If some one could please tell me how to use the alpha / transparent converter things work. What I am trying to do is to add some graphics to the side of a car that I am building. How do I get the graphics to show up in the game?????

Not sure if Corel Photo Paint will do Masks and Alpha Channels. I could set you up with PSP 5.01 (shareware) that will do it all.

Corel v5 does have alpha channels and masks.

And as I replied with ..

Thanks, I didn't know that as I don't have the program.

I could explain the PSP way for you to try whilst using Corel. It may be similar. I'll post it on the Editing Suite forum.

I don't mind Private Messages but prefer to use the forums for editing business. This way others needing assistance can also learn.
But one thing I didn't ask is if Avenger was referring to cars or tracks. There are differences in some cases although some track TGAs properties can be edited using this method. Another track texture masking method (& Resizing textures) are another ballgame all together.

So a basic PSP outline would be to open the TGA file and in the "Masks" menu select "Load from Alpha Channel" or what ever is the equalivelant in your particular paint program.
The TGA's mask will be known as the "Background" image during this phase.
Select the Alpha Channel then (from the "Masks" menu again) select "View Mask" & "Edit".
Paint your modifications remembering black (0,0,0) will be see-thru and white (255) will always display whatever it is masking.
Grey (223) will change colours in the game's "Player's Car" menu. as long as those areas are in shades of grey in your TGA foreground image (the regular image you see).

After editing the Alphas deselect "Edit" from the Mask menu and that should enable the option to "Save to Alpha Channel". Select that option (again from the "Masks" menu) and save it to "Alpha Channel 1".

From the "Masks" menu (yet again  ) select "Delete". You will be prompted by a message similar to this ... "Would you like the mask merged to the current layer" to which reply with "No".
You will now see the foreground (normal view) of your TGA image.
Then close the TGA and answer "Yes" (or "Okay" depending on which program you use) when you are prompted to save the current changes to you TGA.

That's it, hey presto!! :D

Hope it was clearer than mud to follow.

Good luck
