I am planning on lowering my '02 civic this summer and have a dilemma about what type of suspension mod to perform. I am asking this in the editors forum b/c i know you guys the best, and I am "editing" my real car. :)

I am trying to get the best ride quality with the lowest drop possible. (i am hoping for 2 to 2.5 inch drop) I am looking at Ground Control Coilovers, but some people are telling me coilovers suck for ride quality and i should just get lowering springs. i put up a poll to gather all your opinions and reply with any suggestions you might have.

Thank you so much this'll really help.

This thread belongs in the Shop Talk forum, not Editors Forum. ;)

As for the shocks, I really wouldn't know. Just be warned that the lower you drop a car, the more screwed up the suspension geometry usually gets, which hurts handling.

My cousin had a '94 Civic that he dropped 2.5", which gave him so much negative camber in the back that it couldn't be adjusted back to manufacturers standards. He didn't keep the car long enough to find out, but i'd bet he wouldn't have gotten much life out of the rear tires with that amount of camber.

if you get lowered springs and dont change the dampers the the springs will fall out (probly just the rear) when you jack the car up, in australia, this is illegal and you will get defected for it. so change the springs and shocks. unless you plan on racing (which i assume you dont) dont bother getting coilovers

This is probably the one area in automotives that I honestly am not too hot with. What I DO know though is that as said above, swap not only springs, but most definately the shocks too. Also, don't cut any coils as some ham&eggers do, as this operation actually weakens your springs (sure it's low, but it's also mushy). If you don't care about a caddy-smooth ride, go stiff springs and a good set of stiff gas shocks. Another handling improvement comes with low profile tires. This may also be an option for you.
