Hello all our online V8 Challenge racers! I have set this thread up for the sole purpose of posting information regarding online racing. It is a 'sticky' and thus will remain at the top of the forum.
Please feel free to post anything relating to online racing.
Below is a list made up by Aussie Muscle, to help out with servers.
The quote is ... Ok, i got sick of turning off my firewall to have a v8c game. the solution was a public server.
We will meet at Telenordia server (if we need extra people)
or gamespace.nz if we want a more private game (usually no one there!)
The file is V8 Server List .zip (http://racerplanet.com/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=44319)
Happy racing and good luck!

Dont race against Y2k. Every race exectp one that he's won he cheats by knocking you off the road.

That isn't very nice Y2K! In the words of Homer J. Simpson:
That's it got to your room!
(after you have annouced that you are going to your room)

Oh, Mickcals, come on.
He just cant hack it that I have been practising lately:rolleyes:
And if anything everytime I have hit your car its been my car thats spun off the track. Your cars like a brick wall (or tank)
Anyone race me and I'll show you (especially at Adelaide)
Y2k
Well I'll race U just U'll win ne way cos i suck at the game- lack of practise. Oh well tommorw I'll go back 2 skool and forget about most of this. Or at least not be as involved. I'll prolly will stay just asw involved just I dunno.

Y2k thats what i ve been telling you, your car is like a brick and i couldnt move you or overtake you because of the treat that you would ram me off the road, but i dont blame you, because if i was able to push you off the track i would (just to get you back).
And you have to turn off black "freakin" flags because they piss me off.
Y2kGoofball

I tried to turn the black flags off but I cant??
There off in my game, but when we race they dont seem to wanna turn off.
As for the brick wall, your the same. When I hit you you didnt move.
But I was reading on the EA Forums theres a way somehow to make the cars ghosted, so they run through you, not into you. Problem is I think the cars turn out like a ghost (white)
Y2k
BTW now its you who needs the practise)=)

U can turn off the black flags in online racing. Just choose the script "One Race/No Rules" in the dropdown list under the Start Race button. If u want to race without crashing into each other, choose "AI off/Collisions off".

Thanks bones, I suppose that makes sense now.
I will keep a note of it

Well you better take note, because i hate black flags

You only get black flags if
a) you cut the corner too much
b) you run someone up the arse
c) you drove too far the 'wrong way'
If you can't handle that, you probably shouldnt be behind the wheel:p I dont get black flags, so i imagine if you stick to the track and dont ram anyone, you wont have a problem either.)=)
Oh and just a minor correction, it wasnt me who wrote the server list, i just found it first. it was created by Nib, who runs the 'stats server'

I only get black flags when someone (Y2k) knocks me off the track and i dont end up the wrong way.
I think it might be a misinformation problem that can be over came by turning off black flags.
Because, when i race against the AI (on its hardest level with black flags on) i rarely get one.
But without black flags i feel there is more freedom on the track because i swear that the AI for black flags is as slow and stupid as Race Control in V8 Supercars.

yeah when i play i am on a mission like this guy, :007:, But if i get slammed into by some punce i get fricking black flagged and if the knob head infront slams on the brakes ahead of me when they are 200 metres away from the turn i also get a black flag!
Isn' this sposed to be at least semi accurate so we can drive like this dude :racer: with out getting a black flag?!?!

Perko i have to agree with you. Thats why black flags piss me off.

You can have black flags enabled in the game as there are ways around them.
1) if the guy in front hits the anchors, swerve to the his rear light, if you are far enough across then you wont be penalised, even tho you smash him off the road.
2) Getting a black flag on the last lap of the race is not enforced.
3) Learn how much you can cut a corner without being penalised. I think you only get b/f in some areas.
bathurst; sandpit just after skyline
adelaide; kink in long straight.
Some spots, like the first chicane at adelaide you can cut across with no penalty!
other tips:
at adelaide, use the black gravel to slow your car before the corners.
Anyone else have some tips?

Look Kev its not about slowing down or cheating or cutting corners.:racer:
Its when your are racing online and YOU get hit and go off the track for 2sec and you get a black flag!!! Why i dont know, and the person that hits you gets off scott free without a black flag (and i dont mean getting hit in the rear light i mean a whole push up the backside in a wall or on to the grass)
I can take i rear light tap because most of the time i can recover from that without losing any time. And i know what corners i can cut and what corners i cant.
But what i dont understand is :? , how come when you get hit my someone YOU get the black flag, while when you hit them they dont????
Think About:loco:

I can't say i've ever gotten one from being hit in the rear. i've got plenty from the front. There is one solution that will fix both your problems, turn off collision. its necessary when racing newbies and dickheads (and there are plenty of both)
no b/f, no getting knocked off.
As for the problem its probably what was in the fictional "patch". Dice made one, and EA said 'dont bother', or so is the rumour.

