View Full Version : A Contest

I have thinking about proposing this for a few weeks now. A new challenge. A contest.

Even the newbies among us have become at least accustomed to the usual tracks in PU. The Pros, of course know every line of every track, both forward and backward. But mirrored tracks...another story altogether. I used to hate it when meinherr aka [XR]Herr would throw one of those mirrored tracks into the mix of "Herr's Tour", but I began to like it as I saw how it really separated the true drivers from the "memorized track" racers. With that in mind...

The Contest

Here is a challenge for you all:

Pyrenees backward and mirrored racing the '73 RS

You have until this Sunday May 26, 11PM gmt to produce a replay for this track. If possible, configure your replay to show the HUD as described in Matt's post here:

Hud Replay (http://www.racerplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1868)

Send your replays to me at fbabb@bellsouth.net.

Don't post the replays here!!! I want everyone to be in the dark as to what time it will take to win. I will post all of the submitted replays and announce the winner on Monday May 27. Now the good part...

The Stakes

To the winner - My recently purchased copy of Grand Prix Legends, including all of the upgrades that I have downloaded for it. I dont have time to play it right now, and I would like to pass it on. All you have to do is pay the shipping cost.

By the way, if you do not care about the prize or do not want to pay the shipping, try the challenge anyway - it will be fun. I will just award the prize to the top finisher who would like it.

Get to work people!!!

Great idea :)

But this link might help a little more (all files except scripts have been deleted from the old nfs5racing site): http://www.racerplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1868

Sounds interesting.

What car to use ? all must use the same car I guess ?

On that link you posted for the "HUD display" I cant see the screenshots, and as there are no HEX Offsets given on what to edit I am a little lost.

Oops, forgot to specify car. Hmmmm... I'll post a decision in a few minutes.

- GT1, 550, Moby - No, I want to eliminate gearing setups from the mix
- 95 Turbo - BBBBoorrrrring!!!
- 356 - I dont have that much time to watch replays.

It needs to be a fast, but challenging car. The 78 turbo - no, too many people "specialize" in that particular car. Something a little more obscure....The 73 RS. Yes, Iike that.

73 RS it is !

I will edit my original post to include this so that folks will not have to read this far to find out.

Oh, and thanks to Matt for the replay hex info.

Sounds good Kyzr :) Now all I need to do is figure out what all that hexing is about. Sounds like witchcraft to me. Hubble bubble toil and trouble let me get there on the double...

I hear that the 73RS is best with the other gear wotsit the err um not the high or the slow but the ....bugger.... can't remember.

Closed gear box is faster with it, not the long box

OK. I downloaded a free hex editor and changed the boxes that Matt said. I now can't watch the replay ( my rec on cote :") ). I think some more pictures, explanation of how to use it is needed maybe. Or maybe I am thick. :D

if anyone can help out with putting a hud on a replay, its MATT or Wazza. Matts Page helped me a lot visually and Wazza helped me out auditorily errr typing. Its really quite easy once you do it the first time.

Hi Guys,

Ok here is what i found out about that HUD thing. Check out the attached picture and you will see.

It looks like that the bit for the HUD is not always in the same place, but what I found it is always the first 01 in the replayfile.
The other one described in Matt's post, the 02 that gives you the possibility to ESC out of the HUD display, always seems in the same spot.

So just make sure that there are all 00 in the first 4 lines of your replay and you will have the HUD.

Dont change the next 01's below as they will change the direction/mirror of the replay. Damn funny to watch your car trying to drive a bwd line on a fwd-track !!!!

Hope that helps,

FeZ

hope now i can attach the file :(

Kyzr, Kyzr! What have you done? You've turned all these good folks into <gasp> Hackers! ^_^

KyzrSoze
05-22-2002, 04:10 AM
^_^ Yes, Chey. I have been wondering if someone will now spend time trying to construct a perfect replay with ideal corner speeds and racing lines using the hex editor in place of actual driving. Prolly not possible (still havent tried the hex edit thingy yet) but the possibility opens interesting doors.

FeZ
05-22-2002, 05:09 AM
Now that you mention it, I hope you have a tool to detect hacked cars on that offline-replays.

