It's different, i'll say that. The front looks good, and the back has grown on me, but I still wonder if perhaps Chris Bangle has a secret lust for one of the old "bustle-back" Cadillac Sevilles from the early 80s. Those didn't go over very well either...
I like it alot better than the new 7 series, I don't think that thing is ever going to grow on me. The Z4 is creative, and best of all, it's a fresh design, not a freshened up Z3. I like the front end alot, it keeps BMW's heritage but is very fresh, like the Z8 was, and is not yet another BMW nose like the 3, 5 and old 7 & Z3.
The thing that I don't like about it is that it's just a hodgepodge of themes that really don't seem to work together. The back just doesn't work with the front, it's almost like they were styled seperately. Not as bad as the 7 series, but it's still no Audi TT. The overly-aggressively arched decklid seems completely out of place with the rest of the car and makes me wonder what Bangle was smoking. I don't think it would fit on any car though, it's almost a charactature of itself.
Would I buy one? Nope, I just don't like the styling enough to buy it, i'll take a Corvette or Boxster over the Z4 any day. From the front only, it's nice, but overall, the styling just doesn't work for me. I think Chris Bangle needs to stop smoking the funny weeds.....
