I can see the next post: How do you do that? :)

Josh first posted how to do that about a year or so ago and it worked for me. Someone else posted another way to do it as well (and you don't need to reboot!)

Click on your start bar, then click on "Run"

Type this in: dxdiag

Click "OK" and then a window will open called the DirectX diagnostic tool. Click on the "Display" tab. You will find two buttons labeled "Disable"

Click on the "Disable" button for DirectDraw (this will also disable Direct3D, which is right below DirectDraw). Now click on "Exit" on the lower right of the window and now try NFSSE. It should work.

You will have to re-enable DirectDraw to play some newer games. Just do it the same way you disabled DirectDraw (after you disable it, the "Disable" button turns into an "Enable" button :))

Some sound cards will make some crackling noises as well. This can be fixed in the DirectX Diagnostic tool window as well. Just click on the "Sound" tab and move the slider on that window all the way to the left and then click "exit" and try the game again :)

Thanks, guys. That worked. I take it TNFSSE doesn't like the newer video cards? 'Cause my older brother has a older 8MB AGP card, and he don't got the problem on TNFSSE. &(

It's possible. I've also heard of people using something to slow down their processor and it actually worked too. I kind of thought it was something with Windows 98SE itself (and directx). Your brother who has an older video card may be running the first edition of Windows 98, which works fine with TNFSSE without having to make any adjustments like that (so far as I know, anyway.. I've used the first edition and it worked fine for me, but it was on old hardware...)

No need to apologize Josh ;) Understandable you were in a rush... I'm sure you would have gotten back to posting detailed instructions when you got the time (and if I didn't post...)

Now a real miracle would be if TNFSSE ended up working in Windows 2000 (I've had it working in XP before, but I can't seem to do it again.)

No, he's running W98SE. Were also running the same directX versions. The only other diffs are the main board manufacturers, sound cards, and proccesers.(hes got a AMD K6-2 500 , I got AMD K6-2 400)
Could it be that TNFSSE don't like AGP? Also, does anyone no of a good force feedback steering wheel and pedels that work with TNFSSE?

AGP could be a possible culprit.

Sorry to say, but TNFSSE doesn't support Force Feedback. EA didn't get info in enough time to implement Force Feedback into the game. They said this in the readme.txt file I believe. They said something about Force Feedback being and up and coming technology and they knew about it, but they didn't get the info on how to support it in enough time to release TNFSSE. I use a Microsoft Sidewinder Pro USB+ wheel myself (non-force feedback) and it works great in TNFSSE (after you configure the wheel a bit and map some keyboard keys to buttons on the wheel, that is... not hard to do, though :))

Processors wouldn't make a difference, especially since those are of the same architechture. The only difference between those two chips is the multiplier, which won't affect anything other than the speed of the chip. It is something with Windows 98, directX and newer systems (probably AGP video cards, like you said).

That's a bummer =[ What about the Thrustmaster T1, T2, or T3 wheels? Right now I'm using a Interactive Mini Wheel. Works O.K., But I need the extra feedback of force feedback to do better. BTW, my brother and I both have Ati AGP cards(Hes got:Xpert@Play 98 8MB, I got:Rage Fury Pro 32MB) Could be TNFSSE don't like my cards' chipset.

thinking about this again, I really don't think it's any hardware, but it's possible he's running an older version of DirectX, no? It's a very common problem in Windows 98SE, which had always led me to believe it was directly associated with the OS and with DirectX... Maybe you should look in his system properties and make sure he's not running the First Edition rather than the Second Edition.

I KNOW Hes(my older bro) running W98SE. We installed the OS's on both comp's from the same CD, and it says "Micro$oft Winblows98 SECOND EDITION." Ok, ok, not EXACTLY in those words. ^_^ And we were running direct X 8.0a. Just finished installing 8.1 on his comp. NFSSE runs w/no problem. I'm running 8.0a also. So, my conclusion is  : TNFSSE doesn't like the newer video cards' chipsets. BTW, what video card are U using?

Thanks Matt. ;) :) -^

I run a Voodoo 5 5500. Had the same problem on the HP machine in my house which uses a Voodoo 3 3000 (both are AGP).