I remembered, I had a Super Super Speedster once with a 5th gear that could do about 220km/h (140mph). Ok 5th gear would be a little obvious, but you know you can edit alot.

I question the intelligence of anyone who would try to hack their way to victory in this contest. They might as well just send me an email stating :

Hi Kyzr,

My name is (insert name here) and I am a cheater. I have ignored the existence of several cheat detection programs and boldly sent you this replay anyway. I am hoping that you will overlook the fact that I clocked a 1:46.32 in a 73 RS. Please. If not, then I realize that I will no longer be welcome in this forum, so this is goodbye.

thank you
(idiot's name repeated here)

P.S. Please post this information in the forum so that others may have the opportunity to toss me out of every online pit that I attempt to enter in the future.

Wow the 73 RS 2.7. Wow that used to be my Favorite car back when I had no idea it actually mattered how you set up the car (meaning the weird way to set up the shocks and all, I'm sure you all remember when everyone was in the dark). It has an engine sound which is much like a whole orchestra which you only have to feed and not pay. Honestly I'll have to dust it off, and use the close ratio gear box apparently, thanks for that by the way I had no idea although I heard it somewhere.

Pyr Bkwds Mirr. The thing about mirr tracks is that they hurt my brain, because I got used to the fwds ones, but none the less a FUN thing for once in a while, once you realise ppl like BOSS are always around in almost everything, you learn that having fun is what makes you good...atleast I think so, all in all great choice I'm in if I have the time, thanks for spycing it up Kyzr, cu in da pits mate. Weird way to set up the shocks? Oh yes I know. You put them in the middle right? No, I mean slightly to the left? Um ... :help: It's all dark in here...

Help, I need somebody, help, not just anybody,
help, you know I need someone, help.

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down,
and I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
won't you please, please, help me.

And now my life has changed in oh so many ways,
my independence seems to vanish in the haze.
But every now and then I feel so insecure,
I know that I just need you like I've never done before.

Help me if you can, I'm feeling down,
and I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
won't you please, please, help me.

I plan to be online at least a little this weekend. Look for my Pyrenees Backwards/mirrored practice pit - I will call it Kyzr's Contest . If you dont see me there, start that pit for me...I will be along shortly. Should be fun.:D

Also, I have revised the schedule a bit. I may not announce the winners until Tuesday. I want to allow time for cheat testing and viewing the replays.

- Include your online racing name

- Include the name you use on this forum

- Use one of these names in the replay file name.

OK. I made a replay. I don't have that car you all were talking about but I used an older car to make it fair. I had a little trouble with the traffic and all but I took the short cut so as to make up time. I aint never played on the internet before (lucky for you all) but I kick the crap outta that Whatshisname and that other one Parise ;) So watch out.

Here is my replay.

LOL, well it appears my dad has fixed the graphics problem, so i go to race. Instantly I could see my joystick wasn't working, so I checked the deadzone in options, and there is nothing showing, no joystick detected.. remember I don't have my CD, and it took my dad ages to figure out how to manually add it....... ARGH.

05-26-2002, 07:21 AM
haha thx man.. i have sent u in 2 replays.. 1st one was on my 5th attempt.. the other was after racing for a while.. (thats all I'll say..).. now i know the mirrored track inch for inch... still slow time though.. &(

bed time... this little competition and F1, has kept me up 4 hours past my bedtime.. =((

Domagoj
05-26-2002, 03:09 PM
welll...I think I just missed the deadline with my second replay (the first was pretty fast)...and the replay was saved at 3:59PM here, so it was technically set at 10:59 GMT I believe...but maybe that doesn't count - I sent it in at 4:03 or thereabouts...

Well, I'll keep working to get past that final whole second marker...back to work...I'll post it tomorrow, since it won't be part of the official list...:p

Hey Kyzr, did you mean you'd post the times at 12:00GMT, since that's Monday? :)

Wazza
05-26-2002, 03:24 PM
I sent a time in earlier too....

i wanted to get into the next second marker... but it was right on the line.. and when i exited the replay it was 3min past.. oh well.. i only gave it an hours worth.... plus watching the F1 in between.....

