I have just purchased Need For Speed 4 High Stakes and am having rouble with adding cars that I have made to the game. I have followed the instructions to adding to the game and they do not show up in the game. What am I doing wrong.
Also to add to the fun, why do the car.viv files for NFS4 not come up like the viv files in NFS 3. WHen I try to open the viv files I get an error message. Why???

Not sure what's going wrong so I'll try to cover everything. Please don't think I am insulting your intelligence, just making sure nothing was overlooked. It happens to all of us from time to time.
First off you need to install the "FULL installation" (365 Mb). By default the CD will point to the "Typical installation" (310 Mb).
Only the "Full installation" will read the cars from your Hard Drive. Where as both "Typical" and "Minimum" installations will read the Cars and Track from the CD.
Unzip the car.viv to a four letter folder you create. Usually the download has a "Readme.txt" file which tells you what to call it.
Some folks make self extracting zips designed to be opened in just the High Stakes directory but we often point the extraction to the ...Data/Cars/ folder by habit and that will mean it goes to a totally different path such as :
...Data/Cars/????/Data/Cars/????
( "????" represents the new foilder name in this example).
A quick way to tell if this has happened is to take a look at your cars folder using Windows Explorer. If there is a plus sign (+) before the new folder then it has done exactly what I have just explained. You need to either :
a) open the new folder and the sub folders within it to copy or cut the car.viv and paste it into the first of the new folders. The rest of the path can then be deleted.
OR
b) delete the new folder (and all it's contents) and re-extract the zip file again paying heed to it's readme file.
It would pay to also download & use the HS Serial Number Editor (http://www.totalnfs.net/editors/nfs4/SerialNumber.zip)
As for you viv files not openeing like the NFS3 ones that could only mean you are using Viv Wizard instead of NFS Wizard (http://www.totalnfs.net/editors/nfs4/nfswiz05.exe).
There is a possibility that they have "Read Only" attributes but it's unlikely. If so right click them and in "Properties" uncheck the "Read only" then check (tick) the "Archive" attribute.
Well I hope that is all it is 'cause I can't think of what else it could be.
Let us know if you need further assistance.
Good Luck

minimum install does take the cars from the cd, but typical and max are from the hdd (so only avoid the minimum)
