Hey Guys,

I was wondering...I was racing the Lotus today and the Ferrari. Now one thing i noticed,I felt relaxed driving the Ferrari than the Lotus,And when i drove the Lotus i get real tensed..But somehow the Ferrari seemed more "Laid-Back" to drive..Although i did more practice laps with the Lotus, but really the Lotus makes me tensed somehow, lol. Is it me or has anyone else noticed this?I think i'm affraid of the car, hehehehe.

Yours,
Ashwin

hehe... Well I think part of it is that the lotus is very easy to step out and get squirly. :)

You hit it there Josh. The Lotus is one of the toughest cars in the game, and the Ferrari is probably one of the easiest to drive. Once you get the hang of it though, the lotus is faster overall than the ferrari, but still a bitch to drive. Like Josh said, the lotus is really easy to step out from under you where the ferrari is a little more stable and forgiving.

If you like driving tensed up, then drive the brabham...P.O.S.

I find the handling of the Lotus to be smooth and very easy to handle. It's just when you get back on the power when the problem arises. It's that damn powerful Ford Cosworth DFV causing the problem. It's got power oozing out all over the rev range and stepping on the throttle makes it way too easy to spinout. The Ferrari is also a very well balanced car. Very smooth, but the difference is that the Ferrari Flat 12 is much more "driveable," so to say. It delivers the power smoothly, unlike the abrupt Cosworth (I like to call it Punchy.. hehe)

The Brabham is just crazy. The Repco engine is similar to the Cosworth, just with less power. But the Brabham's handling itself feels squirrelly at times. Definitely not as smooth as the Lotus. But after a bit of practice, I found myself going just as fast as the Ferrari at Monaco with the Brabham.

Also worthy of note of the similarity between the Brabham and Lotus (not just the paintjob ;)) is that they weigh exactly the same (they're both tied for the lightest car in the game, tipping the scales at 1105 lbs dry weight (no fuel)).

When controlled properly, both the Brabham and Lotus can be extremely fast (especially the Lotus because of the extra power. It certainly helps on the faster tracks like Monza and Spa).

For overall power and ease to drive, I'd stick with the Ferrari. It's not quite as fast as a Lotus--when driven properly--but still very fast. I've outgrown my beloved Eagle. I've decided that the brakes suck on it ;) But it's handling is good and the engine feels a bit more driveable than the Cosworth it's based on (Weslake modified the DFV for more revs, hence the higher horsepower number.. but it does also feel more driveable, no?).

The worst handling car in the game? The BRM! lol. It's just not smooth at all. Trail-braking is a chore in this bugger. Maybe it's that the brakes are a bit too sensitive, I don't know, but then again, racing at Talladega with this thing still revealed it's snap-oversteer tendency. It's heavy, has a high center of gravity and that snap-oversteer is nasty. But on the plus side, it's got 6 gears and one hell of a potent motor (at least once you get it out of the low rev range.. it has absolutely no power down there). When you get the wheel spin right, this thing will out drag anything in the game :)

Hi Ashwin.

I find the Lotus to be very twitchy, but it suits my driving style. I prefer the Ferrari, but it seems to fight me more. I find that the suspension seems to load up and throw the car out on me. I'm not sure why I like the Ferrari so much because I am not very fast in it on most tracks. I can generally go faster in the Eagle and Lotus, but there is something about it that makes me want to drive it.

Err... when you're hovering in the 1:27's at Monza, the Lotus is not the smooth little baby you described Matt... ;)

Worst handler prize has to go to the Honda. The BRM is very stable once you set it up to contain its defects, simply because of its low torque which helps keep the rear-end in check when powering out of turns. The only thing in the Honda's favour has to be it's outright Horsepower at 11,000 rpm! It brakes like a scotch car, and has the weight transfer characteristics of a 3-legged Llama.

Hey All,

Thanks for the help,Looks like its true, than, hehe. And yes,i'm still afraid of the Lotus, lol.I think i need more practice with the car.

Dave:I think you like the Ferrari more, probably cause of that sound :D :D hehehe.

vXd:No chance,No Brabham for me,I think i'll grind my teeth too much after driving that car, heh.

Sting:Yes,The Honda has alot of Horsepower,but true,the brakes are awful ;) .

Thanks alot,now i know i'm normal,LOL,^_^ .

Later All,
Ashwin

LOL. The Honda at least seems smoother than the BRM to me... but it's just too damn heavy. I like your description of the brakes and weight transfer ;) heheh