Wazza
05-26-2002, 03:27 PM
haha, anyway, ur bound to have won by at least 3 seconds.. ;)

i wonder how many people took part.... I wasnt sure about df.. so first race I chose 65/5, and stuck with that... seemed to be ok.. just a little loose on a couple of points..

Domagoj
05-26-2002, 04:01 PM
Well I don't know how well I did ;)

Just got past that last full second marker, and it's 4:56PM here now, so if Kyzr wants to post the replays at 12:00AM GMT, then maybe I can eve nsend this last one I just saved at 4:51PM

I just sent it HUDded to Kyzr at 4:59PM, seconds before 5:00PM (12:00GM)...

Anyways...if this latest one isn't included in the list, I'll post it...:)

Wazza
05-26-2002, 04:19 PM
wtf? i stopped racing at 10am my time.. its 11:15am now... u talking about only 15min ago?

i only gave it a bit.. i bet u spent hours on it.. my first attempt was yesterday.. :p

Wazza
05-26-2002, 04:22 PM
mmmmmmm....

its 11pm GMT, not 12amGMT... its now 12:18am GMT.... ur last times dont count.. ur original time would be fastest enough anyway, dont worry &(

edit: and oh yeah, he said he would post them tuesday.... he has to check them all for cheats, and watch them all.. give him 36 hours or so.. ;)

my time can be 2 sec faster.... i should have raced just Bkws, to see what time is possible, mirrored should be exactly the same, providing I knew the corners just as well in reverse...

Domagoj
05-26-2002, 04:25 PM
of course I spent hours on it =))

Just got home from the movies (took my wife on a date to see Star wars) and found a few replays in the mail. Not as many as I expected though. I will still have to sort through and watch them all, as well as run cheat tests on them.

I'll have to check them all out in the morning, so Im extending the deadline for another 12 hours. If you want to improve your chances,or haven't gotten your replay in yet, there is still time!

keep working

Hey how was Star Wars? I checked out some sites like Famous Players and Cineplex Odeon (or whatever it's called now), and some people scathed it with 1/10 and 3/10 reviews...but there were lots of 10/10s too, so it got an 8.1/10 overal on the FP site...

Well, it is Star Wars after all, I'd better check it out in the next couple of days - and Spider Man too...

KyzrSoze
05-26-2002, 07:18 PM
Well, it is Star Wars after all, I'd better check it out in the next couple of days - and Spider Man too...

Very true, it is Star Wars, and as such you WILL go see it. It is one of those films that you wont pass up just because a few people didnt like it. Even if it sucks you have to see it for yourself.

But it doesnt. I liked it. It was much better than episode1. More dark and serious and less goofy. Of couse, like all of the previous ones it has less than stellar acting, and it is a is a little cheesey at times. :)

Wazza
05-26-2002, 08:29 PM
cool man... now to break into the next second, and catch up to Domagoj's unknown time... &(

Wazza
05-26-2002, 10:42 PM
OK, I have given up... for the last hour, I havent once finished.. everytime, I crash on either the last jump or last right hand corner... my time each time is around 1-2 sec faster than my current.. which is... 2:12.68.... so if i ever didnt crash at the end, a high 2:10 would have been in the books.. oh well.. had some fun, then it turned ugly...

Maybe we could do it again but with stock cars? Or even a new track in a race with the AI in their mod cars with damage and collision on? Then anyone can have a go (if they know what day it is).

Domagoj
05-27-2002, 06:15 AM
Hi people. Well, since Wazza revealed his time, better give it up...

Chey, you could've run a much faster time (maybe thrashed me), but you only gave it an hour and a bit...it took much longer than that just to learn the possible speed markers on every part of the track! :)

And Wazza, you could've whooped my ass. I only got a 2:11.87, after lots of trying...and a 2:11.49 is obviously possible, but a 2:10 never really crossed my mind, although I'd have to say you're right about it being possible...since there were 3 sloppy parts (and some of the other parts could be a tiny bit faster also)...but I just wanted a 2:11 since I had trouble getting it...and it almost wasn't enough! :D

Next time give it a little more - if any of you got into the 2:11's, I bet you would've beaten me...and maybe someone has anyhow...:)

Hey, DC_Geezr!DC_Geezr: DC_SryIcouldn'tHelpIt/RicUh, how come you could resist with [XR]SUE and "Hooters", but not me and my "going at it"? Huh, huh, huh? ^_^

