justin,

i have a question about zmod. i know you use it and it mainly goes out to you, i have some blueprints of my car, and i'm really new to zmod and when i try to load them they don't show up. I resized the pictures to 512x512 in canvas resizer in psp cuz the pics weren't quite that big. and also do you out line the car with lines like a "cage" and then fill it in with the poly's .. geez,, i wanna learn zmod, i need some patience.

Are you trying to load the tracing image with the material editor? The material editor is the blue circle icon in the menu bar, and is for the mapping texture, not the tracing images.

Instead, you need to right click on the little icon in the upper left corner of the editing window you want the image to load in, and click on Load Image.

Also, Show Image will need to have a check mark beside it. Those are the two things I can think of that could cause that problem.

As for the actual process of making a car, once you've created the object (through the Create\Surfaces\Flat process) just use Create\Faces\Single to create the polys in the shape of the car, just like in CarCad except you don't have to manually place each vertice, it's all automatic.

One of these days, i'm going to make a ZM scratch building tutorial, I really didn't like the one that is on the ZM webpage, too much needless info in one bite, and seems to be geared at people familiar with complex modeling programs.

Thanks man,

that darn autoresizer thing in paint shop pro is stupid.how do you resize the blueprints? I can't get an image to load in zmodeler. i get a stupid error. Take a look.
btw - wouldn't creating a flat surface be all flat?Alright, little frustrated right now. so you load the image, then trace just the outside of the car to get a general idea of the car's shape, then fill it in?.. just so used to car cad, i don't know what i'm talking. Thankyou for helping me out, i know you have better things to do, so i thankyou for that. that's a good idea, you explain your tutorials fully and they are understandable. thankx again.

Hmm, i'm not sure about that problem, never seen it before. :( Just looking at the error message, i'd guess it's having a problem with that particular .dll file, you might try reinstalling ZM, or installing a different version. If none of that works, try posting on the ZModeler forum - http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~nfscheats/ubb/non-cgi/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum&f=17

Yes, a flat surface will start out flat, but you can make it 3d by switching to vertices mode and draging it sideways, like you would in CarCad.

The main reason for starting out with the Flat Surface tool is that it creates the object. As far as I know, there is no other way to create an object other than using one of the tools in the Create\Surface directory.

I usually make a flat surface off in some corner, then create a couple of polys using Create\Faces\Single, then delete the original polys made by the Flat Surface tool, that's quicker than trying to make the Flat Surface tool do what you want.

As for PSP, which version are you using?

well i'm sort of ashamed to tell you what i was doing. haha. I was clicking on replace texture instead of "add", then that error came up. I went ahead and installed the latest version that was on the site. I'm using psp 7. it has a auto resizer, it doesn't let you resize to what u need :(.. anyway, thankyou for that advice. gonna get into the racer scene i think, because i like a lot of poly's and detail. so i'm gonna try to export to .dof later and so on... i think i have a car in mind. a mazda protege mp3. I have a lot of pics i know that..

Thankyou,
cya
