DCMattius 10-25-2002, 01:00 PM In January, my Microsoft SideWinder non-ffb wheel will be 3 years old. Never broke and I've used it plenty. I need to clean it now that I'm looking at the grooves in the handle ;) DCMattius arcoli 10-29-2002, 05:54 AM I could get a good deal on the Logitech wingman FF... any of you guy's no about it? What's it worth? [SK]Mikey_g 10-29-2002, 01:46 PM Hi Arcoli. I use a MSFF wheel. I use it with the force feedback off. I had a MOMO and I did not like it and went back to the MSFF. You can get them for $99.99 at Comp USA. D_Man 10-29-2002, 01:57 PM arcoli, the best wheel depends on your budget :) The "Old Red" LWFF wheel which had the all-red wheel and cable-driven FF effects is a great wheel. I had two and loved them. The MOMO is a great wheel and I am still hoping to fix mine so I can use it again  At present I am using a MSFF wheel and I'm slowly getting used to it. The MOMO is superior in most respects - especially the FF effects, but for the money the MSFF is good value. Thrustmaster has just released a new "top of the line" wheel which looks to be a MOMO-beater. It is expensive and a recent review gave it 92 out of 100. The only real criticism was that the buttons seemed too flimsy. The FF effects are belt and cable driven like the Old Red LWFF which I believe is the best I have experienced to date. The cog-driven effects like the MOMO and MSFF seem too coarse. If you want to know more about the Thrustmaster wheel, there is a thread about it in the main forum. WCvXd 10-29-2002, 09:36 PM I broke both shift levers on my thrusmater Pro digital 2 and am thinking of replacing it. Any advice on a good 'solid' wheel? The shift paddles on that wheel are not worth a damn! I broke mine after only 2 weeks. So I cracked it open and saw why they broke. I cant even describe the cheapness in the way that thing is built...esp those paddles. I had to get a new wheel as my Thrustmaster Ferrari was dying, so I got that. Now I have gutted my Ferrari wheel and converted it to a 4 button 2 axis analog wheel and it works better than every. As for the best wheel...that all depends on how much money you wanna spend. If you are loaded then go for a TSW or a BRD, but if not, try and stick with a Logitech MOMO or even that new Thrustmaster MOMO. D_Man 10-29-2002, 09:58 PM LOL, I just fixed my MOMO and did a 1.28.53 at Monza :monkey: Man I love my MOMO - when it works  Dave MATT 11-02-2002, 02:08 PM I bought a Logitech MOMO just yesterday. It wasn't the all-out nice-looking version, though. No metal plating on the pedal stand, the only red is on the buttons and the pedals don't have that nice silver look to them with the red rubber grip and the MOMO sticker. Also, the pedals don't move with your feet.. They're stuck on the columns (or whatever you want to call them) that hold them, just like with an MS wheel. It doesn't have the multi-colored buttons either. But the basics are all still there, no matter what it looks like, and it works damn good. And it has the exact same cost as the Microsoft Sidewinder FFB wheel (and it has better clamps and a sequential stick shifter, which the MS wheel doesn't). Both the MS Sidewinder FFB and the Logitech MOMO FFB cost $99.99. And if you get them from CompUSA (if you live in the U.S.) you can pay an extra $5 for a 1-year warranty and return it anytime within 1 year and get a new wheel and re-up your warranty with another $5 (got the idea from agent and his MS FFB wheel.. heheh) So even if it's only getting a little worn when its nearing a year old, I can return it for a new one and simply pay $5 more for a new warranty (I don't even have to do that.. but I could just keep on renewing my wheel every year ;) heheh). The FF effects are not what i expected with PU, but when properly setup with GPL--WOW! Awesome! And let's not forget that extra shifter the MS wheel doesn't have ;) And the fact that it stays planted on your desk MUCH better. This sucker isn't going anywhere! Whereas my old MS Sidewinder (non FF) would and could slide all over the place. Although the MS wheel was better than the old Thrustmaster GP1 I had... and it's that single wheel that made me not want to buy another Thrustmaster product for the rest of my life. Damn sonuvabitch lost calibration only 2 weeks after I bought it, and it never was the same after that. And the centering spring wore out rather quickly as well. The local CompUSA has seemingly just gotten a new shipment of the MOMO wheels, and they're cheap compared to the upper model and the functionality is still there, it just doesn't look as cool ;) Works for me, though! BTW, I did my best ever Ferrari time at Monza today with the new wheel. 1:28.75. Not too shabby for the Ferrari, eh? :D I havn't quite figured out the Lotus and Eagle yet, so I havn't set any PBs with those yet, but I am well under 1:29 (around D_Man's time somewhere). D_Man 11-02-2002, 03:15 PM Thanks for the "review" of the wheel Matt. I look forward to an update down the track a bit after you have used it a bit more. That Ferrari time at Monza is great. My PB with the red lady is only 1.29.47 :) Maybe I should try to get her under 1.29 too ;) Dave |
