Yes, Dylan, you certainly can uncheck boxes.
Go to your Hotmail account using your browser at http://www.hotmail.com.
Enter your "Sign-In Name" and "Password"
Click "Options"
Click "Personal Profile"
Go to the bottom of the "Personal Profile" page
Uncheck all "Share my"... boxes.
Click "Update"
You're done.

Thanks for the info peeps :) They had switched on the 'allow' boxes. Buggers!
Cheyenne

Yes, Wazza, thanks very much for the info!
I passed that on to my clients' list! Very valuable stuff. AOL does that every year also, resets your privacy settings!
:guns: "So simple to use, no wonder it's #1!!!!!!"
Wazza, Hotmail servers go on and offline with ridiculous frequency. Did you know Hotmail is still a "Beta"? lol, kind of like NFS-Porsche. And like NFS-Porsche, full of bugs! :spit:

mmm... well im getting so many emails claiming i have signed up for something.. the most annoying one was when i tried to unsubscribe to something i never did subcribe too.. when i entered my email to remove myself as it said, it said there was no such email.... and then the next 2 days the same email came.. so i just blocked them.. now got maybe 20 different @something.com blocks... good how you can block a whole type...
before when i blocked some company, they reappeared with a new starting address... i dont know the technical names ;)
such as me: wazza6_6_6@hotmail.com .. hotmail.com is the domain? nah i really dont know... ^_^

I am unoticeable and don't get much e-mails from ads. The number 1 one i get is diplomas or debts but thats it, and that hardly happens. :D
So, my decision not to use Hotmail was the right one.. :)

Alex!Radic-AL: I am unoticeable and don't get much e-mails from ads. The number 1 one i get is diplomas or debts but thats it, and that hardly happens."Unnoticeable"? Lucky, maybe. I have a few wonderful, well-meaning friends who sign me up for every crackpot thing out there. "But, Chey, it's for a good cause!" "Chey, don't you want to win a car?" Combine that with some online shopping and I get some pretty weird email solicitations. But yes, diplomas and offers to fix my credit??? I'm a grad, my credit is great!? I guess it's just saturation mailing. &(
Chey: Sort of like that Readers Digest crap (maybe it's in America as well).. All those sweepstakes letters with the, you are one level away winning the prize..
I didn't reply to their letters.. (Maybe they got the message because of this). But, I wonder how the hell they got my personal details..

Ah, Reader's Digest? I haven't gotten a sweepstakes letter from them since, well, I guess I must have been 13 years old (probably got my name from some young women's magazine subscript list). What we do get here is "Publishers Clearing House", "You may have already won $10 million!", yadayada. If you subscribe to anymainstream publication you get on their list. ARGH! Still, periodically, you hear a story of someone who actually believed the "hype" on the envelope and went out and started spending like sailors, buying things they could in no way afford without the $10 million they "may" have already won. What were they 8)~ ?
man, what would I do without all the mails I get from sexymelissa21, bustyann23, naughtylinda32 and the like inviting me to their pay-websites.

Friends, you're all lucky to get so little spam volume on hotmail account...
I have set the junk filter to maximum security + delete junk immediately (otherwise the account gets blocked after a few days for about 5-700 messages of spam). It's because I use that account for all on-line registrations (including TotalNFS :D ), since about 7 years ago. But I fear it's also a hole through Hotmail's privacy system (if not a choice of them :( ), I don't receive any spam on my other 5 e-mail accounts...
I recently receive 100-150 junk messages per day that are not stopped by the filter... The filter seemed Ok until 2-3 months ago, maybe it's those checkboxes that allowed this unfiltered info to enter the mailbox
Let's see if it improves a bit after unchecking them.
PS: also be sure to uncheck the marks under "Member Directory" and "MSN Featured Offers", if you have some...

Shame on Micorsoft and Hotmail :nono: !!!
Not only they shared my private info without telling anything, as the article posted by wazza says, but for some stupid reason they also changed my junk mail settings, from "high protection" to "no filter"...

When I signed up for Hotmail I used all bogus information. As far as they know I am an 18 year old girl living in Sydney :-)
As I haven't used it in over a year it is probably clogged up - but I don't give a ****

You're right. I've nothing to hide in my personal data on the Hotmail account, that's why I don't care much about my privacy with using it...;)
By the way, I started using the hotmail account when internet was still a "baby" in the adv world, when banners and pop-ups didn't exist (yup, can you remember such a time?), when we were all happy to share our personal data to meet someone new in this (still) small virtual world. Having a new contact was an happy event, I used to save the address of each person who wrote to me, and "junk mail" was not an existing term...:) Good ol' times...;) I start feeling old :D
Now I get 1 important message per day (alerts from this forum and from another one) and then only tons of spam. It's 2-3 years I told to all my friends to use only my other addresses ;). But I'm still keeping the account alive, to be used for all registrations (and more spam ;))

Nah, it's deactivated most likely. Remember the 30 or so day rule by hotmail? No use = disabled account.
