Sniper has quit.

Found this out recently... as you can see when you click the link to Sniper's Site, (http://sniper.totalnfs.net/) it says:
Sniper's "Need for Speed" cars is no longer available on this server, it has been removed (by the author) due to lack of interest!

That means all his Dragsters, Funny cars, MCO conversions, and his unique NFS HS and NFS PU are gone. Sad, really. :( And a bit unexpected, to say the least.

That is a real blow to the guts. Thom (Sniper) never mentioned it to any staff here that I know of and even if he did lose interest the community certainly didn't lose interest of his great editing abilities.... and my preferred taste in cars. :D-^ He could have left the site up or offered to merge his stuff (cars and patches) with the TotalNFS downloads or NFS Garage as Matt said.... same server, why not?

But it is sad to see him go. Besides his great cars, he is a really nice guy to talk with. I recall recently saying pretty much the same about Jason Trusty too but I honestly mean it as I did with hearing of Justin leaving "the family".

The previous Sniper absence was because there was some technical hitch with his site and he simply "lost interest". It was software related if I recall correctly. We had something new running which Thom didn't quite understand and he doesn't like to be dependant on others when it comes to website hiccups. As soon as I told Josh about it, it was fixed and he was back in full swing. Maybe he has ran into another software conflicting hurdle?

I will try to contact him and see "wazzup?". In the mean time I will search my backup CDs containing any of his cars.

That '...lack of interest' thing bothers me a bit. Maybe it means that he was disappointed in the interest other people showed in his work or something? That would be a pity. I'm still surprised that he radically took down the entire site without a word to anyone. :(

I recieved word back from Thom (Sniper) and unfortunately it's not another software issue. Thom feels he has done all he set out to do as far as editing NFS and as he originally only setup his first website so as to share his edits with his long distanced brother (until I butted in and asked him to join Total). < the "butted in" part was my words not his.

He thought everyone who wanted his cars etc, would have already downloaded them by now and was only trying to lighten the RacerPlanet bandwidth a little for Josh by removing his downloads along with the Flash and other website content.

The guy's heart is definately in the right place but I'm sure we would have liked things to have remained on the cool Sniper site.

Sniper gives NFS Garage permission to share his works as an outlet and if there are any cars in particular we can't find amongst ourselves I'm to let him know and he will upload them.

I'm sorry I haven't gone thru all of my backup CDs as yet but if we could try to list what we have of Thoms creations perhaps we can all contribute to organize the entire list of Sniper downloads and save him from having to upload them again.

Thanks for telling us that, Acca, I'm glad he didn't leave with bad feelings or anything. It's actually quite considerate that he was willing to free up room on the server (although I secretly wish that he'd announced it in advance)

For example, I didn't download too many of his MCO conversions, because at the time I was too occupied with all the scratchmade muscle cars. I figured that I could always gould get them later anyway. Shows ya not to postpone things... :nono:

I think I got his MCO 55 Buick pursuit, and also the Corvette C4 and Callaway Sledgehammer he made. Also got the 356 speedster and Carrera, 550 spyder and GT1 from NFS PU. Oh, and the 928 GTS.
Lessee... otherwise I got:

65 Impala Scotty Cannon edition (who is that anyway?)
47 Cadillac (mco)
69 Ford Torino Fastback(MCO)
55 Buick Century (non-pursuit)

and some more cars that are on NFSgarage as well, like his 1979 Camaro, 1994 Camaro, and Dodge Stealth. and at least one of his top fuel dragsters.

Rob!!! I just thought of a way to get a lot of my MCO cars into circulation quickly. Josh still has alot of them on the root of Racerplanet. They are the ones with "NO NAMES" the first three pages I believe about 50 or 60 cars. Look for them they are there, I tried to delete them a long time ago but was unsuccessful, then Josh moved them to that root folder and created a new folder called Sniper for me. You should be able to move these back into "NFSGarage" and then link them to screenshots and descriptions. Piece of cake ...EH?


Well Thanks again for the letter I'll keep checking every now and then to see what's going on with you guys, I'm still very glad that I got to know everybody there at TotalNFS and all the good times I had. I'm not ticked off at anybody or mad at anything I just wanted to do something different. Good luck with the list, I'll see if I can post one on total using information from my latest html pages! That should help. I just can't go through all that uploading again!

I've left a thread in the staff forum for Josh so hopefully most of these will still be salvagable. I say "most" as I think your dragcars might have been made after that incident therefore they wouldn't be in the root directory of RacerPlanet.

Yes, thanks to Thom's memory and for Josh not removing them from that location that we have near enough the complete Sniper works. I'm not sure if his latest works are in there as this file location was an upload accident which may have happened some time before he finished editing.

I made a folder just for "Sniper" and downloaded all 95 zip/exe files.
Unortunately Remko hasn't access to the FTP side of NFSGarage so we'll be uploading them via the upload script Mike already has there. Hopefully Remmy can get hold of Mike as it would make things easier and much faster using FTP.

I didn't find any webpages though. So I'll ask Thom if he could please pass them on for each car's discription.
