Hope someone can help me out please.

When I downloaded some cars, such as the G5600rb, I placed it in the patch folder under Spcars and every time I try to select it I get

"Cube Error - Error opening mas file
C:\program files\electronic arts\sports car gt\CHTA\DB\G41PORB.MAS"

Can someone tell me how to fix this problem please?

Dr Dance,

For the record, the CHTA mentioned in the error is the Chatham track. That is where you were racing when the error occured.

I ran into a similar problem last summer. Then, it was that tire specs listed in a modified ani.ani weren't present in (I believe) options.mas. For that reason I use only the original ani.ani that comes with the game.

The #41 and #56 are EA addon cars that come with the game. My best guess is that you saved the G4100rb.mas and G5600rb.mas to the mas folder. All vehicle .mas files should be in the patch folder.

There are also a number of .exes that you might be using. Such as tccar.exe, gtcar.exe, etc. The original is spcar.exe. Some of those .exes may have a subfolder within the patch folder for the .veh files and the .bmp files. The .mas files still go in the patch folder proper. Again, not the mas folder.

There is one last possibility I can think of. CaseyE21 discovered that when you have multiple .exes with exactly the same persona name, that error can be generated. It can also crash the game back to DeskTop. Particularly in online racing. If you do use multiple .exes, always have a different persona name for each. I usually append (TC), (GTQ) or some such to each persona name to differentiate. It also allows keeping a limited car set in each persona making car choices easier.

Let me know if any of these ideas help. Or not. Also, SNR has online races every Friday and Saurday at 9:00 PM Eastern time (2:00 AM GMT). We meet in the chat room at:

You'll have to join the club to enter.

The skill level varies from awesome to awful <grin>, so you should find someone in your class. Check the rules for both Vintage and GTQ. All of us are willing to help if you have problems. We're racing mostly D/L tracks and we can help if you have problems there as well.

Good luck,

Robert
