Just in case any of you didn't see, the F1 2002 demo is out... there are a couple of mirrors up over at the High Gear forums: http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~hg/forums/forumdisplay.php?forumid=23

I'm going to give it a whirl now.

Well, I can't play yet because my new joystick is acting up. :'( One of my mates broke it I think (blame someone else always hehe). Some people don't seem to realise that it is a precision instrument and abuse it badly. I plan to take it back to the shop. Maybe I can fool the manager into replacing it. Some hope...

Well I tried it with my new stick and I think the cars handle much better than in F2001. very similar to F12001 in many respects maybe more an update than a 'new game'.

I decided to go for the Thrustmaster2 Top Gun. It means I lose Force feedback but I can live without it. I tried the stick out in Edge of Chaos too and I think I am now unbeatable, at least for the AI hehehehe. So many buttons and axis' I just smile and kill Government and corporate pilots at will. Joystick heaven is getting nearer.

Well. I thought I would take a break from killing and have a spin in F12001. Suddenly it feels a completely different game. I now see what a seperate axis does for control on corners! After getting used to the new joystick setup and realising that a left arm is there for a reason after all (throttle) I could not believe it. Recovering from a slip up is now a piece of cake. 2 hours later at Barcelona and I couldn't stop. I said that F12002 seemed easier with my quick few laps but now I am not so sure. I felt in complete control and span out only three or four times in 2 hours so the stick made the difference it seems. I used to feel 'on the edge' all the time and thought that was normal.

I'm so glad my old new joystick broke :)

Watch out world! Snail is back 8)~

Hey Rob, I use the Top Gun Afterburner II for playing IL2 :) I like it very much and you have so many buttons to play with :D

I took F1 2002 demo for a spin and quite liked it. The only problem is lack of immersion. It still feels kinda clinically detached. The improvemnents in the physics are very welcome and so are the flags hehe ;)

I may not get it yet though. I have been reading about GP4 and F1RC2 is due out in a few months. I might wait to see the verdict in relation to all 3 before I commit to one.

hey Dave:

I only really did four or five laps on 2002 and only in practice not a race so can't really judge yet. I have seen a video of GP4 and it looks very similar to F12001 graphically. I have seen some shocking reviews linked at high gear. I haven't heard anything about F1RC2 yet.

The rocking button on my thrustmaster does not seem to work :( I don't know if its broke or is a software fault. I am going to reinstall it later. I am having bad luck lately with controllers hehe. I need that rocking button (on the throttle) in EDGE for lateral thruster because sometimes reaching for the key board is too slow to avoid incoming missiles. In racing I don't need it. Does your rocker button work?

Rob, apparently only one rudder control will work at one time. If you use the rudder on the right-hand stick the switch on the left-hand stick doesn't work. I use the right-hand rudder as it seems more natural to me :)

I hope that clarifies it for you -^

Thanks for the pointer Dave. That must be it then. I will map that for lateral thrusters instead of rotation. At least it isn't broke :) I can just see the managers face if I had taken it back. Oh oh, Here comes trouble... ^_^

Markos it should be an exe file called F1_2002_WIP_DEMO.exe and be 55.107kb. If it is that size then maybe it just needs to be renamed as an exe? If not then you should download it from another server.

Now I am not so sure about that damn rocker button. It should at least show up in the windows gaming options test. But I get nada from it. I think I will take it back and annoy the manager anyway.

Rob I forgot to mention the rudder selection switch on the back of the controller. I don't think you can configure it for anything if it isn't the selcted rudder control :(