Domagoj... I just don't get anything out of offline play, anymore. Sometimes a rare "evolution" run, maybe 65 911 coupe in the "Rally of Europe" (as that's the slowest car I can win with, and I find that quite challenging to do with that combo). But I just don't get much out of running solo. Not to knock anyone who does. We all have our personal likes! -^

KyzrSoze
05-27-2002, 07:50 AM
Well...going over the results took much less time than i thought. It seems that you could have made it into the top ten by just entering. Spidey, put Chey's clothes back on (in your head I mean). Your dreaming of purple undies lowered the contest submissions by 14%.^_^ Today is Monday by the way ;)...

I recieved about 40 messages from different people who expressed interest in the contest but only 5 submissions, strange.

Anyway here are your results:

Domagoj 2:11.87
[SK]Wazza 2:12.68
[XR]Chey 2:13.87
FeZ 2:14.96
Froma 2:21.90

That's it !

Domagoj proves again that practice is the key to racing. He and Wazza submitted better and better replays for the last two days, both of them enjoying the contest the way I had intended.

As promised Domagoj will be getting my copy of simcity.

Just kidding D, I'll be in touch to get your mailing address and such.

What's next?
I would like to do more contests because I really think that they are what make the game the most fun. So how could I have improved the contest? Is offline no fun? Give me some suggestions and I will start planning a new one.

Spiderman
05-27-2002, 07:56 AM

Great times Domagoj / all. :Peace:

It's a shame so little racers competed KyzrSoze. =[
On the other hand... that produced me a top 5 placing.

Not that my time deserved it though... Thanks all for not competing... :HB:

How about those replay files you promised KyzrSoze? Man i'm curios about how Domagoj and Wazza raced this combo! I've been practicing all weekend just to better my 2:22:50 to 2:21:90. Tried different settings and all - and came up with the best one for me: downforce 0/0 with a close gearbox. Not enough hehe...

I'd love to see those replays.

Looking forward to the next contest too. Cool idea! Gotta do some practicing also i guess! :read:

Thanks fer putting up this contest. I loved participating.

Oh yes...here they are.

Domagoj
05-27-2002, 01:49 PM
Well, Fro, I used the high speed gearbox. I tested the other two trannies out, but to me they seemed just a tad slower (however I never put much effort into them since I found a good niche with the high speed gearbox) 40/0df is what I first used, then I tested 50/0, but that was a little testy for the nerves, so I settled on 45/0, and matched the speeds that the 40/0 allowed on all the straights (except for the start there - it's possible to go 240-241kmh before entering the tunnel there with 40/0, but only 238-239kmh with 45/0, and the rest of the track seems advantageous with the 45/0 - but that's no more than 0.1-0.2s at the very most, which is well made up for and more later on).

Using so little downforce surely robs you of tons of time...you'd probably find 8-9s with ease...and then a little more practice to get a little closer to 2:11...

One last thing - Kyzr - are you sure you want to part with GPL? If you're set on it, ok, but remember that sometimes you can't get a new copy of an older game...like NFS2:SE and TNFS - those aren't to be found anywhere (at least I had to fluke to find NFS2:SE a year ago, and never seen NFS1 since like 1997)... So just in case you change your mind, maybe hold onto it for a bit (that is, unless Wazza wants to start racing GPL right away :))

Also, how much will the shipping be? If it's like $20, might as well buy a copy here, and save the trouble...even $10...are you sure you don't want it for later? :)

Domagoj
05-27-2002, 02:24 PM
Just watched al the runs - everyone seems to have mastered the track...just different setups/styles and determination made up for the variance in times...

u guys take some turns faster than me...hmm...better check all your df settings - here they are :

Froma - 0/0 - the psycho setting :) how does it even handle at all?
Fez - 40/4 (good setting if you ask me)
Chey - 75/7~!!!!!~!!! How were you so fast with that df?? Man...you could've been very close...
Wazza - 65/5 wow high df again...maybe it's not all that improtant how much as long as 40/0 "minimum"??

Well, I wonder who used what tranny...

Maybe we'll see something like this again, and no reward is necessary, it's nicer when it's for fun :)

FeZ
05-27-2002, 02:45 PM
Good to see that replays.

