TCC will be holding Vintage and modified GTQ races at Magny Cours this weekend at 6:00 PM Pacific Daylight time (GMT-8) Vintage on Friday and GTQ on Saturday. The race lengths will be 12 and 24 laps.
GTQ (McOOPS! Vintage!) lap times will be under 1:30. 20 gallons of fuel will be sufficient for a 12 lap stint. I don't know about GTQ. I haven't tried it yet.
We will meet in the TCC chat at the above time. Be sure to have D/L'ed and installed the track in advance. The link has been posted at TCC. The track has also been uploaded to the file section in case anyone needs it.

Be sure to practice the track in advance. It's a tough one!

I'd like to remind everyone about the 2 tire rule for Magny Cours.
That is 2 tires on the roadway at all times. The red and white
striped curbing is considered part of the roadway.
There are some corners at Magny Cours where there is extensive green paving outside the curbing. That isn't considered roadway. Just be sure to keep 2 tires on the curbing and you'll be ok. As usual, I will not be looking too closely.
If you do cut a corner to excess, just lift off the throttle
immediately after the transgression to be sure you don't gain time. If you cut the corner to excess while passing someone, lift and return the postion right after the corner. If it's due to avoiding another car that's out of control, just proceed without lifting.
Just like Formula 1, if you don't gain time or position, there is no
foul.
Another rule we use at TCC is if we punt someone off course, we
immediately pull up and allow that car to regain the track before
continuing. If the two of you are side by side when the contact is
made, that's incidental contact and you need not pull up. Whether you do or not is a judgement call on your part. Since close racing is the point at TCC, pulling up even in that case is the courteous thing to do. Besides, you get to continue the battle! <g>
At other series, it's required or considered courteous for lapped
cars to ease up and pull off line to allow the lapping car to pass.
Good idea here too. Particularly if the leaders are in the middle of
a close fight. Except, please DON'T do it for McG. He'd rather lose
the race and execute a difficult pass. <g>

We had four racers tonight. Doug had problems with the drivers for his video card and could not get them fixed in time for the first race. He could have made the second race, but McG neglected to check email, YaMess or TCC chat in between the races. Major faux pas! And profuse apologies from McG for his thoughtlessness!
Welcome to Darren (Sir Delton), who joins us after a long hiatus from racing SCGT. He has been racing Nascar Heat. We know Darren from the Online Racing Ladder of last year, where he showed his considerable skill and consistancy.
McG found that he had cut a few corners to excess. As usual, that was due to driver error. He made it a point to lift and usually downshift to be sure that he did not gain any time where it was appropriate.
Heat one, 12 laps, was won convincingly by Sir Delton in his Lola T70. McG was close at the beginning, but fell back to a distant 3rd by making mistake after mistake. Lack of practice, McG? Dan (Spang123) drove to a well deserved 2nd place, also far ahead of the hapless McG.

3rd McGregor TC - HTCC #00 Ferrari 250 GTO - 1m01.575s
4th Burmcat TC - HTCC #56 Shelby Daytona Coupe -2 Laps
Heat two, 24 laps. McG settled down a bit and showed his experience with the GTO by taking the win from Sir Delton (SD) by a small margin. He still made a large number of mistakes, but was able to fend off the charging Lola of Sir Delton. McG posted his quick lap early in the race, while SD didn't get his until the 2nd last lap. To show the difference, SD had one lap over 1:30 while McG had 4. In the 12 lap race, it was seven to one! Ok, McG. Just you wait until SD has more laps in the Lola under his belt. Then let's see if you can best him. BC sat out most of the race to watch the antics up front.

We had 5 racers in one pit tonight. Thank you BC for your superb internet connection! The racing was absolutely fantastic and your connection made it possible. Unfortunately, Doug could not join us due to family commitments. Boy will he be p***ed. LoL
Race one, 12 laps, was decided on the first lap. The four Porsches played three ... -er FOUR stooges and dallied in the sand boxes while Casey's BMW motored serenely into a full 10 second lead over TC/KM/Four of a kind with McG breathing down his neck. McG quickly took second and whittled 2 seconds off Casey's lead. On lap 4, Casey had an off or a screen freeze, allowing McG to close up. On lap 5, Casey again had a problem (off or screen freeze) and McG was able to take the lead, even though McG also had a bad lap. On laps 6 through 9, McG managed to fritter away about 40 seconds and fell to 3rd place. A long way back! Casey to the fore once again. McG gathered it in and was able to retake 2nd place from TC/KM/four of a kind and set out after Casey again. On lap 10, Casey had a screen freeze that cost him a full 30 seconds! McG closed it up again, but was unable to take point. McG, whose tires were shot (tires worn message) managed to lop a full 4 seconds off Casey's lead on the last lap and finished less than one second behind. Well done Shawn Casey!!! Bravo! TC/KM/four ... drove his usual consistant race to take the remaining podium position not too far behind the lead pair.
Outstanding race all!
Heat one, 12 laps.
1st CaseyE21 - GTQ #38 BMW M3 20m02.960
2nd McGregor GTQ - GTQ #11 Porsche 911 - 00.639s
3rd four of a kind - GTQ #32 Porsche 911 - 16.210s
4th Spang - GTQ #82 Porsche 911 - 1m04.919s
5th Burmcat - GTQ #03 Porsche 911 -1 Laps
Heat one, as good as it was, was only the prelim for heat two - 24 laps. Dan (Spang123) took the lead from pole position and held it through the end of lap one. With Casey 1/2 second behind and breathing hotly down his neck. The other three? Well, there were only THREE stooges this race. LoL McG 6 seconds back, BC 11 seconds back and TC/KM/four ... 13 seconds back. Dan had a bad 2nd lap and fell to 3rd, allowing Casey and McG through. McG gathered it in and was 1.354 seconds behind at the end of lap 4. On lap 5, McG managed to lose almost a full 30 seconds and fell to 3rd, behind Dan (Spang123). Back to work, McG. Lunch break is over! (Hah! He's still out to lunch and the race is long over!) On lap 6, Dan had another off and allowed McG back into 2nd. The chase was on!
McG's offs ran his fuel down and he had to pit early on lap 11. McG had managed to whittle about 10 seconds off Casey's lead, then gave it all back on his out lap after his pit stop. Lap 14 was a bad one for Casey. He gave up almost 22 seconds of his lead on that lap alone. McG caught up and managed to get side by side with Casey. Both did a little "rubbing" trying to get track position. Then McG hung a wheel in the grass and had to back off. LoL. Good, close, side by side action! McG had a bit better run through the final corner at the end of lap 17 and took the lead with Casey in hot pursuit. A little too hot. He punted McG off at the hairpin on lap 18. Then he held up to give McG his point position. After McG resumed point, he lifted to allow Casey to close back up to about the former gap. Maybe not quite enough though. He had almost a 2 second lead by the end of that lap. Lap 22 was another bad one for both of our heroes. Casely lost over 3 seconds more than McG on that lap. On the final 2 laps, Casey regained all of that time to finish a scan 1.3 seconds behind McG. Casey's fastest lap of the night was the last lap!
TC/KM/four ... drove his usual consistant race to overcome being last at the end of the first lap. He finished 3rd again - the only other car on the lead lap. Well done TC/KM!
What a race! What a night!!!
