View Full Version : Replay System failure

Hi all,
I just (finally) installed GPL, patch 1.2, and D3D rasterizer.
Upon initial installation, I tried to run a "training" race, but a message showed up that said "failed to initialize replay system" or some such thing, then said "weekend cancelled", and that was it.
I installed the patches, hoping that would take care of some weird problem... to no avail.
I can run the built in replays, and they look good at 1024x1280, but I still cannot race because when I get to the race screen, it gives the same message.
I don't see any "troubleshooting" guide in the books, but I haven't read thoroughly, nor have I looked much further than here for help.
I will go to papy.com to see if there's anything there, but if anybody has ran into this, please let me know what you did to resolve it.
Thanks,
Jeff (ZZ)

Hey Morph, have you deleted the ".sample" from the name of your core.ini.sample file? This then makes it your your core.ini file which has the replay parameters. Just a stab in the dark :idea:

Do what D_Man said there...remove the .sample, and also add these lines to the core.ini...
[ Replay ]
ReplayMemoryOverride = 128000
If I remember correctly, DC_Tox had this same problem and this corrected the problem. I dont know how much memory you have, but I have 512 and I set this setting to 128000 which is 128MBs. Anything above 64000 should suffice to catch all of those large replays, but if you dont have much memory, set it to 32000 or something.

I forgot that I used to have this problem when back running 98 as my main OS, I had 384 meg of ram, and I used to just keep trying and eventually let me in - it was random...
I think it was a swap space problem, I think GPL keeps the replay, or allocates HD space, as well as memory for such tasks and my HD may've been full - atm, I have 160meg free on the GPL drive, and I run with a good amount of Windows swap space too...
I hope this helps you - what John & Dave posted should fix the problem, I wasn't clever enough to think of that myself ;)
Good luck,

Jeff,
I confirm what Dave and John have posted above, I had the same exact problem and it was simply the CORE.INI file missing (it's there, but named CORE.INI.SAMPLE, just rename it).
The parameter
[ Replay ]
ReplayMemoryOverride = 128000
is simply telling to GPL to use 128Mb of RAM (maximum) to store the replay information of your races/sessions. If you don't set this parameter (or simply don't have the CORE.INI file, that's exactly the same), maybe GPL defaults to a value that's too small for a 1024x768 game replay, giving the error.
You can use also a much smaller value, it depends on your available RAM: I have 768Mb and have set the parameter to 130000 to store pro-long races replays (up to 2 hours+2 hours of practice, I believe), although I dunno when I will ever race them....hehe
By the way: the CORE.INI file also has a lot of other parameters, used to tweak the graphic resolution, the rendering methods, and so on. All the parameters are commented, but you can find a useful reference for all of them in one of the README files that come with the game (or the 1.2 patch).

Alright dudes.... Thanks a lot, I'll try that as soon as I get some coffee in me.
I went to bed racing SCGT, Get up racing GPL, ... when the heck am I supposed to find time to race NFS.
Psychotic I tell ya... purely psychotic. &(