Chey 1 second faster, not a surprise, Wazza another second faster, also no surprise, but Domagoj even another second that is insane.

Hey Froma, 0/0 DF is just madness ^_^ I tried to run that on Autobahn and it didnt really work :D. 1:21 is a good time for that setup I would guess.

I could not put as much time and effort into practicing as I would have liked. Did about 10 runs a day. 1st day I did manage to do 1:21:xx, 2nd day down to 1:17:xx, 3rd day low 1:15, and then on 4th day I did the 1:14:96 and the weirdest thing was I did 3 runs with exactly the same time.

Hope to see more people participate in the next round, maybe do a fwd/mirror, for my taste that is even harder than bwd/mirror.

Chey: I spent around 120 minutes total on it I beleive.. maybe about 100 restarts.. when you include me restarting after 15 sec coz I mess up first corner.. :D

My times I sent in were:

2:14.25 (5th go... after 6 or so min... a bit rough...)
2:13.25 (getting better... still rough)
2:12.68 (... still bad.. LOL)

then I did race for another hour AT LEAST, but entering the last jump at around 1:46/7 or so (not too sure), i was 1.5 sec faster at least then my 2:12.68, but then often, I crashed on the jump, or on the next right hander, where I drifted off into the rail... lol. BANG.. (a few screaming swear words... ^_^ )

So had I actually finished a good run... definately 2:11.2 or lower... maybe best of 2:10.50.....
What I never did was run the track just bkws.. to see what I can do.. offline in 88 turbo just bkws, I did a 2:10.75, seeing how fast a WR could be.. which is 2:09.50 at the moment by [NO]TEN....
so a 2:08 is good with pole...
weird, the 73 can be just as fast......

perhaps in the next challenge we perhaps do what we do online... race along, turn around at a shortcut, come back towards start line, turn around at some other shortcut... and finish... with a much slower tiem than normal.. maybe 4 or 5 minutes... :D
good tracks, Schwaz, Corsica, Normandie.. I think...

anyway, good fun contest....

btw, Markus/BOSS ran a 2:15 in this, on his 2nd run.... after 3 minutes... not bad!.... but he gave up then.. lol, he could also do a 2;10, or even 2:09.. seems to pull off some weird stuff... ;)

oh yeah, speed markers..

enter first tunnel at 237/238km/h.....

on the first jump.. should be over 250.... and then around 240 under the next historical bridge thing.. and then hit 250-254km/h before crossing the grass next to the castle thing half way... and slowing down to 240-244 when crossing the grass.. lol...

oh yeah, my 2:12.68 time, was for the original deadline of 11pm GMT.. i sent it in at 9:30pm.... :)

I only started racing 36 hours ago or so.. coz i had no graphics card and joystick install.. lol

heh...I spent a bunch of hours on it...but most of that time was basically wasted on fatigue - I would do a bunch of runs, and never really get anywhere, then go for a break to eat or something, then come back and first try run a 2:12.25 and stuff like that (this was on final session). Then a little while before 2:11 after that on same run, and 2:11 seemed a bit effortless to get after the 2:12.25 came out of nowhere, but I was already past the deadline anyways so I stopped after I got 2:11...

My times were (first one is first ever completion with this car/track combo - all 40/0 except 45/0 for final session) 2:17.21, 2:16.21, 2:15.37, 2:15.15, 2:14.78, 2:13.84, 2:13.93 (fatigue set in by that point obviosly...). Then next session 2:13.40, 2:12.78. That seemed not bad, but two days later (on last day) tried a bit more and got 2:12.59, 2:12.46, 2:12.56, 2:12.25 (this one came just after that break, first try, and seemed very easy where ones just before were laborious), 2:12.21, 2:12.06, 2:12.09, 2:11.87. Maybe higher df might have helped a tiny bit, but 2:11 wasn't super-easy - although it was basically just a clean run at near-max pace with 3 pretty lame little mishaps...but I wonder what that same kind of performance would have been with optimum df, whatever that might be...

For sure fw will seem a bit stranger since fw is more often raced...

