Just wondering, if I cut into my phoneline, and ran co ax cable from the outside connector all the way to my modem, would it have enough of an effect on reducing my horrendous 'ping' to be worthwhile?

What you been smokin mon &( ... Hang on, would that really work??? I know where I live, the old copper phone lines, between my house and the exchange, result in a lot of data loss...You'd probably have to wire co-ax all the way to your closest telephone exchange!

ADSL is supposedly available to 97% of New Zealand...
and yet my uncles "new" house... has fibre optic cables.. and ADSL wont work on it.. needs the copper cables.. &(

Well, I "know someone ;) " who just had to 'adjust' their phonelines and I - er HE - noticed that the outside wire is much thicker, and seems to be sheilded. Then, in the box on the outside of the old house, there is a connector where the wire swiches from co ax (Not quite co ax, but definitely sheilded) to that puny, thin, barely insulated indoor phone wire.
So, it would be faily easy to do if you live in the country, but not in the city.
If no one posts an answer on whether it's worth doing soon, my um, 'friend' might try it out this weekend, and then 'he' will probably let you all know if it made a difference.

ya know , here i was thinking i had already tried every crazy thing you could try with phone lines and such . its nice to know that i ah , was wrong on that count . good luck to ya on it , if i hadn't already switched to cable myself i might try it as well . one question i might , erm , ask before you go the co-ax route though is , why not pop down to your local wiring store and see if they had some more of the shieled cable you have outside first ? easier to match up same to same than the other way around , i would think . good luck with it either road , and by all means let us know how it works out for yo......er , i mean , your friend ^_^