Without collisions its not a race, that why i suggest that we ditch the idea of black flags.
But you are putting up some arguement, which has turned into a debat :soap:

hmm, considering mickcals is crying over an incident we had when we where racing i think hes failing to miss the point, which is what his computer says isnt necessarily wha happens to the other person.
Like when we were racing I hit him pretty hard once and to me he went spearing off, yet to him I had gone spearing off.
Then as I continued to race his car appeared as a ghost up in front of the track
Online racing isnt the same on both computers sometimes, thats why I think the black flags bugger up sometimes.
Simple solution ... collision ON and blackflags OFF
BTW Kev were not talking about newbies or dickheads, were talking about us like me, you and Mickcals (Ok so I'm the dickhead when racing:eek: but thats not all of us)

No its about Dice's crappy multiplayer script. it happened to me the other day where i got hit up arse and got the black flag. i was 'lagging' at lot at the time and i guess the server had no idea where i was (who hit who?) cause i know I DIDNT' HAVE A CLUE!
y2k also makes a good point, there has been times when i've collided with someone and said 'sorry' to him. 'you didnt' hit me!?!' he replied, or worse, i thought i beat someone only to find out i was 0.75 secs behind him.=[
Stop bitching about its flaws and enjoy it for what it is, if we can't be gentlemen jim racers, i dont think there is any hope of enjoying online racing on a public game. (it is great when they do behave, like bathurst and top three racers being within 1 sec of each other, no i was 3rd.)
But what i dont understand is , how come when you get hit my someone YOU get the black flag, while when you hit them they dont????
Well i think that is the in-built 'Avesco' script. ie makes a complete arse of the rules interpretation

Thats all i wanted to do is have fun.
I was just bring up the fact the i just wanted black flags turned off, and thats how this very good debat started off.
but i ve been practicing and i think i have found a setup that might over come spinning off when getting hit, but i havent tried it online yet.
Y2k used the setup at my house and areed with the speed of it and the way it turned corners (and i think thats the secert to avoid spinning off after getting ramed)

how do u play online?
Y2kGoofball
11-16-2002, 09:08 PM
well, you'll need to get a list of servers or do a search ...
Then to get in (and do a search) go to multiplayer in the v8c menu or V8 Challenge lobby in the start menu
Then just find someone to race.
We usually password a room so only we can get in (even though most places are against it) and race each other

Well I've figured online racing out - it's all so very simple given how daunting it appeared before I looked into it. Except that the guy I was racing the other night was running lap times 5 seconds quicker than my record. So: spectate! I picked up some great tips while spectating the races, and I think I'm already a better driver for it.
But one thing caught me by surprise: I was a spectator over the EA Sports VX skin, the other guy was in MY blank VY skin, and when myself and another guy joined in we both had Champaign-Gold VX Calais - which is a skin I haven't released anywhere! It didn't take me long to figure out it just reffered to whatever skin happened to be in my \textures folder for the corresponding car - rather than the skin they picked. So when you guys are talking about what skin you'll use in the online series, what does it matter? Dissappointingly, it appears Kev can drive his Charger and everyone who hasn't installed it in the same slot will just see BigKev's VX; unless there is some control for enforcing each-others .pdo's and .tga's accross the network? Am I wrong?

confidence is the key to success and in your case you should be getting better and better each time you practice.
And remember its not speed that wins the race its consistency and reiability

Confidence? I'm absolutely positively 100% dead-set confident I'm gonna lose. I'm also absolutely positively 100% dead-set confident my car's gonna come out smelling like roasted rabbit and poached strawberries, my engine breathing liquid-injection as it mows into the fresh clovers.
If collision was on, I think I'd do a bit better; blocking the entire track as I drive sideways - very sideways. It works for the AI cars - I often beat them! But not necessarily fair for the rest of the field. Still - if anyone's up for a carnage-fest Carmageddon style...!
I like my setup (I think it's the default) because I have good straight-line control, and I like driving sideways. Some corners are faster sideways in 4th than carefully in 1st. But it looks like I'm gonna have to start fiddling to find something non-Craig Lowndes, something non-sideways that'll get me up with the competition.