I guess I'm used to going on and on to learn (push to the utter extreme) a track from scratch in one or two days (and ultimately trying to pass that final full second marker), like for MC4, my top 8 list is 1:12.37, 1:12.34, 1:12.31, 1:12.28, 1:12.25, 1:12.25, 1:12.18, 1:11.78. It seems it takes 5 times the work to get to 1:11 than it does to get to 1:12.49, but it's strange - getting a 1:12.49 is around as hard, because it takes so much effort to work your way down to there, and it's almost pure luck getting a good wall hit at the end of the straight, plus even more irritating if you don't get a good rail right on the last turn there...which happened a number of times even after a god first rail... It's almost not worth getting a record in this way how brutally it ravages and stretches your brain - definitely not healthy, and far unhealithier to try for 1:11 even after having claimed a record 1:12, man going for that probably has my total number of attempts for MC4 way past 1,000, all in 1-2 days, spread out over 2 - just too much...and of course that was done for "long term" standing of the record, but still you never know if and when the Wazzter will come rolling by, with one of his 235kmh wall hits...:)

Now if only I put this much effort into other things...^_^

yes, I can run fine times, but to the extremes as you... I only like to race short times... thats whats required online.. just able to almost do a perfect race everytime... BOSS/Markus masters this.. ive seen him set around 7 or 8 WRs, in consecutive races, starting on all parts of the grid... very amazing......

he seems unable to crash bad, except on the MCs.. lol....

mmm.. 1:11.87 on MC4.. oh yeah.. i went and did that a week after u posted it.. i did 1:12.5 very easily.. and i was running ur 2 laps.. seeming, that i am in good form again, i may go try it right now.. :D ;)
I'll be happy with 1:12.2 or less.... yes, everytime i do a great first 2/3s of a race, and then crash somewhere near the end.. lol... ok, one 8 lap MC4 race coming up....

Wow, congratulations to all who perticipated, and great thanks to KyzrSoze for holding this contest.

I haven't looked at the replays yet, but the times speak volumes!

Froma, Wow, 0/0 DF, I think your time is brilliant for that combination. -^

FeZ, wonderful time. I know every time we meet online, I've got a "race" on my hands, your time here just underscores your skill and achievement! :D

Wazza, always incredible performance, online or offline. I'm sorry for your computer troubles, DirectX and your joystick driver. I know you undoubtedly could have crached that last second! Still, that was an amazing time!

Domagoj, fabulous time. Your dedication on these runs is simply second to none. I'm in awe. And thanks too for the breakdown about our DFs. I know I'm terrible with setups, personally. I just can't seem to get enough feedback on the car to make the determination. I know you use speed-markers, which would take care of it. I've never found the dedication to do that personal. I'm in awe, Domagoj.

Kyzr, I think more contests would be awesome. Maybe, I was thinking, we could do, say "The Rally of Europe" with a car we can't possibly win in, so we would always have to contend with the AI in the race. That's 7 tracks, all forward, all point-to-point, I think, Modern era, but any car allowed to enter. It's also collision and damage ON. With all those tracks it's definitely a great deal more variety. We just save replays for each track in the set using the same car. We can even say that no "repairs" allowed, or other rules. This could get very interesting - very much like real racing, if we want to make it so. We just add up all the times from the various runs and determine a winner. We can alsoc ompare the damage $ screen at the end (PrntScrn for a cap) and maybe "add" time to the runs for how much damage is acquired. Just ideas. Personally, I get a bit bored running the same track over and over, and this would really spice it up for me. We could even use a "stock" car or whatever rules we wanted. I see the potential is endless for this sort of thing. I think you've really started something here that could be great fun for the community. Also, any of the other rallys in the "Evolution" play mode would be good. We could start off with something less ambitious like the modern era "hillclimb" or one of the 356 races. All good fun!

Hi Chey,
I like the ideas you've put forward :))
Do you know if NCOPS could do anything so that we could do it online and maybe get some stats for stock races too?

C u online soon :))

Thanks to all for participating in this contest, and also for the feedback and ideas. I am taking all these into consideration as I plan the next challenge.

@FeZ
Hehe...no I did not submit a replay for the contest. I originally thought (after the barrage of mail that I received concerning the contest) that I would be way to busy just keeping track of entries, watching replays, cheat testing, etc. to be able to compete. Plus I didnt really want to compete for my own prize. As it turned out I was very wrong about the busy part and spent too much time thinking and preparing for it.

