View Full Version : Topgear takes the Jaguar XJ220 for a quick spin..

This appears to be a newly uploaded video on the http://movies.taner.net/ site.

Tiff Needell from BBC's TopGear show drives the Jaguar XJ220..

I've never seen the XJ220 in action before, and never realised how blindingly fast it is. As soon as those twin-turbos get going, well, the effect is pretty devastating..

The thing corners well, too. It actually looks like a very precise handling car (unlike the Mclaren F1, which was designed understeer.) Sounds nice, too. (A lot of turbo whistle, and wastegate sound, on gearchanges, and off throttle.)

And I'm sure I don't need to comment on the XJ220's styling, you've probably seen photos of it, or maybe seen one for yourself.. We all know how beautiful it looks..

Anyhow, here is the video link:

Hope you like it..

You'll love this video, especially when Tiff Needell takes the elegant blue Jaguar to Oulton Park race circuit.. Not only does this thing look good, but it has some pretty sensational speed, too..

I can honestly say I'm suprised by the way the XJ220 handles. It really corners exceptionally well, especially considering its size (over 2 metres wide), and weight (1440kg).

The engine specs are amazing, too:

Type: Jaguar Sport 3,500cm³ V6, twinturbo, 24 valve
Power: 542hp
Torque: 643Nm
Revlimit: 7600rpm
Fuel economy: 19mpg (!)

Amazing fuel economy for such an extremely high peformance supercar. On the same site (listed under Top Gear videos), their is a video of the Honda NSX, which takes place on the same race track, with the same driver (Tiff Needell).

It's compelling to compare the differences in speed between the two cars.. Where the NSX does 110mph, the XJ220 is doing nearly 140mph, and the XJ220 seems to be even quicker in the turns than the NSX, which is even more surprising.

 I cant download that movie, cant even get onto the page

Dont think Tiffy is Australian, but if I remember correctly he has some strange dialect.

Tiff Needell is British (and biased towards the "big British engined Lister Storm").

These videos are from the show from the BBC called Top Gear. A great show, that one, especially when Tiff Needell is flying around a race circuit in some super expensive car, which we'll never be able to afford..

FeZ: It loads properly for me.. Maybe your problems are to do with that internet troubles that have struck Europe.. (Seeing as you are in southern Germany.)

I would upload it at totalnfs.net, but it's 27mb, so, I'm not sure about doing that.. Keep trying the site, it works for me okay..

Thanks for checking it chris,

Took some minutes to get onto the site, lets see if I can get through to the videos ;)

As far as I heard, the KPNQuest backbone is still up, at least untill end of June now.

Hehe got it now, download was rather quick, geting on the page was veeeeeeeerrrrrrryyyyyyyy slooooooooooow.

Very nice video, man the fabulous BBC program is certainly one thing (among many) that I miss about Britain. The German programs do also test cars, but it all seems so very "professional" and is very booring.
You can actually see how much fun they are having at testing that cars in TopGear. I can remember one episode where they did test some of the "worst cars ever", and at the end Clarkson did get to work on the winner with a sledgehammer.

Fez: I've seen the Auto Motor und Sport show on Deutsche Welle, but, it's so, er, conservative in comparison.. The comparision tests they do are the shows only saving grace..

In Top Gear, they do actually seem to enjoy it quite a bit.. (I think I'd be somewhat in a good mood if someone gave me an XJ220 to drive for a couple of days as well)..

But, that XJ220 is amazing. It's a pure race car underneath that beautiful body work, and luxurious interior.. Those venturi tunnels at the back of it are m-a-s-s-i-v-e

Little wonder it corners so well.. It'd have gigantic downforce..

thanks,Chris.no, I just want to make clear every place's English pronounce. I found American people like to pronounce "a" as "e", Austrian people like to pronounce "ei" as "ai";) hmm, I found Tiff Needell 's tune is not what I often hear in TV's Programme or movies, which are most Amercian or British English. But I can't receive all the information he told is not because of Mr Needell's pronounce, like Matthew said:D is because of my poor skill....

I ment to replay to this thread, but my computer froze 2 days ago when I did. I going to d/l since I really like these videos. BTW are there any Mclaren F1 videos with a host or anythings talking through it? I had one, but I seemed to have lost it.

Yes, aw614, here you go.

http://taner.equinix.com/topgear/Top_Gear-McLaren_F1.asf

Tiff Needell talks about the Mclaren F1, it's design, and, how it is built.. Then we have this:

"But what they will want to do, and what you've all been waiting for me to do, is, give it some stick"

Next thing, we hear the intensely furious angry roar of a highly tuned BMW V12 going flat out.. (Watch the scenery blur by through the window)..

Then he takes to the Goodwood race circuit..

It was impossible for me to download the movie or open the site until today. Good video, even though the XJ220 isn't my most favorite car. I also would have liked to see an uninterrupted in-car view of accelerating through all the gears. TopGear is a great show, but many times I miss it as I watch a different news channel.

The XJ220 may be the fastest car officially, but on the same site there is a video of a F1 McLaren doing 243mph. The driver comes out of that banked corner starting at 217kph (he keeps saying the current speed), and just stays on the throttle until the macca peaks at 391kph.

http://w1.movies.taner.net/McLaren_F1-FAST.mov (3.9MB) Fantastic in-car shot video.

THanks Chris for the link
I d/l'ed it from kazaa before and I loved that video.
I also have the video Nite was talking about the F1 going 240. I think its the one testing at VW Proving grounds

The video Nite mentions is the one originally from www.mclarencars.com, which all the other sites have stolen..
