Despite what most people think, most things actually don't get fixed with patches that do everything for ya ;)

Anyway, High Stakes works just fine without any special patches in XP, I do believe. At least that's how it works for me. Well, I do have Microsoft's Compatability Toolkit for XP and it may apply some fixes automatically, not sure, but I don't do anything special to install the game or run it in XP. It SHOULD work just fine, unless you're trying to run it in Glide mode. Check your video card drivers. If you have a Voodoo card and are trying to run the game in Glide mode, run it in Direct 3d mode instead (that is if you have a Voodoo 3 or later... Voodoo 1s and 2s didn't have proper direct 3d support for NFS3 and 4.)

Email me your problems and I'll show you what to do.

I am running NFS4 on Windows XP Build 2600 with an ATi Radeon 8500 and a No CD patch.

It is said to be impossible to do, but things can be done.

Heres what to do infact (MAKE SURE YOU FINISH ONE THEN DO THE OTHER. MUST BE DONE IN ORDER OF POST.)

Download the v4.43 patch.
http://dl.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?sportplanet/nfscars/downloads/patch443.exe

Get the No-CD Patch. Readme included.

If you have an problems with Direct X, this will fix them up. (Even if your card isn't an ATi.)

Hope it all works.

Actually Matthew (Button) your way only allows him to change between Software Rendering and D3D mode. :) To change to Glide mode just do the following trick Matt taught me. :D

1. Go to the start menu and then up to 'run'.
2. Type in 'regedit' and hit enter.
3. In the list of folders click the '+' next to HKEY_Local_Machine and then the '+' next to SOFTWARE.
4. Go down the list to 'Electronic Arts' and click the '+' to the left of it.
5. Okay you didn't mention which NFS game this was for but it doesn't matter. If you want to enable Glide mode for Need For Speed 4 (High Stakes) then click the plus next to Need For Speed High Stakes. If you want to enable Glide mode for Need For Speed 5 (PU) then click the '+' next to that.
6. Make sure the name of folder (i.e. Need For Speed High Stakes) Is highlighted and then in the right window look for the line that says, "Thrash Driver".
7. Double click on Thrash Driver.
8. To enable Glide mode type voodoo2 inside the pop up box.
To enable D3D mode type d3d in the box (NOTE: for NFS5 instead of D3D type in Dx7 for D3d mode)

That's it. Now whether you start the game using the start menu programs list or using the autorun on the cd -- the game will start with whatever mode you entered.

I've had NFS HS working on Win 2K, I had to write my own work round for it, but it worked well, don't have it anymore as I now run Win XP Pro final build like most people seem to be. I just dropped my orignal game CD in, installed, put the 4.43 patch in and off it went, no problem.

If you don't have the original version of NFS HS then it won't owrk in XP for some reason.

viperman, l cant even select software or D3d mode when l select in 3dsetup, only lets me choose glide, which l dont mind because glide works better for me.

it happens to me with any EA game.
