About 6 months ago I lost everything on my pc!!!
It just shut down and told me that i need to reinstall windows 98 again.
And wouldn't let me do anything so i stuck in my norton antivirus floppy disc and it found a virus called (win.95.dropper)
I haven't been able to find any info about it,to figure out
where it might have come from.
Was curious if anyone has heard of this sort of virus?

Hi, Syko!
Dropper viruses are very common. They are most often infecting boot sectors, .exe and .com files. Sorry to hear you were hit by it. Symantec has pages on every virus their software reports. Not terribly informative, but here's the link to their W95.Dropper page (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/dyn/9626.html).
Just keep your virus definitions up to date, scan regularly, be careful about opening up any email with an attachment. If it's from a friend and you aren't specifically expecting an attachment from them, email them back asking about it before opening. Also, always resist opening an attachment from your email, if you really really want to open it, try and save it elsewhere first, then scan it, then open it.

Ack, sorry to hear that happen to you. :help: I must admit I never heard of this kind of virus, I guess I should count myself lucky that I never had to.
I agree with what Chey says, I have had situations before, where I emailed a friend of mine back to vereify if he really meant to send me that particular attachment. I didn't view it until he put me at ease. Especially since there are so many viruses that enter your address book and start massmailing from there.
On another note, that's a pretty stylish signature Logo. -^

Not good at all, none of 'em are.
Vet has a extremely large virus/Trojan encyclopedia but I think it is only for registered users. Sorry I can't help you there but I recall another Aussie here has it at their place of work. Either Dave (D_Man) or Mark (DC-Dogz).
If memory serves me well enough the pages were registered password protected but nothing a copy and paste of the info into this thread wouldn't solve. ;)

A Friend of mine had a hardware killer virus on one of his old systems, and it was (believe it or not) transfered by a CD ROM drive, to a old computer we had. The only way to get ride of the virus was to have low formating programs ( not many people still have these programs) to delete the virus.
The computers were too old to do much with so we threw them out.
My point: You wouldn't want to get that sort of virus via email.

mmm.. I just got this email again.. from aucklandguy20@hotmail.com
abviously a local.. but its 151Kb.. and when I open it,
all it has is:
"This is a special good tool
I wish you would enjoy it. "
and there is no 151kb in size.. although, the PC seems to slow down at this point, as if its looking for something.. no link to any file.. so what is this?!!! virus?

"What is this?" Probably something you should have deleted instead of opening?

I get a half dozen viruses a day myself. If you can at all use web based email, that way they can't automatically infect you if you look at the emails. Be sure and turn off some of the windows scripting host things as they like to use those to activate themselves automatically from outlook and such...
Don't take this as gospel though, I'm no virus expert. :)
