. how people driving well over 100km/h on a 50km/h road, and they spin off and hit a tree killing most the people...
=[

Well what are ur thoughts? Or do u do it?

l think l said this before, l have been to a few of these illegal drag races with my uncle, of course l dont drive;)
the races l goto are pretty safe and very fun to watch :)

the drivers that aree dangerous are the stupid ones driving up the highway at double the speed, there the ones that kill ppl.

BTW, has anyone saw the ''drift'' videos from japan? thats some crazy shitE, they drive late night with over 20cars on a small twisty street circuit (illegal l think?? ) the style drift which they use is very similar to rally(known as drifting) driving. they do it late at night, and there are alot of accidents.

l guess u can be bad, but not too bad:D

There are 2 things that are very dangerous about unsanctioned drags: 1) the people who choose to booze & cruise, and 2) the cops. The 1st doesn't need to be explained, but the police put a pressure on racers that scares them into trying to escape. To have a bunch of cars racing down a starightaway in the dead of night, on a strip of road that is next to abandoned is far safer, in my opinion, than a police chase that may lead onto residential roads where the driver is frightened. If the cops just left the racers alone, then nobody would feel the need to run, and consequently there would be less accidents. The sad part is that some boobs like to show up at the unsanctioned drags with a bunch of beer or dope. I don't know who I am against more: the drunks themselves or the people who allow them to participate. If I encounter a drunk at a street drag, i tell them to leave. Some people take them on, I don't know why.

All this aside, street drags are exteremely fun, and above all (at least for me, being a mechanic) I have the opportunity to meet other gearheads who might share some knowledge and/or become good friends with myself and with whom I can hot-rod.

In my late teens and early 20's (not long ago BTW, heh), I used to street drag all the time. I was OK with this, because cops wouldn't touch me with a 10 foot pole while I was dating the district Sergeant's daughter, lol, and I always raced sober. Nowadays, however, there is much for me to lose in a street drag, namely my drivers license, which I kinda need to make a living. So, I still go to the illegal drags, but not to race so much, but rather to chew the fat with other gearheads. Even If I don't drive there, then a 6 pack and some good company makes for a nice night of wathing others race. If the cops show, fugg it, I ain't done squat, let 'em chase the drunk drivers!

In all honesty though, stay away from street drags unless you are with a tight crowd. There are countless numbers of thieves at these events who use the opportunity to scout out your ride, your parts or your stereo, and aim to steal your stuff sometime. A lot can happen at these things aside from cops showing up; I have seen fights, thefts, injuries, people being abandoned after someone runs from the cops, etc. I mean, it is fun, yeah, but just be wise about it.

"The 'Fake' & The Furious" did a decent job of depicting this urban scene, but in reality, it is more of a place where egos fly and tempers flare, not to metion the fact that those porkers have an eye on you, and you risk getting canned if you are there racing.

In a nutshell, I say check it out, but don't get into it too hard. Most important rule, and one that will save your pride when you meet the bigshots, is to remember that real racers keep it on the track, no joke.

L8ER, and have fun,
TJ

I take it something bad happened... Did you get hurt or busted? Either way, good move in choosing to stay away, it is probably for the best.

I think that street racing is wrong, but racing on heavily trafficated roads are the worst. I am going to try not to race but autoX instead