I did make 20 or so runs and whittled my time down into the high 2:16s, but I did not save any replays (I did not intend to do so until I could find my limits). I will just have to manage my time better in the future. :)

@Joe
I think, prolly like some others, I had the wrong idea on this....I didn't think I could do well, so I didn't bother to submit my time.... not with Wazza & Domagoj around.....whereas the whole point was participating....

Yes, I should have emphasized the point of participation a little more. On the one hand it was a contest intended purely for fun. On the other hand I hoped that a wierd new (unpracticed) track and equal practice time for all would make people feel like they had a better chance against the usual fast folks. This was a learning experience - the next one will be improved. Stocks - great idea. It removes tuning as a factor and levels the playing field even further.

@Spidey
My assumption was that the prize would be a novel motivation instead of a intimidating hindrance. Interesting. Maybe a rediculously ugly trophy would be better. We could have monthly contests and ship the trophy to the winner. This person would then take a photograph of the trophy in their home and post it here. The trophy would change hands quite a bit, and it would interesting to see how many countries it might travel to over the course of a year. Shipping danmage would become a humorous part of the mix:D

@Domagoj

Yes, I still intend to give you the prize. It is what was promised, and I hate not following through on such things. I'll check on shipping charges, and if they are rediculously high then it will not make sense for you. I'll be in touch. ;)

@Wazza
Great runs - especially considering your computer problems and social schedule. ;)

@Chey
The "rally of europe" idea, great stuff! The rules would have to be worked out. Maybe a master savedata file created with only the car that is needed and limited cash so that all start with the same stuff. Repairs would be permitted but limited by the amount of cash available. This would make a great team event as well. It could be set up so that a different member of each team would run each leg of the tour and then pass along the savegame data to the next teammate. Only one run allowed. Maybe no repairs allowed. That could get funny.

What about this one. Once a week, maybe on wednesdays, we have a "speed round". The challenge gets posted at a specific time every week(or month, whatever), and racers have maybe 2 hours to post a replay. The winner gets to choose and post the next challenge.

Domagoj
05-28-2002, 01:13 PM
now you're just getting insane with that weekly and every 2 hours talk... :) Rally of Europe sounds good to me tho (stock)...and might as well make it harder like Chey said, with a car that's outclassed by all the AI cars...so you can't just start in front starting with the second race, on to the last - it'll be a battle to get past the AI without a hard knock, so it'll be sickeningly difficult - at least a 2-week time allotted for "relaxed pace", and still allowing for good competitiveness with not very continuous racing, and then if it were 1-week only, that would be hardcore...:D

I'm up for anything tho 8)~

Very cool, Domagoj! I know you're a match for any such challenge!

About your sig...

On the board here they use VB coding, which is a bit different from HTML which it seems you know your way with.

Your sig is:<img src = "http://www.fiese-scheitel.de/fiese-scheitel3.data/Komponenten/Titel/scheitel_logoFrank2.jpg"> </img>

to get it to work here you will want to use{img}http://www.fiese-scheitel.de/fiese-scheitel3.data/Komponenten/Titel/scheitel_logoFrank2.jpg{/img}on it, no quotes, no spaces, except replace the "{}" with "[]" (I used the {} so it would display the code without formatting the image!) and it will appear like this:

http://www.fiese-scheitel.de/fiese-scheitel3.data/Komponenten/Titel/scheitel_logoFrank2.jpg

Hey that is a picture of Frank Elsner some German Showmaster.
"fiese-scheitel" means something like "mean-hairpartings" if that isn't obvious enough ;)

And by the way I am also supporting that "rally of europe", but no repairs is one mean tightening of the rules. I did some rallys in my 62 Carrera and was battling for 2/3 place but never thought about the "no repair" rule.

Wow only five ppl posted replays, or am I wrong. Sorry I couldn't participate Kyzr I definately would have conditions permiting but my wheel is officially dead, but when I get a new one count on me to be present...

Chey the Rally of Europe is one of the most prestigeous cups in PU and thus a great great challenge for anyone especially with no repairs allowed...
