Dont know if this has been posted here before, but I thought I would pass this along to those having problems with PU and XP. I just noticed this at the windows update site in an application compatibility update:
http://www.m2mag.com/etc/winupdate_nfspu.gif
I havent tried it myself, but then again, pu never had any trouble with XP for me. Maybe this will help some of you with troubles...

It was posted a while ago by Matt. :)

After a reinstall, PU just wont work for me any longer... was working fine on XP previously, I suspect strange demons in my box. Anyways, I though I would give this a try but I couldn't find any drop down menu on any of the applicaton updates that involved Porshe Unleashed. Any possibility you could point me in the right direction?

Help, I need somebody, help, not just anybody,
help, you know I need someone, help.
When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's help in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down,
and I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
won't you please, please, help me.
And now my life has changed in oh so many ways,
my independence seems to vanish in the haze.
But every now and then I feel so insecure,
I know that I just need you like I've never done before.
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down,
and I do appreciate you being round.
Help me, get my feet back on the ground,
won't you please, please, help me.

Sorry mate I haven't a clue...

Still can't run PU, I reinstall and reinstall and always the same, I try to run the program and it just claims there was an error and falls back to my desktop. Never even starts to run.
I noticed that when I'm installing, it no longer asks for my cd key. Obviously something is up. Does this shed any light on a specific problem?
:help:
thx

Hi, budge!
Well, I would suggest that since it's not asking for data that it normally would under an install that it hasn't been fully "uninstalled". Maybe try the uninstall, then look for folders and/or registry entries that may still exist and exorcise them.
Some registry Keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\EACom]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Electronic Arts]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\App Paths\Porsche.exe]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\Need For Speed - Porsche Unleashed]

Doesnt XP have a sort of "roll back" feature to allow to go back to a previous working config on a previous date?

My hands were shaking... sweat beading on my forehead. Lurking in the undiscovered country, I explored the registry for any trace of the beast. HAAAALOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUU is there any ea in here?... no answer... deep breath. "Looks as if I'm doing this myself". Mouse in hand I ventured deeper and deeper... a series of wild guesses, (well not so wild as Chey pretty much outlined the problem straight up).
JACKPOT!!!! I Grabbed that renegade EA folder by the throat before it had a chance to scramble... as it kicked and screamed my finger graced the Right click. Screaming as I did "YOU MAY HAVE COST ME THE KYZR CHALLENGE". The folder looked at me kinda confused as if I was some sort of loony, wouldn't you?:) Like an iron fist my hand came crashing down on the delete commmand. Prompt: "Are you sure you would like to send ______to the recycle bin etc..." MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Suprised they didn't have a @#E@# yeah button. With one fell swoop I tossed the culprit into the toture bin.
Hey if you try hard enough you can make windows feel like a game as well :p
Wow I really ought to get a hold of myself. Always get a little worked up when I have to touch the registry, phew! Anyways it seems to have solved the problem only to create another one...
now that it prompts me for the cd key I realize I haven't a clue where the case is. I can assure you I've bought the game. I seem to remember that EA released one a while back. having a tough time finding it. Anybody? It may be well apparent that I'm going a little nuts over here, if any body can help I'd really appreciate it.
by the way Chey, thank you so for the registry tip. I suspect that was the problem all along. strange how it didn't uninstall though, don't ya think?

It's weird but I wasn't prompted for a CD key. I never had PU installed on this computer either so it wasn't stored. Good job too because he didn't have the box or manual or CD key. I hope someone can help you out with the CD key...
